I do too. but the orchestra made a mistake. i the show, it at 4:36 it segues into "Someone Else's Story" (a song written for the Broadway production and later added to other productions) "Nobody's Side" came later in the show, after "Terrace Duet"
@@disneydanny2 There are several versions of the story. You're correct if you're referring to the original script. Later versions changed the order of the songs, and "Someone Else's Story" is in some cases sung by Svetlana as her introduction in the second act, not Florence after the fight with Freddy.
I thought the line "I need a change of cast" was a really lazy rhyme, but now I remember that Freddie constantly describes the cold war politics with the press and the game as a show.
holy crap, as someone who’s been listening to the album nonstop, i wondered why “florence and molokov” contained no molokov, and how mountain duet was set up. the first three minutes of this video felt like a christmas present
I know- her fury in these scenes is like a shimmering rift in the air. You can almost see it coalescing around her as one character after another brings up Hungary to manipulate her at the worst possible moments, in the worst possible ways. . . but "Nobody's Side" was supposed to be the explosion when all of this reaches critical mass, and the normally superlative Idina Menzel somehow whiffs it.
Stop comparing everyone to another version. It sounds good by itself. Adam is not auto tuned at all. If you hear some of his other work you will see this is just how he sings which is amazing. Idina is good in this as well I don't see much of anything wrong with her performance. I thought she sang this song very well and I don't hear any nasally thing to her. She is a PHENOMENAL performer. If people would stop making comparisons they would see the beauty in this work instead of criticizing it. Think about how they made it their own and hear them without prejudice.
I don't know what everyone is hearing...they sound flawless. it's Adam Pascal and Idina Menzel for crying out loud. stop arguing over their tones and little flaws in sound quality and start appreciating their talent.
I was there and performing, Idina Josh and Adam had flew into London from the US and went straight into a dress/tech rehearsal at around 9am with everyone else, who they’d never met before , who had also only ever rehearsed in their own groups, dancers, the choir, featured singers and the UK based actors such as Clarke peters and David badella , including the orchestra, who had never even played together until that day…it was all put together in 8 hours held together by the the most amazing man and Conductor David…before we all went live and it was filmed, we didn’t even have time to rehearse the last 34 minutes….. so if you want to put anyone down….go ahead, but could you pull this off so professionally ?
@@user-tc7lb6rr4r It is a fantastic version with great performances, and even more impressive in light of this behind the scenes info. I absolutely love it.
I only found this a few days ago.. Yet I keep coming back to replay the whole concert. I think Idina sounds amazing!! This is my favourite song of the musical. I really love her version best.. I just wished tht I'd seen this live.. I've been to her concerts and I kno just how truly amazing she is.. I cnt wait for the next one!!
+mel emeny Really You just discovered CHESS a few months ago?? It's a MASTERPIECE! I have been to her concerts as well. 4 of them to be exact, so I know what you mean about how amazing she sounds. She is literally FLAWLESS!
Kudos to her for singing with a lethargic accompaniment! She was delivering. The conductor wasn't even paying attention to her lead though, sadly. I LOVE her acting and the fact that the lead in/backstory is presented here.
It was a great performance, but isn't it the singer's responsibility to keep in time with the orchestra? Conductor can't exactly force the orchestra to speed up/slown at will. Especially a big one like this.
@@Natasha-tu5qs It is the accompaniment's job to keep time with the singer or other soloist when one is featured and not part of the orchestra. The conductor absolutely can and should slow down or speed up the tempo based on the singer. Some conductors do have a god complex, though, and a very rigid personality that does not lend itself to such performances. I have accompanied many people and also sung solo and played in all kinds of bands. The "leader" is always the one who is soloing. There are limits, as soloists know. They can't make up their own tempo from one note to the next, but this is not a case like that. Hope that helps.
Corroborating @@Hakausu's notes. The easiest way to think about it is who is in front. Here the singers are in front; they're the lead and the conductor should follow suit.
Lol. I worked in a show with a conductor who threw his baton at the lead in the middle of his big number. The conductor glared at the singer and said my title is "music DIRECTOR! I don't care if you playing effing JESUS unless you have DIRECTOR in your contract FOLLOW ME!" And there were no more debates about tempo during the run of that show. Lol
I've been listening to the original recording since it came out, wore out 2 cassettes and a few cd sets now I have it on digital over a hundred times and still amazing 🤩
I love Chess ! This is my favourite piece of all between Florence and Molokov , I love the interaction and squabbling over the players - and then turning personal “and you call yourself a fellow Eastern European ?” Love that line. India is beautiful as Florence. I’m so sad that the versions of the soundtrack I have don’t include this interaction with Florence and Molokov ! The part that starts with “the game is greater than its players...” and ends with “and you call yourself a fellow Eastern European ?” Other versions have a piece entitled “Florence and “Molokov” but it’s entirely different lyrics and music. I know the musical has many versions even different endings , and some small things change like some have “thirty years in they’re the same “ is “twenty years on” in some. And some have added or missing parts - which mostly I can take or leave - but this part is my absolute favourite part / and I’ve never come across it on a soundtrack ! I’ve seen it on a video of a rehearsal of chess staring Julia Murney as Florence and couple of videos here , but does anyone know where to get hold of a soundtrack with this part on it ? Maybe just me but I can’t seem to find it on I tunes or anywhere ? The other song I can’t seem to find is “how many woman ?” I’m not sure if it’s that those are from older versions or if it’s from American versions vs others or what the differences are , really fascinating musical I love the music and lyrics , and Idina Menzel is just beautiful as Florence in this. I have a soundtrack that has Idina but it doesn’t have this piece on it -? Would love to find it If anyone knows where I can buy it , and love to find the soundtrack of one with Julia murney as Florence too !
There's so much left out of the soundtrack. The first three minutes of this video is Florence and Molovkov, yet on the soundtrack they start it at 2:54, which makes no sense at all.
Ok, so where is the first two minutes and 53 seconds of this video on the audio recording of this concert??? This is vital stuff to the plot and to have it missing is insane! Though I will say it is epic, I'm loving this!
Like BlazedHearts, I can't hear it either and I've been studying music and singing most my life. I've also listened to this soundtrack about 20 times (this song more like 40) in just the last couple months; I usually hone in one something like that by now, but I'm not hearing it.
@@drwoo6090 wauw that's kind of rude :p I have dyslexia, and english is not my first langues (i know that's spelled wrong but i dont know what the correct spelling is.) So my pc does not correct my faults during typing. It's all red bc it's not dutch.
Ana Strandquist I hear it too but that’s just cuz, for me at least, the melody/how she sings it for the first 45 seconds of her song sound just like “let it go”, the beginning of the song, but after that I just get lost in the song itself and her voice
Because we know what it's supposed to sound like AND they changed the lyrics AND they changed Scenes AND script. And in comparison it's not as good. On it's own, if it wasn't my favourite musical, and I didn't own the CD box set of the original cast, the chords and piano sheet music and see it Off Broadway during it's short run in the early 90s, I'd think it was a great performance. In comparison, I just want to cringe. Listen to the original, then see if what you think.
@@screamtoasigh9984 Regarding the lyrics, the show was written in Swedish. And just like ANY piece of vocal music when it is translated, there are usually more than one translation to choose from. Also, THIS is a concert. Concert. NOT the show, a concert version.
swarze oz No, the original version was created in 1984 by Tim Rice in English (music by Benny and Björn from the Swedish supergroup ABBA). It was later adapted into Swedish in 2002 with some modifications to the original script.

+Cody Fox Idina is simply amazing and i have seen her perform live 4 times and I am seeing her in If/Then next month. She is brilliant in everything she does.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I, for one, am just happy this is up. RICE (Andrew, Lloyd) wrote this during the Cold War. Given current events and idiot tRump> A few tweaks, and this could be relevant AGAIN!!!
Andrew Lloyd Webber has nothing to do with this musical. Chess was written by Tim Rice along with Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus from the pop rock supergroup ABBA. They composed all the songs for the show.
Haha, one of the tenors in the background is kinda wack. Also, is that live auto-tune in Adam's voice in some of the higher parts here? Or does he just have a really interesting tone? I wouldn't blame him, honestly--the part's written ridiculously high
His upper resonance is really clear and brighter than the rest. It loses its light rasp, but that's how his voice sounds in other.live performances too. Its not autotune
@@Keith_Petersen_Actor It is absolutely auto-tune. This is no slight on Adam, who is a very good singer, but he is blatantly obviously autotuned here, which is really disappointing.
Love Menzel singing #felloweasterneuropean - it makes a point to so many of us including #westernliberalallies ... And so much pay not to have #tantrums . #itsnotalackofwill #itsalackofskill
Yeah that's an autotune wobble - it's what happens when a singer lands in between two notes and the technology cannot figure out which pitch to "correct" it to.
I think they used a little bit of auto tune when editing the show for the DVD release in order to make the vocals more on point, but that’s not really disturbing.
@@kated442 I have no idea 😭 those that hate her are awful in the comments at times. I don’t get why. She minds her own business and she’s ones of the realest ones out there: and she can sing incredibly. They say she can’t. 🙄
@@_wickedlyqueer I'm trying to figure out what's going on in these comments (and the reviews on iTunes) and I'm guessing it's the "Disney princess tone" aspect of her voice rubs some people the wrong way? Like after a decade of hearing "Let it Go" coming out of toys and iPads some people react negatively to her I guess. (not me, I love her, just wondering what their problem is). Elaine Paige has a more mature sounding tone to be sure. Idina is kinda the opposite of her.
I never thought I'd say this, but this does not suit Idina at all. She's usually fucking fantastic in everything. This had no emotion, no edge and it was over sung.
Forget nasal singing - in every song, in nearly every single line, she rushes it. By the time she sings the last word of the line, she's almost a beat early. Ruins it for me. A lot of this musical is very percussive, the words need to punch with the drums and you can't do that if one sounds like an echo of the other. Shame because I really wanted to like this.
I’m not a fan of Idina, but i wondered why i found this so unsettling until i read this comment. You’re right about the lack of percussion in her delivery
I concur -- Idina is just pushing tempo too hard, well past the point of 'individual artistic interpretation.' She's not without talent, but this rendition doesn't showcase her favorably.
There's no autotune there, that's just what his voice sounds like? If they were using autotune, why would they leave the "DO THIS" in "why'd you have to do this to me?" so flat???
Man, if it wern't for that Rent Maureen sounding voice, it would sound good. Elaine Paige is the best. Other than that, the rest of the cast is real good. I really like Idina Menzel but this is kind of "not her style."
Didn't like the male lead voice - sorry, but Florence rocked! Wish I could have seen her instead of the seriously overrated Elaine Paige - sorry Elaine!
Oh dear, that Nobody's Side was... difficult. I really like Idina, but never mind "not one of her best", this was a bad performance. Too bad. Maybe if they'd had more rehearsal time, she'd have done well.
@@marytheresaburns4728 She really didn't, listen to the Elaine Paige version.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OtAMrPJg75o.html ... compared to that, this is unpleasant....she sounds like she should be in Disney movies with birds fluttering around her. It makes her sound like a vocal student in comparison... It doesn't help that they changed the script and the lyrics..
I wonder how this woman got this role. She screeches! Not a patch on Elaine, Judy, or Helen. Alexandra Burke was so much better. But the overall was brilliant.

These are the exact same lyrics that were sung at the West End in 1986. They differ from the concept album’s one because the album came out in 1984, before the show was even staged and the script still wasn’t in its final form. They had to change the lyrics a bit when the script was completed.
It's a pity that this otherwise perfect (and in my case the only one available) good video of Chess is completely ruined for me by Idina Menzel's super annoying performance.
