Yup. It's one of the best songs on the album, although as an opener it doesn't top Carrion Flowers from Abyss.

I would give it an 8. +Christian Conder I don't know what drugs you're smoking, but keep me the hell away from those. (Everything she's done since Apokalypsis has ranged from a strong 7 to a light 9 in my book.)

YUP. It's funny, when Abyss first came out, I adored it top-to-bottom day one, and I;ve stayed there ever since, but I didn't like Hiss Spun *quite* as much upon my first listen. I'm not sure why that is, because it's only gotten better by my own estimation with every relisten, to the point where I sometimes love it MORE than Abyss now.

Not all of them, imo. On some cuts like "Spun" his soloing brings too strong of a Queens vibe for my taste. Just doesn't mesh that well.

Vex is a chilling piece of music. Especially when Aaron Turner breaks in. Holy shit. I agree it should've been longer, though. That heaviness and intensity deserves at least a long instrumental outro. It's practically begging for it. It's a shame, really.

Got into Chelsea Wolfe all these years ago thanks to your review of Apokalypsis and she's never disappointed me since. Really liking this album, with a really soft spot for Twin Fawns. I also can't wait for your review of the new Protomartyr, it's grandiose !

I would say our reviews are similar. A few tracks I really liked but it wasn't as good as, 'Abyss." Though I think people who are more of the die hard variety will still enjoy this record.

This is Wolfe's first album where I think she sounds like part of a band rather than it seeming like Wolfe's voice was guiding and commanding the songs. Van Leeuwen and the drummer were so dynamic and prominent that this seems like a "band experiment" but under her own name. Uh, i mean GRR melon, giving this a light DAMN.

Sometimes I wish you could play even very short music clips to illustrate what you are saying. Could allow for interesting comparisons, more precise analysis. I guess there are legal constraints to this but maybe for clips under a certain duration it may be allowed? I don't know, that was just my two cents.

I didn't dig the opener at first much either. But the rest of the album made up for it, and then going back to it again and again the opener grew on me. That last track tho.

This band may not be in your wheel house for reviews, but I'd love to see a review of The Stories We Tell Ourselves by Nothing More. Love Chelsea Wolfe and have followed her since Apokolypsis came out and have been blown away by every album... but I agree, the songwriting just doesn't seem as strong. I'm hoping if I listen to it again I'll 'get it'

I think Infected Mushroom has a really cool sound, especially their Vicious Delicious album which is one of my favorite albums of all time. I'd be really interested to see what you think of it if you gave it a review, either way I'd highly recommond giving it a listen.
