Recipe for Yor's stew This stew is based on an Austrian goulash, which makes sense given the setting of the show! It's one of those dishes that each family/restaurant kinda has their own version of; it looks like Yor's mom's addition is some smoked sausage and the fried egg. The combo of paprika, marjoram, and caraway with the slight acid of the vinegar are very tasty and a touch unique! Take a ~3lb beef roast, such as a rib roast or chuck, and cut into 2 inch chunks. Lightly coat w salt and pepper, then brown on all sides in a dutch oven with a bit of oil. Remove, then put in two diced onions with a bit more oil and saute until golden brown. Add 2-3 tbsp of both tomato paste and sweet paprika, stir to fry briefly. Before the spices can burn, add the meat back in along with just enough water to cover. Then add a tablespoon or so of dried marjoram and a teaspoon of caraway seeds along with a dash of red wine vinegar. Cover and let simmer for about 3 hours, until beef is very tender. Check occasionally to see if it needs a stir or a bit more water so nothing burns. Add in sliced carrots, small peeled potatoes, and some sliced smoked sausage such as kielbasa, then simmer for about 15-20 minutes, when potatoes are fork tender. Add 2 tbsp sour cream. Taste and adjust seasoning, it may take more paprika or marjoram if too much aroma has boiled off. If it tastes a bit 'flat,' and there's already enough salt, try adding a small splash more vinegar. Top with a fried egg and a thinly sliced gherkin (sour pickle) and serve!
Replying to add - a lot of the non-spice ingredients you can just eyeball the quantity, add more carrot or sausage or whatever if it doesn't look like a good balance of ingredients. You might need to add more water to cover the sausage and veggies near the end; this is cooking not baking, use feeling! The resulting stew should be rich and hearty, not watery, but you need enough liquid to boil the ingredients in! Also, some might be a bit freaked out by the pickle, but give it a shot! Put a tiny piece on a good spoonful and go for it, it adds a great savory-sour pop to the bite.
@@Piotr_J93 you may be right! These cuisines do tend to blend together a lot, but it does look like the sour cream is more typical on the Hungarian side. Very similar, just add garlic and swap out the marjoram for bay. Also, Yor did have a bell pepper on the counter, which is more common in Hungary.
Loid has shown that he cares for Yor a couple times. In the family interview in episode 4, right before the teacher attempted to exit the world of the living by making Anya cry, Loid was telling himself that he shouldn't be getting angry at the attacks on Yor. Yor transforming into the Thorn Princess, Loid showing he is more deadly than mosquitos and the most elegant punch all out shined Loid's internal monologue.
Even I felt that they have hinted at Loid showing emotions multiple times before this episode. Even in the previous episode, when he thought that eventually he had to abandon his family, he still said to himself that he will look out for their well-being. That is very huge. We are talking about the world's best spy here and he has broken up with multiple women for many missions without a shred of emotion. The same guy thought that he should look out for these two even after the mission. I think it would be clear why Loid is so hell bent on his mission to safeguard peace, once they see his tragic flashback.
@@hari3556 yep , I mean the episode where the Fiona appears, she said "He is capable of not showing any emotions but yet he slips every one of it" that's just make everything different.
Yor is always been the one cooking for Yuri in most of his childhood. This is why Yuri has gotten used to her cooking regardless how bad the taste is 😭
FYI, stew vs soup: although they may start out the same, stews differ when you get to the braising or stewing stage where you cook at a low temperature until the solids become soft and the liquid thickens. Stew is called chowder when the liquid is dairy based.
im excited for season 2 and the MOVIE!!... lots of progression in the manga and i absolutely love how the animators add a little extra to certain scenes :) Spy Fam has been a much welcome addition to my watchlist and im glad theres more to come
The movie scenario is an original story and written by Endo sensei, the author of SxF! Can't wait for it! 😆And Yor's long episodes should be next year!
Knowing people's blood type is a common thing in the Japanese culture and actually leads people to find certain personality traits among those types. So knowing another's blood type can give a clue into their personality, or so its believed. :)
Yuri must be immortal or something to have survived both Yor's cooking and beatings for years. Stew is thicker than soup, which quite often is done by adding flour, but there are other things that can be used as well.
Egg on stew is GREAT! And if you do it right, you fry the egg in the stew just untill the yolk is semi-runny. Like magma. It is wonderful, and fits great with a stew with say, chick peas, some spicy kind of sausage and a tomato sauce and a sprinkling of veggies. Nom. Now I want stew.
Loid’s internal monologue has been consistently logical and unemotional. However, his actions have not always been so. Almost punching that teacher in admissions interview, unintentionally flirting with Yor in front of that old lady and in front of Yuri (wups!). In this episode, his thoughts were of parting ways once the mission was done, and drinking with Frankie as a friend. But he must have walked out on Yor and Anya in the park to do so. I think he was not just being a friend to Frankie, but drinking his own sorrows away. Loid is certainly not yet in love, but he will also be completely unaware of developing feelings because he is so used to being 100% in control (basically, he’s been a total s*** with women in the past for the sake of a mission). Having a child this time could also make a big difference.
Blood type thing is a huge deal in Asia. Everyone knows their own blood type, especially in Japan. When people meet new friends, their blood type will just naturally come up in their conversation or introduction. A lot of people are also selecting their friends based on their matching blood types.
*In East Asia Japanese and Korean especially, blood type is kinda like their version of astrology/sign where instead of your birth date, your blood type supposedly determine what kind of person you are and how compatible a person with another. And of course it's pseudoscience but still a fun thing to look at.
@@floatytrouty It's pseudo-science the way many people use it, but I kind of like how it ensures everyone knows their blood type they can proclaim in the event of an emergency and can get the right kind of blood in time.
@@theemperormoth5089 I’m AB- , I can donate blood to anyone. But, I also had jaundice as an infant so my blood still has to be treated before it can safely be given to someone.
@@emanymton713 AB can donate to A,B, and AB but can't donate to O's. AB is universal recipient tho meaning they AB's can accept blood from anyone, meanwhile O is universal Donor but can only receive from other O's.
@@floatytrouty AB- donors are the universal plasma and platelet donor, meaning any patient can receive their plasma and platelets.- Wikipedia I don’t know what to tell you other than every blood type can accept AB- blood.
At first watching it I was confused why would they try to redeem Camila. But it's great tho this episode adressing that she was actually insecure and a bit jealous of Yor this whole time.
Idk why watching this ep reaction makes me wish you two would react to Kaguya-sama: Love is War anime after you finish Spy X Family. I feel like you two will definitely enjoy that anime😄
Hi, first of all i'd like to say love the reaction and energy from the both of you. There is an anime i would love to see your reaction. Have heard of an anime called 86? its a anime with the main theme of war and racism i think. Although its in a semi mecha genre, but its not focus on big mecha fight like the gundam series. Its more focus on its story, insane character development and world building. There is a lot of foreshadowing and symbolism in this anime, not to mention the fantastic music. There are small fight here and there but it was short and straight to the point type and when there's a big fight, its a big epic fight. Its a roller coaster of emotion. It might be start alittle bit slow on the first 2 episode for the build up, but it pick up later in the season. Happy to see you react to it.🙉
Okay, so this intro works for someone! Because I immediately knew it's gonna be "But actually she was taking cooking classes". Albeit I thought it was some juicy beef that leaked. Maybe I saw too much anime and cut fingers in it, haha. Also, you can safely assume that all the cuts she had are from peeler, because she is masterful with the knife due to her line of work. Frankie knowing her blood type is both because stalker and because it's Japanese artwork, and as far as I know Blood Type is important in Japanese culture, with a role similar to western zodiac. Don't quote me on this though. Regarding this mess with the episodes... I once started anime from... episode from somewhere in the middle of season two. "Who the hell starts anime like that?! Why every anime watcher I know praised it so much?" was my most calm reaction then. Because someone who uploaded this particular episodes was not very nice or bright person.
Yuri grew up eating and vomiting Yor’s cooking. But, He’d never intentionally hurt her feelings. So of course anything she makes “ tastes great” to him.
19:06 If you didn't catch it, Dominic (her boyfriend) indicated in some of his dialog that Camilla's animosity toward Yor was at least partly due to insecurity on Camilla's part as she feels her looks are inferior to Yor's. She seems to have trouble taking compliments sincerely too. Basically self esteem issues hidden by a facade of confidence and mean behavior.
Y'all got jbaited lmaaao. I mean, it's obvious that the show is on the family friendly side of things... even though both are killers and Anya is... well, inocent.
As someone who is too familiar of the troupes and seen many anime, I have this downside effect of watching anime that I can somewhat interpret/predict what is happening in the anime I watch. That's why the intro of this episode is kinda not surprising for me but seeing your genuine reactions remind me of my earlier days of watching anime hahahaha ❤❤❤ I love both your reactions!!
The thing with Yuri's metabolism is you need to remember that he was cared for by Yor since they were kids. And since he had to eat her cooking for so long, his digestive system is basically geared to handle her food for a period of time, then... regurgitate. I don't know how the guy's still alive, but I am certain that Yuri's gut has the fortitude of a nuclear bunker. Also, fun fact: although she can't hold her alcohol for shit, Yor was actually physically conditioned by her assassin organisation, the Garden, to resist poisons.
Eggs are usually a staple recipe on anything in Japan. For example, ramen noodles can usually have a egg in it. So wouldn't surprise me if there's eggs on stew. Although, this is getting my creative juices flowing, I think this stew in the anime can be improved upon with a slight addition of sour cream mixed in with the stew and meatballs, and then a slight squeeze of Japanese Mayonnaise floating on top of the dish in an intricate shape. 😉
That intro caught me off gouard. I thought that Yor got a really hard to kill target and was told that something bad will happen to her family is she fails. Camila's redemption arc is briliant. And Loid having a drink with Franky, he is a good friend but the thing that he said to frranky may also suggets that he may slowly realize that he is also getting attached to Yor and Anya to and he knows he shouldn't.
Well that's odd...the comment I just put up got deleted. I'll repeat just for clarity as it is a thing. the Stew is a real life dish called 'Italian Stew with egg' if you google that you'll get the recipe for it.
The intro got me too lol and i'm gonna say again I thoroughly your reactions. I look forward to seeing the rest because there are exciting episodes to come.
Great stuff! If you guys want some amazing and wholesome romance I recommend My Dress Up Darling. Especially if you need some waifu competition for Yor.
