This e92 m3 is my wife’s car. She’s been tracking my 944 turbo, Sport Boxster for almost 20 years. She loves the M2 and certainly knows to handle this beast. For anyone interested in getting a GT350, please consider the gen 2 (2019 to 2020) versus gen 1 (2015 to 2018) reasons are oil consumption issues, and also gen 1 had handling pack (track pack) as optional, most if not all gen 2 came with handling pack (extra oil cooler, trans cooler, stiffer front springs, better brakes, gurney flap).
Actually, only the 2016 GT350 had the track pack with additional coolers as an option. 2017 and newer models had the additional coolers as standard regardless of options due to customer cars overheating on the track. This specific GT350 in the video had the convenience pack, with heated and cooled seats, same as mine.
Your wrong. The only year track pack and or tech pack was offered was 2015 2016. 2017 and uo had up have all track coolers. That was not an option. Gen 1 vs Gen 2 is internet hype with no facts. Just regurgitated info from internet..
I drove a 2013 M3 manual back to back with a 2018 GT350 in early 2021. I chose the Shelby because I thought it was well worth the $15k premium. 28k miles later I have no regrets.
For a long time my realistic goal car was an e92 m3. I love everything about high revving V8s connected to a manual, driving only the rear wheels. I was deadset on buying one when I could afford it... until the GT350 came out. The GT350 seemed to me like a modern e92 m3 and did everything the M3 did but better. I bought a 2017 GT350 in early 2021 and have absolutely no regrets. It always puts a smile on my face and the only car I would sell it for is a GT350R. I love both Ford and BMW in general but IMO Ford has finally caught up to the Germans, and now that most German cars have gone turbocharged, it's the Americans that remain making the craziest most thrilling cars in that price segment
Thanks for the great and proper car comparison review! E92 was my benchmark for proper drivers car and I want one back then. When I was looking for a new car in 2019, I was considering new M2, M3, M4, RS5 and AMG C63S. I test drove all these cars and they all very good. But all of them have numb, unresponsive stirring. By chance I went and test drove GT350. GT350 check all boxes for me. It's remind me E92 and this is why I purchased 2019 GT350. Not to mention the price of GT350 is a lot less than other competitors, especially with options(except M2). I have my GT350 since 2019 and the oil consumption is miniscule(half quart per 5K miles) all high performance engines consumes oil, it's norma just check oil level regularly. The car is very balanced, it goes where you want it to. Very fun to drive on the twisty road course.
My friend… this uploads frightens me. I have been talking at length about my adoration for both of these cars, and now I have the exact comparison I wanted. The only vehicles I’d consider worthy of replacing my AP2 within reasonable reach. Can’t live without 8,000 once you have it. Been watching you closely for a while, keep it up. You’re the best!
Go drive a GT350R its quite different and even more reactive. Ive been driving many modified E92 M3 did a few videos on my channel recently and I love those cars quite a bit but my Shelby GT350R is far more visceral and raw it all comes down to what you truly want in a car like this. Both cars are very special and no auto maker will ever produce anything like these again which keeps demand and values strong.
Had a 19' GT350 and then a 20' GT350R with the carbon fiber wheels and Resonator delete. Handles better but not too far from the normal 350. Exhaust is my fav part of these cars. Ford Performance did a great job with these Shelbys. This M3 is beautiful i must say and I loved the comparison vid. Great to see the Shelby get a nod from the european car enthusiasts.

I just started the video but this is a very very great idea for a comparison. The classic S65 E92 to the modern GT350. High revving V8s. Really I think they are the only 2 you can find without getting in to exotic prices. I've been a BMW guy for a while. I recently sold my E46 M3 and have had my M4 for a few years now. The E46 was my dream M until I bought it. Coming from turbo BMWs over the last 6 years, it was just not as fun as everyone who has never owned one says it is. Wasn't a fan of the induction or exhaust sound in stock form but didn't want to mess with any of it. E92 M3 is my next immediate purchase though. I've driven them and know how dead they are under 5k rpms but the sounds it makes, the extra rpms to play with and engagement I love. Still doesn't compare to the brutal TQ you get so quick in the turbo Ms but I understand that's not what the E92 or E46 M3 was about. I think the extra power in the E92 goes a long way in terms of engagement and usability though.

I’d love to have a manual M3 one day. Full carbon fibre intake system, nice exhaust to wake it up and sort out the rod bearings/throttle actuator issue and I could conceivably keep it for a long time. But I also want to experience other cars first so it’s a tricky one.
E92 M3 has been my dream car for years, and I finally bought one about 6 months ago. First performance car I’ve ever had, and first manual I’ve ever owned. I wouldn’t trade it for anything; the driving experience has been so much fun for me. I try to limit myself from driving it all the time to keep the mileage down, but it’s so hard lol the drive is an addicting experience. They’re starting to appreciate so you should get one soon!

@@Zygrene they're not old cars, they're still modern so it's easy to find clean ones with low miles. Any car over 25 years old is old and the E92 isn't there yet so the sooner you buy one the better
@@Zygrene I have a bmw m6 and a z4m and I am still wanting a bmw e92 m3. The e92 m3 induction sound has always hypnotized me. I like both of my bmws but I would probably sell the z4m to get a e92.
I have the same exhaust on my M3 and despite the weight savings and craftsmanship of the Akra, it’s just too tame. So much so that I can’t even hear my own car on track sometimes. Into the classifieds it goes..
Just an opinion: Thomas Holland and Throttle House used to be good. When he brought in the VERY funny James it moved TH to the next level. Now we can all agree TH is great! YOU need to find your James. Its time. You can do this
My biggest complaint when driving an E92 M3 was the shifter, one of the worst performance shifters i've experienced, great car otherwise, and much improved with a short throw gearbox
the m3 loves to drift which is why you always see crazy clips on social medias of e92 m3's sideways on the road. it's quite easy to control and really makes up for the extra weight of the car. love the gt350 but they're way too expensive and rare to be a good choice for most to actually get driving done in.
Both surprisingly similar cars in terms of what they are (ik, sounds kinda vague), High-Revving NA V8, 2+2, Front Engine, RWD, Manual High-Performance fun-to-drive (and listen) coupes. The only thing I don't agree with is that he said the gearing in the GT350 is short... I, personally at least, don't consider a 50mph first gear a shortly geared car. Anyone can enlighten me in the comments if I'm wrong.
Great comparison test of 2 excellent drivers' cars! Did the GT350's owner mention oil consumption? Car and Driver's long-term tester needed a quart every 2000 miles which is not something every enthusiast would be happy with.
it really depends car to car and how hard you're driving. All Voodoos consume oil to some degree but so long as it's within Ford's specs it shouldn't impact the engine life so long as the oil levels are being checked periodically and the level topped up as needed. It's also not uncommon for high revving, high strung motors to consume oil Mine consumes 1/4 quart ever 1000 kms (about 600 miles) which about lines up with your quoted number from C&D. It's not really a hassle unless I'm going for a very long drive at which point I just check the oil after stopping to eat and letting the car cool down
I own a 16 have 40000 on it street driven. I don't drive it really hard but it's seen the rev limiter and I've actually only added a quart once between oil changes. Guess I got lucky.

Wasn’t aware these cars were in the same price category but the e92 is two generations old from what BMW offers. Is the comparison solely because of the high reving v8s?
they aren't in the same price range...but they are similar cars... both Front engine, RWD, Manual, basically same weight, 2 door 4 seaters, V8 that rev past 8k...rare cars to find nowadays...the gt350 is about double the price of an e92m3...but it is obviously much newer and in better shape
Remember when all the GM fans said that the 1950's style single cam pushrod V8's were better than the quad cam 48 valve Ferrari V8's. Then the GT350 came out in 2015 and now those same people have conveniently and suddenly changed their opinions since the C8 Z06 launched (a car all GM buyers lust after). Almost like those same people have been stuck in the 1950's just like GM were until last year.
Pushrod V8s are just so much fun to build and they fit anywhere. I love a DOHC V8 but that's not fitting in a Miata. An LS can squeeze into pretty much anything.
@@ahoneyman I do get some people prefer basic when it comes to the ease of engine swaps (and cost). I prefer more advanced engines with higher levels of engineering going into them. My point was more about how two faced some of the Corvette gang have been where for decades and decades they swore LX and LS were the best engines ever made, then the split second GM catch up with all the other manufacturers and actually build an engine for the 21st century, all these LX and LS fanboys now want the C8 Z06 with its superior quad cam, 48 valve flat plane crank engine (which makes the LX and LS ones seem like relics from the dinosaur era).
@@johnmitchell2269 I just love the bounty of parts for GM pushrod V8s. Want a short stroke 8000 rpm LS the parts are out there. Want a 632 inch 900 hp n/a V8? Yep, the parts are out there. Honda's are fun to build too but rwd applications are very limited.
@@ahoneyman Honda don't do a V8 engine though. Will be interesting to see how many people with their C8 Z06 remove the engine and replace with a single cam pushrod. Cheap is cheap for a reason though. Quality costs money.
@@johnmitchell2269 An all aluminum quad cam 32V V8 in a Corvette isn't novel. They did it 30 years ago. Honda doesn't make V8s but they do make high revving 4 cylinders that can handle boost. That in a light chassis would be fun. Edit: 32V not 48V
im poretty torn because while the gt350 is better in every way and currently only a 10k increase from an e92 even in this market, the e92 sounds better to me and its cool becasue your not expecting that car to have a v8. You see a mustang and your not surprised at all when it has a v8. There is a pretty big fun facor to that and i just find mustangs to be THE single most generic sports car in the usa. So it sucks that my best option for a high revving v8 is one, but ah well, the e92 just doesn't have enough power, and i can wait for a turbo tunable car, these v8s are going away and i plan on getting one while i can. Also side note gt350 gearing is not short at all LMAO 1st gear is freakin 50mph

You gotta get an e92 with a proper sounding exhaust. That akro is so muted and overrated, you can’t hear anything. Also better tires because the way the rear kicks out is the exact same with the front. Better tires the steering feels miles better. Also a proper tune. Dinan is very conservative. I’ve driven a gt350 and the they just feel weird like the front is so loose like on a pendulum. Or like a horse and buggy where your just sitting in the back and the front is all over the place. Manual trans has a nicer shift knob feel but not as smooth and buttery as the m3. Drive an m3 with better tires, bomiz exhaust, kw coilovers, and gintani tune. It will be a completely different car.
Respect the GT350, great car, but M3 for me. Hands down. Why? 1. Exhaust note - quality (it can be made way louder that the car in this video if preferred). 2. Looks; much prefer the look of the e92 m3 than the slightly over stylized mustang. 3. History; much prefer the pedigree of M cars than pony cars, and the mustang stigma. Also, from seeing so many of the road (from airport rentals to GTs, they lose some of the appeal). For me all the above outweighs any cost of ownerships, slightly superior performance, parts availability, etc.
So the M3 wins since it's a 2009 , a much modern car shouldn't be compared to an older one , if it was , means the older one was either ahead of it's time or the newer one is not a good modern car .
As much as I love BMWs there's no comparison between them. Yeah you can probably get the BMW cheaper but it's better to get the car with those features already. The gt350r out the box is a track ready car already.
gt350 are double the price of the e92, gt350r are triple the price of an e92...personally i prefer the M3...it seems that the dynamics of it are more refined...as in you can slide it in a more controlled way
It's a decade difference between the two, obviously the mustang is going to be better. But they're closer than their age gap would suggest, which just shows how good the BMW was at the time.
Something must be off on the suspension, my E92 M3 is not tail happy at all. It is the most balanced BMW I have ever driven. At the track with the low torque you can mat this car and never lose the back end. Something sounds off.

But you also have to think about the American roads are very tough so the Mustangs in Chevys have to have tough suspension compared to the German cars I drove a brand new Mustang myself I'm a Mustang fan and let me tell you that baby is me I never drove an M3 but I know that they are more luxurious than a V8 sports car Power
A 2011 Mustang GT with a solid axle ran a nearly identical track time to the 11 M3. Randy Pobst drove both cars on same track. GT350 will destroy that M3 on the track.
Well its a new car so stock for stock it will be faster. If you spent the price delta between the two on suspension parts the M3 would win. With Cup 2 tires, MCS suspension, solid subframe mounts, camber plates and a good alignment the M3 holds its own against GT3's

@@JacesOwnWorld Like a miata, it's s not supposed to be fast. Could they both have another 50whp? Yes and I'd like that but they're light cars that are supposed to be driven smoothly. Fast cars can make up for a lack of driver skill but these 2 are very rewarding when you get it right.
I don’t know mustangs but why buy a gt350 over a 5.0? Makes no sense to me. Id get either a 5.0 or a gt500. Feel like you could tune a 5.0 to what a 350 is in a heartbeat
2013 BMW E92 M3 , 414hp 4 liter V8 , that's 103.5hp per liter , that's 51.75 hp per cylinder , weighs 3649lbs 2020 Shelby GT350 , 526hp 5.2 liter V8 , that's 101.1hp per liter , that's 65.75hp per cylinder , weighs 3805lbs I would say the BMW E92 M3 has better luxury features , and for its age it's very gorgeous also for the age tye performance your getting isn't bad

Looks like you have never driven a gt350. It beats the m3 on the track, on the street, or anywhere you want. But you are right, the gt350 is not on the same league as the m3 when it comes repairs and breakdowns. The M3 takes the trophy there hands down.

not many people buy the M3 for outright speed...it isn't very fast...it's pretty obvious people buying them for their engine,looks, sound and driving capability....why do you think you always see M3 badges, hoods and fenders on base 3 series...no one with an M3 is imitating a 335
very wrong, i’ve owned 2 s2000’s and currently own a e92. the e92 is everything the s2000 wants to be and more. the s2000 felt like it could kill me at any time meanwhile the m3 drives like it’s on rails
