My colleague Jil McIntosh constantly says modern pickup trucks are TFB, for "Too Friggin’ Big," and frankly I agree. Sure, you can go and buy any full-size pickup truck you desire in 4x4 trim with knobby tires, but you’ll find precious few real trails large enough to fit it! One row back from the front lines of model bloat is where today’s comparison begins.
Both our Jeep Gladiator and Chevy Colorado ZR2 are midsize 4x4 pickup trucks. Both have four doors, and short beds measuring roughly 5.5 feet. Both are represented in their most off-road-ready packages and both have 3.6L V6 engines. But they aren’t as similar as you might think.

I have a Mojave and love it. You want a Jeep buy a Jeep, you want a Chevy buy a Chevy.

I paid a lot less than you're saying, and my Mojave has leather seats and the 8 speed automatic. The only options it doesn't have are the cold weather package (I live in Texas), and the tow package (I have a Dodge RAM for towing). Also, like the new Ford Bronco, the ZR2 interior feels plasticky, while the Mojave feels solid. Jeep resale value is also a huge plus.

I traded my Colorado for the Gladiator and best thing I did, Gladiator is more fun and more off road capable.

I test drove both and preferred the gladiator. I think it's a nice riding truck. The Colorado just felt cheap and boring even though it looked better on paper. I test drove the sport s and the lt, not the high end ones. Ended up ordering a sport s with the willys package.

@@fiftyshadesofurban I guarantee you the colorado can will. I am jeep owner. But when it comes to icey water it can hurt the steering stabilizer so we have my buddies zr2 go first because it's protected.

I LOVE MY 2021 MOJAVE. I THINK I HAVE A BETTER OPTION PACKAGE THAN THE ONE SHOWN HERE AND STILL ONLY PAID 43,000 HERE IN THE STATES. THE CHEVY IS VERY NICE BUT I THINK MY MOJAVE IS MUCH MORE CAPABLE IN GOING WHERE I WANT TO GO.

They didn't give Jill the Bose option for sound in the ZR2? That was a glaring oversight. I guess I'll have to find someone with a Gladiator with Fox shocks cause when I traded in my JKU for my ZR2 the offroad ride quality shot up. Now you get a diesel bison edition ZR2 it will get just over 58k but at that point just about the whole underside is armored. I just leveled my front, 33" tires, and Bison skids from the transfer case back. MPG suffered but now I can go that bit further and handle more obstacles

I test drove a ZR2 and of course didn't get to take it off-road, but I was shocked at how nice it drove on-road with such capable off-road setup.

I got a 2021 Gladiator Mojave with an auto. You are going to pay extra for a convertible with any manufacturer. Mines also fully loaded with 35 inch Falcons added, without a lift. Great handling on and off road with those fox shocks.

Preface: Im a chevy guy but have owned only jeeps in later life. No issue at all about the facts here but im happy to say my jeeps have been very reliable through and past 300K miles. We can debate my luck but you cant debate the intangible missed on this (and many) other reviews. We dont wave because of the unreliability, or the archaic suspension or the arthritic inducing and forever lost soft top bolts. The wave is knowing the feeling of being topless/ doorless at 80mph - 2mph (both equally awesome speeds while stripped). Theyre missing the point then again, it was winter at that time... I will take the automatic transmission over the manual transmission on Glad due to a major flaw that it will explode due to heat. There is a recall on the transmission.

This stems from Driver abuse, I’ve owned both a 2018 JL Wrangler Sport 6 speed, and currently own a 2021 Gladiator Mojave 6 speed. Zero issues from both transmissions... people are simply riding the clutch and overheating the pressure plate. Jeep released a software fix that will limit power until the pressure plate cools down.

If I did a lot of off roading I would definitely get the Jeep. But I just don't. The Colorado seems nice but doesn't give me that wow feeling.

Do some research on the DSSV’s that come on the zr2. It’s technology that the jeep doesn’t have. Surprised they didn’t even mention it once, yet on the Jeep they went right into its fox shocks.

Who buys new vehicles? I picked up (pun intended) a '21 Mojave 6 weeks ago for $18K less than window sticker, and my sticker was loaded with most of the available options. It's my first Jeep, but I bought it because it's a convertible truck! You'll need a metal cutter to make that Chevy a convertible.

I drove that Colorado for 3 weeks. What a hunk of junk. When I got my Mojave, 3 months ago, I really know why I paid more. Toughness and luxury in one pickup truck. Sarge Green with light grey leather seats. Absolute head turner. Snow storms, it actually gets better. Towing my trailer at 7500lbs, no probs. And power on the high way?? I don't know what this guy is talking bout,.... its got power. It's no Hemi V8 but it's excellent power.

Jeeps are also more of a life style choice. Many vehicles that you can off-road on in the market. Why do people prefer one brand over the other? Its a life style. Going naked in a jeep is the best. Try that with your Chevy. I have a Gladiator that I just traded in my 2016 JKU for. It's a jeep thang.... gotta have one to understand. You may want to look at re-sale value as well as trade in...

I bought the 2021 ZR2 and opted for the glossy black wheels instead of those atrocious "phalic" stock wheels. The 2021 has the sweet front end "Bane" mask grill. It has everything I needed right off the dealer's lot. I'm looking forward to putting it to the test on some adventures this summer. Going to put a GoFastCamper on top also.

Only thing I dont like about either, no powered rear sliding window. Who the Hell makes a crew cab truck with a manual sliding rear window? No ones arm is that long. Which is why I bought a Tacoma

The ZR2 has a grab handle, the steering wheel. Point well taken, they need to address it. After raising my ZR2 it is a strain to get in. In stock form the ZR2 is very capable, modified with gears, tune and taller tires it's truly a beast.

Full disclosure. I has a 2002 Liberty and it's solid and paint still looks new with 130K. Only been on rough logging roads. I need to get som AT tires b4 real offroading. TBH, it drives almost as smooth as a Mercedes.

The Colorado according to consumer reports is the least reliable vehicle, the Jeep is the second most unreliable, I can’t believe the chevy is better on fuel, according to the epa, their test is mostly based on off road, although you have to love the Jeep, I would rather drive a cross over or a sports car as my daily driver and build an expedition vehicle for when I intend to explore, these new trucks are too expensive and poorly built, even Toyotas have issues.

You missed some key issues with these two vehicles. First, the gladiator is available with full time 4WD. AND is also available at only $45 with front and rear lockers. And has the lowest depreciation in the industry at only 30% after 5 years. To this comparison in the summer with the roof and doors off.....

So the ZR2 has independent front suspension but leaf springs in the back and the gladiator has a solid front axle🤔🤔I don’t know who to trust in these reviews, one channel says the gladiator has better suspension another channel says the ZR2 has better suspension. Very odd…

Jeep tears..... ZR2 can crawl and then run high speed desert terrain trophy truck style. ZR2 DSSV suspension is light years ahead. Jeep just puttering around looking for more rocks to crawl trying to see through the dust trail left by the ZR2. Lol 😆 put them to WORK how about towing haul TOOLS for work. Why do people get a truck just to drive and not for actually WORK using it . Go buy a refrigerator at a store load and drive it home or pick up some lumber or hey try using the buttons or nobs and push the button to unlock doors or roll up windows or use the radio with gloves on .

ZR2 has a lower cost, more power, better mileage, and handles like a dream. Love a solid front axle but that's a tough sell.

I picked up a new 2018 ZR2 a couple years ago for 37k out the door. While the Jeep might have a sway bar disconnect and solid front axle those are not worth the extra 20k the Jeep costs.

I owned both. I switched to the jeep Mohave.. Zr2 feels plastic cheap and has crap resale value and comes with a lot of problems. Go with jeep.

@@Lanse1984 yes they have bad resale value unfortunately. I sold my Tacoma trd offroad with manual transmission for more than what I paid new and bought a Rubicon Gladiator manual transmission with many options. I loved the Tacoma but am happier with the jeep due to front locking 🔒 diff stock rock rails metal bumper front camera and all oem 33s stock without needing a lift and more. Also holds value extremely well so that was a plus... not to mention removing the doors and roof.

Dear followers!! Don't let the beautiful pictures confuse you . Anyone who buys a new car from GENERAL Motors the chance you threw your money into the trash is very large. If you pay MSRP you simply are not looking hard enough, or negotiation skills suck! I purchased a new 2021 Gladiator Mojave for $41K, no where near the $60K range many of these reviewers quote.

It's not just a Jeep thing, the jeep Gladiator will out perform that truck off road. There are other videos to watch that are more detailed. If it doesn't have a solid axle then go for your more comfortable ride and better mileage. Too many City people are creeping into the off-road world, if you noticed the test that these two gave in this video, it was a road that even a Subaru could have gone on. Chevy does not look better - what it does look like is every truck in the industry for the past 10 years. 🇺🇸

gladiator is overpriced for what it is! Fox shocks cannot out run DSSV shocks period.
