Aw I love this so much! Takes me home. I’m a kiwi living in the USA for the past 6 years. I grew up eating potatoe bake and want to make it for my babies now. Thanks so much for posting this!
I was thinking about the idea of making my scalloped potatoes with a white sauce so this is great. I don't have mustard so I will use tumeric for flavour. Thanks
I've added spinach or silverbeet sliced thinly on top of each layer for some greens. Also yummy. Have another recipe which includes cooked chicken and eggs added.
Thank you Sarah, Can I use bacon in the middle and butter instead of table spread? If I can do it could you roughly mention the amount of butter & flour for the size of the dish you used. Thanks again so much!
Yep definitely - I've never actually done it with butter myself but imagine the amounts would be very similar to what I did :) bacon is really yummy with it - I usually chop it small and sprinkle a bit on each layer if I'm doing that!
Damn surely your ballin with the installing heat pumps install thing going on? But yes anyway cheese is tasting a bit bland, but there was a 500g bag of already grated cheddar for 6 dollars, which in this day and age I think is not so bad. I'm out of touch with the price of things. A whisk is a bugger of a thing to clean unless you have a dishwasher that works.
We certainly had to save up for the heat pump - but with Clint in the industry of course we got it at a tradie discount and didn't have to pay for installation lol ... yeah our local Pak'n Save currently has cheese for $9.85 per 1kg block which is the cheapest I can find it these days - crazy prices at other places!
