Chemical dipping an Alfa Romeo 2000 spider! I’m getting this Alfa down to bare metal prior to its restoration. This is probably one of the rustiest cars I’ve ever dealt with. Let’s hope it makes it out of the tank!!!

Given that it's an Alfa, I was frankly quite surprised that it survived the power washer, let alone the acid dip 😆 Nice job.

I'm impressed on many levels... 1: it actually looked better in the end then I expected. 2: someone has to care about where this car is headed. 3: I'm glad you took on the project and showcased it. 4: I've seen similar and far worse in the woods in Kentucky and creeksides I'd hoped would have found this level of passion but usually you find bondo buggies at every corner. This one will likely get a true rejuvenation

That is going to be a labour of love to restore. I would doubt replacement floor and boot/trunk would be available so someone would be in for a serious fabrication exercise. You would also have to think everything they unbolted would have to be in equal condition. Another great video, thanks for creating and sharing.

A few people change their mind when they get what's left of the 'shell back. The prep by the owner wasn't encouraging- bits and pieces left on isn't the main issue, the lack of braces in the door apertures was very unwise..the only thing holding the car together was the rockers (sills), and they're not great. They're lucky the bloody thing didn't fold in half. I searched this channel for what i thought would be the rustiest car; i saw alfa spyder in the heading....and wasn't disappointed.

I liked this video, I always wanted to see how a car with a lot of corrosion looked after the metal had been treated, on this model I thought that when I was going to take it out of the bath, only the joker would come out hanging ... but for a restoration it is always more visible and faster to do the work. very good, until next time.

Just looked over a 1962 Alfa 2000 that was restored. And being a bodyman myself, someone didnt do a complete job of blocking lets say. Anyway, it was likely a polished turd because there were only a few thousand of them ever built 60 years ago, and it sold for $100k.

I totally agree. When you end up with something this bad it's disingenuous to call it a restoration when it's finished in my opinion. It's a rebuild. I watched a video of a Chevelle "restoration" where they had to replace both quarters, both fenders, inner fenders, both door skins, trunk lid, floor and trunk pans, both bumpers, hood replacement ,tail lights, all new reproduction interior including the gauge cluster and console not to mention the car did not have its original drive train. The only thing left that was original to the car besides the frame was the top and the firewall. In my book when 90% of the parts have to be replaced that's not a restoration. You haven't "restored" anything, just replaced everything. You may have the paperwork, fender tag, and Vin # that identifies the car to be an original Chevelle super sport, but almost all the parts that made it an original are gone. Just a pet peeves of mine. 😎 Great video as usual. Keep'em; comin'! 👍

Italian cars from that era were beautifully styled, great to drive and all that. But they rusted like nothing else 🤣, I am surprised that Alfa Romeo is not pure oxide if it was left outside for decades. Depends on the climatic region the vehicle was sitting, I live in Scotland which is similar to Oregon, so that Alfa sitting outside for 20 years would likely not even exist apart from axles engine, wheels and gearbox, the sheet metal would dislove. I have seen an old Fiat in a woodland here in Scotland that was abandoned in the 80's, it could only be identified from the engine block and valve cover with fiat written on it, the car remains were hard to see covered in moss and leaves and earth.

I have one of 1959 2000 I bought in 1989. It was good runner. I replaced the floors and then had the whole body media blasted (walnut, baking soda, and some fine glass bead) to the metal. Perfect surface for a perfect paint job. I don't understand why anyone would pressure wash and acid bath it. That won't get all the deep stuff off the metal.

Once the tires go flat and they sink into the mud up to the axles the whole lower half of the car disintegrates. If a car is worth saving (jury's still out on this one) it's common to weld some angle iron bracing into the door openings to prevent the rockers from buckling. They can fold like a wallet when they get this bad.

This car obviously sat in the dirt for years always looks like this when that happens. There is no way that car can effiently be repaired relative to market value, unless i missed something special about it. Maybee.... Nieghbor collected alphas and sold out to a guy in oklahoma, he made two trips up for the parts collection. One of his cats was very similair to this, if not the same. I was a kid and only saw it once. I believe referred to it as the spyder. That is a european term for vert, but may have been an alpha model too. Not sure. They are neat cars. Early use of aluminum and dohc.
