Dude thank you, your the only one with a video that actually explains what actually needs to be done. Everyone glosses over this part and guess what, it’s one of the most important steps.
Thank you some much man I have been tiring to install my radio for 3 months looking on RU-vid and this is the one video that actually informed me about the radio not being the face controller cause I did the same thing where I just ripped it out and cut it and tried to wire it up like that
Right on the money man. I was at the point where I’m like where the hell are the wires. and my adapter plug has a spot for all three wires you saved me hours thank you.
thanks ... found all the replacement parts on Amazon and went to best buy after and they told me it was impossible. saved me a lot of time and headache
Best Buy is so full of crap. I use to do car stereo installs. One year I went down for a harness to install on a 03 Cavalier. They said I needed all this crap and route the stereo to the trunk. I laughed at them and did the install. Lady sold the car last year and said the stereo was perfect the entire time she had it.
i have a 1994 silverado and the stereo that u said u pulled out from under the dash isnt there. i found something i think will work in place of it in an LMC truck book but dont wanna order it if it isnt gonna its called a quad 4 amplifier and if i am understanding what it does. It should take the place of the stereo but im not entirely sure. just wanted to see if u knew anything that could help me with this when i bought the truck all the speakers where wired through an aftermarket amp that was connected to the radio but i wanna hook up some subs in the truck and need a new way to do so if i have to hook the speakers back up through and aftermarket amp.
I have the same problem but I can't focus on your instructions at the moment due to rage. I'm gonna drink a glass of wine and go listen to music and try again. Haha
Do you happen to know what the dimensions of the "real" stereo unit are? I was curious if it would be possible to fit a DSP in that space next to the steering column.
I should have watched this first. My front speakers quit working and I bought the "radio" that was just the control panel, so I solved no problems. I may get a full aftermarket.
We feel your pain, I've had the same truck for over 21 years, they sell replacement radio amplifiers on eBay and the head units also on eBay I have replaced mine more than once, sometimes it's better and easier to stay with the original equipment
I my electronics for vehicles form Crutchfield. It comes with wiring harness and also step by step how to replace your vehicle. Does anyone use Crutchfield?
This helped a lot, I thought the wiring harness didn't have anywhere to go because I thought the unit in the dash was the only radio, as I'm sure most people would.
I left my original head unit in place it looks much better than a hole to place trash another thing is if your dash is cracked buy a Dash Mat to cover it up also when I replaced the front speakers well the tweeters came up above the dash meaning one can't put the speaker grills but with the Dash Mat you could leave the grills off and use a much better speaker as I did.
can you just unplug the power wire and cassette deck wire and install and replace cassette deck with new radio ? or do you have to pull out the old radio for it to work ?
I'm about to install a factory system back in my 93 after the previous owner installed aftermarket stuff, but I'm having a really hard time understanding how o the speakers connect. From this video do you know which wires are for the speakers?
Just from memory as I use to install car stereos long ago. You want to look for a purple set, green set, grey set, and i want to say blue set. They will have either one color darker than the other or one (negative) will have a dashed line through it. I just did some installs a year ago and they were still using the same color system in my 05 blazer and 04 Silverado.
ok basically i removed the control unit couldnt find the radio under the dash, but was i supposed to cut the wire to the unit, i didnt cut it but rather pulled it out with the unit, cassette player was already removed before i purchased the truck, and the previous owner did a quick install and cut some the wires and spliced their own into two of the 3 plugs which looked silly to me so i undid them and taped them up for the time being, but when i pulled the radio control unit out the 3rd unspliced plug came with it, do i need that 3rd plug from the control unit or is there a plug im missing, also i only found 1 antenna wire but the tip where it connects into the new aftermarket stereo, so do i put the wires to the plugs back together and look for another plug and buy a replacement antenna or is there a replacement tip that i can buy? any help would be much appreciated, got a 88 1500 chevy not sure if their similar to gmc as far as wiring and stereos go.
chevy and gmc being both made from gm have the same wiring. Just get an antenna adapt that fits your stereo and splice it into the old antenna wire, no need to get an entire new antenna setup. Not all trucks came with a cassette player so it may have not had one so that may be why you are missing that wire. So with you already having the antenna wire all you need is to make sure you have the battery wire, acc (ignition wire), and speaker wires. Should be good to go.
Goofy nonsense, Thanks, I'm about to have to dig into one of these, saved me some pain in the ass im sure. Happen to have the part # of the Harness adapter?
You are welcome. Yeah there was a few vehicles like this that had the control until separate from the head unit and accessories units. So control unit near the clusters the head unit under the dash and the tape deck unit to the right of the main clusters. Just all over the place. It had been so long since I did a job like this that I was like WTF.
i have a 94 chevy 2500 its been 3 years without a frickin radio and i tried changing the stereo several times but the amp and everything else (video, online diagrams)don`t really help as i dont want to F up the wiring....i see the local auto zone carries the metra wiring harness and its says it fits my truck however i have 3 plugs just like i see left over from the extraction of the factory radio that plugged into the im guessing power amp....i dont think anyone has explained if all the wires are needed and if so do i need more adapter`s?
+jaz420kronz nevermind it fit the whole adapter with one plug....had to improvise for the dimmer which explained the 3rd wire....keep up what your doing it helped..
If you comment back youd save my life, i have my tapedeck cut ot and my control, and my radio under my steering wheel has a the wires from the control and tapedeck, but the top side has a set of two plugs i can pull out and then a thick black chord that runs from behind my glove compartment to the unit. I dont want to cut it not knowing whag it does. And the antenna chord on the bottom side has a white wire meshed in and running up under my dash and i donk know where it leads
Well that is true and not true at the same time. Radios have amps in them, so yea it has an amp but only because it is the radio. The other part is just the controller. Think of a steering wheel that has radio controls. The button set on the steering wheel would be the controller. To answer your question, it sounded much better. Whom ever had the truck before me put aftermarket 6x9s in it. The amp in the original radio did not have enough to push it very well. So now it is stronger and clearer.
thanks my radio hasn't worked in like 3 years hasn't worked properly in longer time its still got the factory radio. i found this kit and got it.www.ebay.com/itm/331107584775?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
IKR. that is why I made the video was for fools like us not to have to deal with all of it. Wish I helped you sooner. At least you know now in case you have to do it again later
Samantha Dutcher yes it is also an amp, but also the stereo. The tap deck and antenna feeds directly to it. What is on the facing of the dash panel is really just a controller. Think of that unit as the secondary controller on a steering wheel. If it was only an amp then the antenna and tap would feed into the controller which in that case would make it the stereo.
Hello friend, I am looking for a female cable for a radio tahoe truck 1994, you have an email to send photos and where you can indicate or guide me where to buy the cable kit online ...
LAMG VE you would just need the same harness I used for mine. Just go on Amazon and look up Tahoe 94 gm radio harness. You most likely will need a gm adaptor too.
+mazdarx7gx Actually should only take 30min to install. This video just shows that it is simple and I show why it is simple when you know where the hook ups are. No need for an installer. I use to be an installer.
Lol you took way to many parts off aha... lol I put the factory radio back in only took 15mins to it and I never done it before 😂..had the aftermarket one in it but remove it so The was no radio worth being stolen 😂
