A pattern that originated on the Green River in Utah that has proven effective summer after summer. I love foam flies in the summer months. I typically fish this with floating line alone or with the addition of a dropper 5-8 feet below it. Sometimes you get a top water hit and other times it acts as an indicator. Tie it up in your favorite color combos and add the foam hot indicator to your liking.
The Materials:
Hook: Stealth hook D series 8
Thread: Semperfli Classic Waxed thread 12/0 red
Foam: Craft Store 2mm foam
Underbody: Natures Spirit Peacock herl long
Legs: Wapsi small round rubber
Glue: Wapsi Z-ment

Really like the peacock as a underneath base !! I have not tied too many of these, but where can you get one of the foam cutters ?? Please keep the videos coming, your pattern instruction is well done too !! I also like the red thread addition.

Thanks. J stockard fly tying or spawn fly fish have the Chernobyl cutter. As for thread thanks. I usually use red or purple with the peacock

Sven, great tie! I like the use of peacock to save on dry fly hackle. I have started using tippet rings and light mono line tied into the rear of my foam flies to make it easier to tie on a dropper. Send to be working well for me. Also, if you are tying a lot of foam flies, you may want to look into a Cricut cutting machine. I can cut hundreds of bodies in any size or shape I want in minutes. It is a huge time saver!

That’s a great idea. My wife has a cricut machine. This is brilliant. Also the dropper ring is brilliant. I always forget to add it or a mono loop but usually am fishing barbed so I just tie it off the bend of the hook and don’t worry about it coming off
