I finally started buying worms to re-seed the farm with. This is necessary due to losing so many worms to mistakes last year. I also set a goal for this summer that I hope to reach. I have a feeling this year on the worm farm will be much better and faster-moving than last year!

Try this, take a plastic 50 gallon drum cut length way ,and put a base bedding into them and feed and water /manage as you go. I know you will have better results . I did this way when I became obsessed with worms and grew 1 mason bin into a total 15+ bins. Now I had them in a 1 bay garage and they went thru hot temps and freezing too.did awesome. Would have been better if I had better feed and climate control. Good luck

You should also try to grow your own feed for them to save money

Do you sift your compost to have a fine grade product so the worms will eat it faster and produce castings faster? Yes it is good to have goals and I wish you well in achieving them

We do sometimes. But most of the feed we have now is stuff that was ran through a manure spreader and beat up enough that it's pretty small particles now. The chunkier drier stuff is usually sifted before using it for feed.

You don't have protection against moles and mice/rats and other predators, are you sure that puting more meat inside without protection from predators is a good idea?

There are quite a bit of nice around, unless I put straw or other covers on they tend to stay out of the worm beds. That is because the dogs get them, the little one even hunts them at night. The dogs are great mousers.

Dogs got to sleep at some time, why not use few other ways to keep predators out that ensure no predators access? Boxes etc?

True. It also helps that there are better places for the mice to acquire food nearby on the farm. I've found that when I cover the bed I have mice issue. Once uncovered they seem to stay away, I think it's too open for them to feel comfortable scavenging. I'm sure as I grow it will become a bigger issue. So far I've been lucky though.
