@@NYLI11 I'm sure she stopped when the job with USAG came up (right after Tom Forester left). She's part of the new lead (I think it's technical something or other)? I forget what the title exactly is.
No one's bars are as overscored as Nastia's. Her dismount was a 0.3 leg separation, 0.1 flexed feet, 0.5 squat (really a fall but whatever they counted it as her landing it), a 0.3 step, and honestly a body posture fault. Her dismount had a minimum of 1.2 in deductions alone. It's insane that she ever won medals with her dismount and especially that that routine got a 9.0 E score
@@johannas5622 The rule is the landing deduction specifically can't be more than 0.8 if they don't fall. Other deductions like flexed feet or separated legs can be added on
I love Nastia but I hate when they say the front flip to one leg was Nastia's original move and she came up with it on her own. It was done by a Romanian gymnast in the 2007 worlds during the team and BB finals.
@@airtonpaiva5389 Look up Steliana Nistor 2007 world championships beam finals. Nastia won those beam finals if I remember correctly. And after watching Nistor in those beam finals, Nastia went home and perfected that move and debuted it at the 2008 American Cup and told everyone that she came up with it all on her own 😳🤦♀️
@@coll4455It actually was called the Liukin but they stopped recognising that skill as a D skill in later codes. Instead of being a D skill, it would count as a C+A skill
I remember seeing pictures of her coming out in a wheelchair at the Karolyi camp, which suggests she got injured at camp right after trials. So many injuries in that horrid place, to think what these athletes must have gone through there.
I was at this competition and the recording does NOT do justice to how high Alicia flew on vault! I was stunned seeing it in person and even now, a decade and a half later, I remember being in total awe.
Watched the all-around women’s gymnastics today from 2024. They scored much much higher back in 2008. However, I thought Biles is completing routines that are much more difficult than back then. Did something change?
I wish someone would go thru all these old comps and delete all images, and every mention if the Karoyli's. I don't even live in the US and I want to erase them from my mind for all the damage they did to this sport
Disagree. Good or bad - they were a major influence on the outcomes during their years. Society learns little from erasing things - we need to acknowledge and grow. And we cannot acknowledge if we just delete it.
That would make very, very short videos as they were the ones responsible for gymnastics' rising popularity in the US. - they hit the ground running here in 1982. Mary Lou Retton was quoted as saying they (they gymnasts) always knew the Karolyis were incredibly tough on their girls in Romania BUT...they always won. That being said, without the Nassar incident I would guess they'd still be running things in the US today.
It's bs blaming them... Where were the parents, coaches was no one taking care of those girls or they expected head of USA wag to not only train and develop elite gymnasts but also build their self worth, get them through puberty, make sure they aren't ignorant and not be clueless if they get fingered 😂
I don't know for sure. Only because in 2012, Marta kept saying Kyla had the international look. I think it has to do with lines, specifically with the uneven bars.
