What's interesting is the difference between Gary's Rating and Magnus

Different eras.. Rating inflation... Had they been playing in the same era kasparov carlsen and fischers peak rating would've been more or less the same

this means Spassky, Tal, Botvinnik, Petrossian are less memorable than all these guys? :-/ I wonder if it wouldn't be more interesting to propose an elo system cutting back your achievements every year.

The aim of this list was "The top 100 players by rating". No one is taking away from these great theoreticians but this list was only the top 100 by rating.

Tigran Petrosyan had a peak FIDE rating of 2645 (in 1977) only. That's why he is not in the Top 100:-(

Imho, Kasparov is the best. Magnus even didn't want to defend his title last year. And of course Kasparov style was more aggressive, hard, complex and beutiful instead of Magnus accurate and careful play.

@@vitalykiselev3951 magnus is a legend right know and of all time, but, to say if he is the goat or not, we must wait until he retire and see the collection of all his achievements. it's not fair we judge him right know, for me, he is the still the world no 1 , and still the best even if he didn't retire yet.
