My girl (woman) CHER! She's been my idol since the 70's. I actually cried the first time I saw her live....front row too! (crossing my fingers this is the official video. You might like it :D ) HA! You did and you did :P The words you are looking for are "It's...it's CHER!" Performing at 71 (she's 74 now) she wore a slightly modified version of this same outfit. I don't remember what year I last saw her (last concert was cancelled that I had tkts for) she was wearing the modified version along with about a million other costume changes. I could give you MANY Cher recommendations :)

It started with Sonny and Cher in 1964 and continues today. There is only one Cher. Great song choice Sumer. Peace J ✌ ☮ 💕

Bob Mackie has been designing wardrobes for Cher since 1967. Some have not made the light of day, I am sure. I don't have a single complaint about the costumes he designed. Pushing the edge of society. Love it! 😍 Actually, I was more into some of her movies than some of her music. I really enjoyed these three: Moonstruck, Mask, Silkwood. I loved your reaction to seeing Cher on the ship! That's Cher!! Once you have seen her in that costume you can't un-see it.! Unless you can "turn back time", that is.

I remember when this came out...The Navy recruiting numbers, here in the good old USA, went way up. Cher and her band performing a concert for the ship's crew. The video was filmed in Los Angeles on Friday night, June 30, 1989, while the ship was stationed at the former Long Beach Naval Shipyard at Pier D

Considering some of the things I've seen in music today, she was pretty modest! Remember Bicycle Race by Queen? I think overall Cher gave a generation a big boost in their confidence to be different. Plus her voice is just memorable. Nobody mistakes someone else for Cher. She was always relateable. At the Kennedy Center Awards she was honored and Adam Lambert sang Believe. She cried and he got a standing ovation; that was monumental.

Great reaction HAP. I love this song. Your she’s on a ship with A bunch sailors and dressed like that! You can’t do that! 😂 of course she can she is Cher! And don’t you wish you were on board that ship that day? I agree with you if I could turn back time I wouldn’t change much . You Live and you learn. Apparently, this is a REAL ship and real sailors(bet, they LOVED every second, lol). When the US Navy saw the Video they Banned any other Videos on any navy-ship... no sense of humour, lol. And Cher always was the "screw anybody else's opinion" Type. Different Times indeed.

Your shock was very amusing, sorry to say that, but thank you for the laugh! 😁 Those sailors must have had time of their life! 😉Cher is a legend and does have a very distinctive, great voice, that is a fact. And she was always provocative and fearless. I also still hear this song on the radio quite often.

It was banned on MTV but then they decided to air it at 9pm and then as generations started singing half naked they allowed it back on again because that's nothing compared to how woman dress on stage now but Cher is the one who opened that door for a lot of women artist and she's the sweetest soul

Hap, keep in mind when this video came out it was always half naked women rolling around on cars with the men fully dressed. What she did was turn the table on that idea. Making herself the vixen and all the fully dressed men were digging her. Visually it's about having empowerment and using it. But the one thing that makes Cher an icon is that she's in the Guinness Book Of World Records for being the oldest female recording artists with the most #1 hit's. Ranging over each decade from 1965 - 2023.

Oh Cher goes back to the mid 60s. She out Turnered Tina Turner 😉 Her costumes (or lack there of) have always been legendary. 'Cher (born Cherilyn Sarkisian; May 20, 1946) is an American singer, actress and television personality. Often referred to by the media as the "Godess of Pop" she has been described as embodying female autonomy in a male-dominated industry. her six-decade-long career." Her father was Armenian and she ran into prejudice over that. 1965 Sonny & Cher number 1 charted U.K. and USA "I Got You Babe" "Gypsies,Tramps and Thieves" "Half Breed" and "Dark Lady" were all huge. She moved to Broadway in the 1980s and then to movies. "Moonstruck" and "Mask" were 2 of her biggest. She got the academy award for best actress for Moonstruck. She retired from touring in 2005 but did do 3 years at the Coliseum in Las Vegas following that. Then back to acting. Cher, Dolly Parton and Tina Turner they all ruled as the top female artists for decades in the USA. I am quite upset with her about autotune though. She was the first to use it in "Believe". They even called it the "Cher effect".

MTV went on the air Aug.1, 1981. The 1st video they banned was Queen's 1982 "Body Language." MTV banned at lot of vids between it & Cher's 1989 "If I Could Turn Back Time", which was initially banned, but later MTV decided to air it after 9pm.

I like the song. It’s a catchy tune. I don’t get the video. The sailors and ship-are they representing relationships/affairs in her past that maybe she’d change if she could turn back time? Regardless, her outfit is inappropriate for a music video and someone her age. IMO
