Hey, great channel and content. I'm not sure though if the GX-1 was modeled on organs- maybe in terms of appearance, yes it looks like a multi-manual organ. But the underlying subtractive synthesis tech developed by Yamaha. The way I see it is the Minimoog popularised the OSC-FILTER-ENV type architecture. Yamaha wanted to then develop the next step before anyone else- a flagship synth with groundbreaking technology. It really was the first practical polyphonic synth. Yamaha then made cheaper, more portable derivative synths using similar technology, the CS synths, the CS40,50,60 and the mighty CS80. The CS80 was really the end of that line. Sequential then took the technology lead with the Prophet 5 which was released around the same time as the CS80. But Yamaha were developing something truely revolutionary with their secret (at the time) FM project they developed from Stanford University research. FM s very difficult to make into a practical, functioning synth though, and the way Yamaha achieved this in the early 80s is truely amazing (synths such as the GS/1, GS2 and DX7 are digital, but the custom CPU basically parallel processes data in real time, there's no RAM used in the synthesis generation. There's a good video on RU-vid about this.
Listening to this nice voice and the way this synth/video is presented makes me feel like I'm watching some 80's television show. Quality content here!
I have quite a few analog VSTi plugins. Can't really say that this GX80 is tickling my fancy!!! I like the Cherry Elka-X (some of the factory presets are amazing) and I thought "Sines" was pretty unique. Your demo is one of the better RU-vid demo's that I've seen.
Not sure why anyone cares about the CS80 these days. It’s over hyped. Good for its time but sounds flat and bland compared to must cheap synths these days. Best kept for RU-vid channels 😂
