Chefchaouen. The blue pearl of Morocco. This charming mountainside city is best known for its striking blue walled houses, towering peaks of the Rif mountains, and a certain infamous plant grown in the fields of the surrounding area! In this video, myself and a team of fellow travellers from the hostel make our way from Chefchaouen to Akchour waterfalls, a 45 minute shared taxi ride away.
Now about Akchour.
This place is a fairytale on earth. One of the most stunning and unexpected places I have ever had the pleasure and privilege of visiting. From the second I arrived to the second I left my jaw was glued to the ground as I did my best to take in everything I saw. Incredible mountain views on the drive in followed by the aquamarine waters. Red and orange rock walls of the canyon, lush greenery of the trees with pink flowers dotting the landscape. All of this inside a canyon crossed over by the iconic “God’s Bridge”, a natural rock arch that looks like it was carved by God himself. While definitely not a “hidden gem”, I feel like Akchour is still underappreciated on the whole. No Morocco trip is complete without a visit to Chefchaouen and Akchour.
In my opinion, this city and the surrounding area need at least a week if not two to fully appreciate everything that it has to offer. One thing is for sure, I wish I had more time to check out the city itself, and I’m really sad to have had to cut my time there short. But rest assured, this is one destination I will definitely come back to!
