As a mach1 HP owner I can say that I really appreciate this review. The most apples to apples comparison I've seen. Btw I've always thought that 1 and 2ss 1le cars were also awesome cars. Camaro and Mustang truly need each other for us the consumer to have the best version of our cars

You couldn't be more correct! I had a 2011 Nismo 370Z and when I got my 2015 1LE I couldn't believe how much better it handled and was so much more predictable and harder to get yourself in trouble. Put 40k miles on both, in fact I don't think I ever got real out of balance in the Camaro. Now I'm looking at a Mach 1 or some type of 1LE as long as it has the Tremec 6mt!!!!

I bought a 2SS 1LE last month. I considered the Mach-1, GT PP1, Supra 3.0 and Nissan Z. To me, the SS 1LE offers by far the best performance for the money in the new car market. I came from a Focus RS so I naturally wanted to stay with Ford, but I just couldn’t justify the additional cost of the Mach-1 vs the 1LE. With the performance options I wanted on the Mach-1, I was well over $65K. The Mustang is minimally $10K too expensive compared to the Camaro.

@GrimSRT8
@GrimSRT8 Год назад
@@maxwellsmart8730 sounds cool. It’s not what I was looking for though as I’m not really chasing big power- I just wanted a low-12 second car with the best handling possible for under $50K. No doubt the Mustang is a better daily driver, but I have another car to fill that role. My benchmark for power was basically matching or beating my old C5Z in acceleration. I thought the Focus RS I bought new back in 2017 would be close enough…it wasn’t. It just wasn’t a special enough car to be a weekend toy for me. It would be a fun daily driver, but I already have another car filling that role so I sold it. Not to mention if you want to get a halfway decent launch in the RS you had to beat the hell out of it, and that’s just not my style. So I guess in reality the 5-100 mph time is the key acceleration stat for me.

@@GrimSRT8 i just recently bought a GT with PP-1 and i regularly take it up to the mountains for spirited drives. I think this car is almost perfect except for one HUGE flaw, the MT82 manual trans. About 30% of the time i shift into 3rd while high in the rpms, it will not go in to the right gear or it will lock you out. Makes driving it hard scary and not enjoyable. Because of this im definitely considering trading it in for a SS1LE.

@@victorvaldovinos3475 yeah, I was really worried about going with a Getrag in the Mustang PP1. I figured if I went with the GT, I’d go with the A10. It’s why I was seriously considering the Mach-1, but I just couldn’t get past how expensive the Mach-1 got with the performance options. In the end I got the Camaro 2SS 1LE w/Tremec TR6060 6-speed and the PDR. I don’t know why Ford doesn’t charge slightly more and offer a Tremec in all of the GTs like Chevy does with the Camaro. I’m sure most people would be happy to pay $500 more, or whatever the cost is, to get the Tremec they put in the GT350 and Mach-1. Or maybe Ford wants to force manual fanatics into buying the Mach-1? I don’t really get it. 🤷‍♂️

I agree with your assessment on both these cars! I have had the privilege of owning a GT350 for two years with 5 track days, and been in a few SS1LE and ZL1 1LE on the track to compare. I have to say that the Camaro's chassis is just on another level of sophistication. Its downside is truly the engine, not in terms of capability but in terms of lacking emotion and reward for revving it out. The voodoo engine on the other hand completely makes the car. The violent sound and vibrations it makes all the way to red line really rewards the driver for pushing the car.

An honest assessment. I appreciate that. The MACH 1 put down a better lap time than even the mighty GT350R on C and D’s lightning lap and it was 3 seconds quicker than the Camaro. 3 seconds on a track is an eternity BTW… being the fastest track car and far more liveability as a daily driver. The MACH 1 is the discerners choice here
@vbadbee9123
@vbadbee9123 Год назад
I don't buy the lightning lap from c and d. I think there was other conditions that contributed to that but the fact that the mach 1 only got some stuff from the 350r and is down on power yet puts down faster track times.
@al151
@al151 Год назад
Weather, tires, road conditions plays a huge role on c&d lap times. There is no way a heavier underpowered Mach 1 putting down better times than its donor GT350R. Forget about a GT350R, we did not even see a Camaro ss 1le with the same tire same day comparison, and there is a huge reason for that. As for mach1 issues and having to go to the aftermarket to address them... this is exactly why I moved to GM for my performance/track cars. So my FORD/GM buys are almost identical in QTY. I really appreciate your assessment. You were more honest than the majority of YT Car reviewers when comparing the SS 1LE to any FIVE OH really… all media crowned the SS champ long ago and like sheep, they all pick the SS over the 5.0 each and every time, just like sheep. This MACH 1 has objectively caught up and even surpassed the SS in many facets. And yes, the MACH 1 was faster than the SS 1LE at VIR for the. C and D Lightning also by a whopping 3 seconds. It also beat the GT350R by 1/2 second and the Mustang PP2 by 2 seconds. That’s 1,2,3 mustangs ahead of the SS. 4 if you count the GT500 but that’s not fair. This MACH 1 deserves love by the media. It’s a phenomenal car and it’s proven to be faster on track than the SS in many examples. I spent a little money and added all the factory 1LE suspension, wheels and tires to my 2SS and it is a very capable car and more than any sane person would need on a twisty road. To me the Mach 1 was just too soft, every input was met with a delay then the car would respond. Turn the wheel and wait, hit the brakes and wait and the most annoying part was the way the Coyote makes power. Stab the throttle and guess what..... WAIT!! I'm just accustomed to the way the Camaro hits you with the torque down low. It's more fun to drive and a whole lot easier to throw around. I can always tell someone that doesn't own a Camaro as their firs comment is about the visibility. Cracks me up every time I hear it. When I bought my car back in 2017 I was ready for this horrific visibility and not being able to see anything. The moment I sat in the car i started wondering what everyone was referring to as I don't feel that way at all. Always Camaro in this generation. The reason is very simple because GM HAS THE ALPHA CHASSIS 2. It was far superior to Fords chassis by leaps and bounds. Fords best handling car was their GT350R and that chassis wasnt handling the Torque the Camaro puts out. Power for track can always be added in the future, BUT CAN THE ACTUAL CHASSIS HANDLE IT? Dont forget that GMs Alpha chassis is based on BMWs 3 series cars, BUT MUCH, MUCH BETTER. The Cadillac CT5 V Blackwing is literally one of the finest handling cars in the entire world for its category, and rides on that chassis as well. Ford doesn't have nothing like that. Ford WON the sales war this gen by a large margin, but they didnt have the top of the line sports car.

Owned a fiesta ST, 2016 BRZ, and then a 19 SS 1LE Camaro is in a completely different league from the other two cars. Other than visibility spoiling some of the fun….yes you get used to it, but you’re always guessing where the car is…..the car is nearly perfect. Shifter is amazing, brakes are insanely powerful, chassis is absurdly good, the steering is very precise and direct, and the exhaust is perfection. Loud when you hammer it, zero drone. Pops and bangs are cool but too much sometimes. It rides great and is a great car to just cruise in too. However….the 1LE’s limits are stupid high to the point I found the car almost boring for canyon drives. There’s no drama, it’s just super planted and you really have to be hauling ass for it to feel lively. (Way too fast for public roads). It doesn’t lose composure over bumps and always found myself reaching my personal limit well before the actual car’s limit. It’s slightly old super car fast and composed. So if you’re someone who enjoys feeling on edge in a car, you really will need to take it to a track. It’s an amazing car and made an awesome daily driver aside from running costs. (Gas, oil, tires etc) But as a street car….I just think it’s too much. I sold mine because I couldn’t stop driving it like an asshat on the street lol. You get used to power quickly and the car hides speed. I found myself many times entering a corner thinking “this might be sketch” and the car doesn’t even flinch. Especially coming from a BRZ which was easily upset by bumps and could be twitchy on rougher roads. I thought about “downgrading” to an ND Miata after I turo’d one in Hawaii for a week and enjoyed the hell out of it. But when I test drove the ND….the Camaro just did everything as good or better. Particularly clutch feel, shifter feel, and then just plain excitement. Miata needs an exhaust and the right roads to be fun. It’ll make the S2000 feel like a toy in a lot of aspects….but I think once you get over the honeymoon phase and wow factor of the performance of the Camaro, you might miss the approachability and low speed drama of the s2000. It’ll be a hell of a lot better of a car to daily. The seats are the best I’ve sat in, insanely comfortable. You’ll just need a lot of self control to own one. 50-60mph is lively in a Fiesta or BRZ on the right road. It’s 90 in the Camaro and it doesn’t take long to reach triple digits. Grass is always greener with cars. I enjoyed the hell out of the Camaro, it was the first car that wasn’t missing something. It’s nearly perfect out of the box….But…on a good road I had the most fun in the FIST. Slow car fast>fast car slow. V8s make you never want to go back to 4 cylinders….but then you’ll also miss being able to ring a car out without worrying about jail time.

Heck I traded in my 2021 C8 Z51 for a 2022 mach 1. The C8 lacked that visceral experience compared to the mach 1. The manual trans and that 7400 red line engine is just music to the ears. The DCT trans and the 6500 red line doesn’t have that visceral experience that the mach 1 has. Plus I put $23K back in my investments. Another factor was the problem lots of C8 owners are having with the DCT trans. Plus Ford has direct injection and port injection. GM only has direst injection and future carbon build up. Most manufacturers have gone with the dual injection route. Why GM hasn’t is a concern. They seem to think that the warranty will expire before the carbon issue build up is a problem. Big mistake in my book. That C8 needs a DOHC engine that will rev to 7500. Forget that Z06 because no engine at 5.5 size will last beyond 15,000 miles of constant 8500 red line. The Ford Voodoo engine at 5.2 has vibration issues over time. Lots of replacement engines and even a class action law suit about that engine.

But when I got back to the crowded lot at the dealership, manouvering it around felt horrible. I'm a pretty short dude, which I imagine didn't help. And since I was buying a daily, I just wasn't really willing to make that compromise. The Mustang is FAR better this way, and it was definitely on my radar, but unfortunately I could not find a nice GT for anywhere near my budget So I went for a 2015 Civic Si lol. K24 Babyyyy! Half the cylinders, half the power, definitely not as exciting as what I was cross shopping... but to be honest, 99% of the time it's enough.
