Thanks for putting up this video. I do have the same problem discussed with my radio and clock. I had been told by another person that the "brains" for the radio was just to the right of the accelerator - but I could not find it. Your video makes it easy for me to find and pull out this CDM box. Are replacement CDM boxes available in parts stores? (My vehicle is a 1993 GMC Sierra.)
Perfect. Just wanted the location of the 3 bolts & how it drops out before I stick my head under the dash. Saved me some time and a literal pain in the neck !
Had all the radio pieces out. Watched this video. Got to the part when he was talking about the system having 2 fuses. Sure as shit. My courtesy fuse blew. Wtf gm 🤣
I have a 92 Chevy. Control head and cassette/eq works. Clock, seek/scan, fast forward, reverse and eject all work. I checked all the fuses. Still no sound, no static nor distortion, nothing. Any ideas?
Thank you. You've no idea the amount of time I spent trying to find out not only what "CDM" means but you gave a clear explanation of what it actually does. You're the best!
hello I have a question I have a 1992 GMC Sierra with the same set up with the radio on it lights up clocks works radio channel works and the volume bars light up and will move up and down and when you adjust the fadder and frt to back it displays as well there is just no volume my best guess is the amp under the dash thanks David
You should do a video of how to install an aux to the c.d.m. I cant find any for 1989-1994 cdm. All videos are for newer radio or the pre 1987 cassettes.
@Factory Car Stereo Repair. Ours started where it almost acted like it had a short in it then we could hit the dashboard above the radio and it would come in great, but now everything powers on but no sound will come out of the speakers. :( Any suggestions where we should start on troubleshooting this issue? Thank you!!
I have problem with my 95 Chevy Beretta tape player. Radio works just fine, when I bought the car tape player worked too but after changing the car battery it started to sounds like "faded" with crackling sound when on high volume. Do You know what might be the problem?
So a stock radio system in a 1992 GMC does not have a separate amplifier? I pulled out the control head and cdm unit and replaced with a after market Jensen, powers up but no sound at any speakers.
I have a 93 gmc sierra with radio, cassette, equalizer, never had any trouble out of it until the other day when I had a bad ground on the battery. I was going down the highway when it started acting up with dash gauges going off and on, truck cutting off and on. I stopped repaired the ground, everything was ok accept the radio would not play anymore. All it would do is show time at 1:00, station at 98.1 volume about half way, can't change it. You can turn it off, but when you turn it back on it does the same. I have checked the fuses, all ok. I would like to repair it and keep it original. Do you have any suggestions? I would appreciate any suggestions to try. I have learned a lot watching your video. Thanks
No, never had a chance to really get into it. I am retired now so I am going to look at it again now or replace the whole thing. I would prefer to leave it stock if I could.@@Hammerjockeyrepair
Thanks for this video new subscriber. I have a 93 and when i removed the old stereo i noticed a lone white wire connected to the receiver. What do i do with that? Do i use it? or cap it off? Thank You!
@@mikewolfe789 I didnt. I ended up capping it off and only using the the negative and 2 12 volt wires from the stereo. I re wired the speakers and left it at that.
Thanks for the quick response! Anyhow question I have power going to the head unit from the cdm but no light on the eq any suggestions I know these are getting hard to come by now days do you know what wires power the eq so I can test it by it self?
@@mikewolfe789 in the book the graphic equalizer wires are purple, red/white, white, and gray. Since I didnt have the eq that might be why I didn't use it? Just speculating there but makes sense.
should the radio power up if I send 12volts to the red wire (ignition power).. and black,, ground wire. I have a 93 c1500 with the delco radio../ ? the reciever module is missing,, so in trying to find out if the radio is good so I can get another reciever
I replaced my Bose factory amp with a used amp from EBay for my 2005 GMC Sierra. Exact match it’s came with warranty bench tested. Installed and still no sound. Checked all fuses. Ok Do you have any ideas . Thanks Jim
what does a new cdm cost & where do you purchase 1 for a chevy silverado 1990 & do you think it's a good idea to get one from a recycling yard?(scrap yard)
It's hit or miss with Junk Yard, and most of them around me will not give you returns but credit for electronic parts. I picked up a working radio from a junk yard, however, the heat unit and equalizer didn't work.
My issue is that when my clock freezes and so does the radio, ill disconnect the battery cable and reconnect; everything works just fine until the next day, everything reverts back to being frozen.
My 92 was 1 of the 'Mark3 Conversion' upgraded trucks, so it has a cd changer behind the seat. Cd changer is in place but head unit & tape deck/eq are NOT (removed by PO?)! Will any head unit work as a replacement or will this require a specific model unit? Does this setup require a tape deck/eq or does the cd changer eliminate the option of a tape deck? Specific Tape deck/EQ? Does it need a Specific control module? I would like to have all 3 parts together and working.. though ill probably never use anything but radio.
Hey man. I just picked up my dream truck. 91 k3500 dually 454 with a muncie 4 speed. My volume up button is not working. Is there a way to disassemble the unit to clean the button contact? I'd really like to keep the factory style head unit but dont want to have to replace the whole thing. Thank you for reading. And please help.
Mine was working and speakers but some how now the wiper want work or power windows eaither but on the radio the clock pops up and that's it and no fuse blown and all grounds seem to be hooked up good? Jw if that is a cdm problem too that would cause all this?
hello I am French I have a delco radio like yours in the photo, it is blocked I cannot set the time, neither the volume nor the stations, would you have the unlocking solution thank you
I wonder if there's a way to have the clock head be used as a controller to control the aftermarket radio deck turn the channel vol preset and show the clock ...it be convenient so you don't have to lean over to adjust the radio in the middle of the dash
HELP!!...I just got a 93 cheyenne and the radio is bad, but on the wiring from the radio there is attached a white individual WHITE wire, i'm not sure what it goes too.. We pulled it from another truck but didnt look to see where it was pulled from. anyinfo would help. THanks
When I bought my 1994 1500 it had no radio..it was obvious there had been an after market stereo installed...i have bought a radio and an adapter ...but I can only find two of the trucks connectors - the third (which is apparently the power supply) I can't find....the two I CAN find are bound together and fit just fine in my adapter...am I just looking in the wrong place?
HI Factory Cr sterio repair. my Truck radio was fine. I restored the truck put it all back together. The radio works fine. But when I push the brakes the radio light goes out. I have had it all apart twice since checked every ground I could find and still can't solf the problem. Any experience like this before?
My 93 chevy Cheyennes radio stopped working while I was driving. If I restart the truck the radio comes on then makes a popping sound and stops working. Lol. Any ideas?
Yes electronic box in the dash is toast garbage history you can find replacements on eBay, I'm having all kinds of issuesI have replaced equipment and stillIt doesn't power on,,He said that it is a two fuse systemI jumped to the conclusion that I had another blown fuse , the first fuze that said radio did blow but there's no second Blown fuse in the fuse boxI 'm puzzled now😐😐😐
Very common problem it is toast there's no repair for that You can buy replacements on EBay Even my new replacement in cold cold weather wants to do that The previous one was doing that
I've owned a few used trucks in this age group and only one had a replacement stereo in it. I prefer the OEM stereos. I just picked up another one with a JVC aftermarket radio in the center of the dash. I hate it. Every time you touch it some new thing happens. But the Control head is there so I'm going to see if it works. Thanks for doing this video, now I know what I'm looking for and have a better understanding of what goes into this.
the buttons contacts need to be cleaned, sometimes just a shot of tuner cleaner will fix it. a way cool fix as you just spay and done. warning not all tuner cleaner is the same some eats plastic. do a test spot.
1993 model GMC.. I have no sound on the system everything works but no sound, was getting sound every once in awhile then it would go off.. Any idea what the problem could be?
Same issue here too. Ours started where it almost acted like it had a short in it then we could hit the dashboard above the radio and it would come in great, but now everything powers on but no sound will come out of the speakers. :( Have you had any luck finding your solution?
I just love it when I luck out and find a guy who knows what he's talking about . Thanks. I have been down under the dash in the area of the of the CDM and replacing Brake light and back up light switches and the radio minstrelsy quit working. I bet I find I may have pulled the plug out somehow. or the CDM in on the fritzes the clock is indeed stuck at 1:00 and nothing adjust. Thank you very much.
You do realize that at 5 minutes, forty seconds, the hiss dropped out of your video when you unplugged the antenna. I'm pretty sure the ring counter, if stuck at 1:00, and your receiver because of the hiss, are toast. I'd say, due to the labor cost of rebuilding, or the cost of manufacturing, a new one, it's time for a new system.
Hi am trying to install my oem 1988 sound system but somebody remove all the wires and am tryng to find out witch wires are speakers and feeders on my amplifier, could you help me please !
@@fernandogonzalez1394 The previous owner of the ambulance had disconnected the radio from the back. They didnt want the workers listening to the radio.
Some people would like to keep the OG equipment, though. Mine works fine after 28 years (cassette player included;) turns out the antenna cable had just come lose.
