Sorry for the long video, I just had so much I wanted to say about this one! Cherish your memories and the people you love, because one day you might not remember them...... Sad but true, father time comes for us all. Loved seeing Frieren smile and chat with Voll-jii today and Sein get closer to meeting his Gorilla friend. P.S. more Stern moments in the episode if you pay attention to the montage scenes 🥰

This is a very personal comment. A few weeks ago, my grandpa passed away, and just a few weeks before that, one afternoon, he looked at me as if he was looking at a stranger and suddenly smiled as if he'd just realized he was looking at his granddaughter even if he had seemingly forgotten. He first showed signs of dementia when he was in his 60s and he died at 80. Even til his last day he never truly forgot any of us, even when he couldn't even remember what he had for breakfast. This episode resonated with me on a level I couldn't begin to describe, and told a really beautiful story in the first segment: about old man voll. When he tells frieren that he dreamt of his wife again, meaning he probably fully remembers her and what she was like "adequately ", as he would say, was very cathartic. This show will probably end up being up there with vinland saga s2 as one of the best animes I've ever watched.

Your comment resonates with me on a very deep level, I lost my grandma in april 2023 very unexpected after she fell and hit her head, she was fully active and in good health body and mind and only 76 but yeah ... so the whole storytelling in Frieren of losing people, treasuring memories and most importantly appreciating the time you have together while you're together, so yeah Frieren will be one of my favourites of all time. My deepest condolence to you and much much strength, a fellow viewer from germany

@@nujikolilac6806 I also understand how you feel. I lost my grandma last year after she fell and broke her femur, while struggling against cancer. She passed away at the respectable age of 95 and was, thankfully, almost perfectly healthy mentally, with little to no signs of memory loss of dementia due to old age. Even then, I basically broke down crying for a couple minutes during this episode, reminiscing about her. It's truly sad. But at the same time, at least we got to make good memories with our loved ones, that we'll be able to keep and treasure until our deathbeds as well. In the end, it's not an entirely bad thing. I like to think like Heiter as well: even if Heaven doesn't exist, I hope it does, no matter the god or religion. I hope the people I loved and cared about are there resting and being happy. ☺

One of the saddest parts of the episode was himmels expression when Voll talked about his wife (probably thinking about how frieren might end up the same if they get married)

Fern implied that "Baba-Frieren" would be very hazardous for your health. On a serious note Frieren's conversation with Kraft and a few other hints imply that she might actually be pretty young by elf standards even now.

She smiled alot in this video. That is thing I noticed most.

Yes, she did. I was surprised Freiren have a close friend other than the hero party.

14:26 she has superhuman memory for sure (remembers details from 1000 years ago) but also can forget little things like where she put the ring

Stern means star in German. It's a great ship name for Stark x Fern

If you notice the statue and the clothes that Kraft and the other person are wearing are similar to the Greek style of clothing during the flashback with Flamme. Also, I hope you'll eventually check out Black Clover since it's also in a Fantasy Setting.

Frieren has short term memory too. Like last episode she forgot where she put the ring Hemmil gave her.

Is the theme of this episode "memory"? I believe that memory was at the core of this episode, as feelings linger even after we have forgotten, and even after we are forgotten, new people emerge to take over our wills. In this sense, Himmel's activity to create statues of himself and his friends to share his memory with many people is deeply felt in many ways. 7:15 Unfortunately, Zach, like Stark, had his leg cleaved off by a sword. 13:37 Elf memory. This is a very interesting discussion. I don't think there was any mention of memory in the book, but Frieren's memory is considered to be quite good, as she can vividly recall the time when she was not interested in humans, Himmel's words and actions that she did not care about, and memories of her friends. I won't go into details because it would be a spoiler, but it may be that not only Frieren but also the elf race itself has a good memory, since the elves who will appear in the future are also described as having a detailed memory. Perhaps there is some kind of magic unique to the race that manages memories like an external hard disk and allows them to be accessed and recalled vividly. 15:57 Perhaps Voll suffers from mild dementia. Frieren in the past, if she had realized this, might have corrected her, saying that the Demon King had already been defeated. However, she has certainly changed with the loss of Himmel and her new journey. Although she has a destination in mind, the process of her journey, including the route she takes, is mainly a reliving of her journey with Himmel.

I've definitely been thinking Sein would leave them at some point soon. He did say he was only coming part way to find his friend and he's not in that part at the end where Frieren is standing with all of her party members. Btw, I know you said you don't like looking at PVs/Key visuals at the start of this, but have you seen anything for the Chainsaw Man movie?

Man it'd suck so much if Sein just pulls a Kraft after we've gotten all these episodes to get to know him. Just as he became an irreplaceable part of the squad too 🥺
