I love & appreciate your Corvair content!! It takes me back to my Dads 61’ Lakewood & 65’ Monza coupe 4 speed. My first Corvair was a Monza coupe 4 speed .. a 65’ as well. Keep doing what you’re doing Ed!! Hello from Alexandria, VA USA 🇺🇸

Yes, the tire size affects the speedo accuracy as the cable goes to the front driver's side wheel. They are calibrated differently for those 65 to 69 model years. Put the quartz clock kit in the clock. They worked on a "points" system that when aged a little would weld themselves closed or would freeze open. You can tell when the secondaries open.

@@SlowCarFix I was 10 years old in 1966 & the Corvair Corsa has been 1 of my dream cars since I was that 10-year-old boy. 🙂 The ULTRA-Rare Yenko Corvair is on my list of favorites as well. Your choice of paint colors is stunning!!!! WITH ALL DUE RESPECT: PLEASE consider removing the chrome door edge guard. Honestly, it breaks-up the body line too severely. Without that "visually cutting" appearance, you'll see & appreciate the sexy contour of the body as the designers intended. I hope you will seriously consider my respectful suggestion. THANKS for creating & posting this video of your AWESOME restoration. Best regards, Ben

I see you have some early models. I had a total of 34 Corvairs with a '64 Greenbriar & a '64 Monza being the exceptions to second generation models. Now I'm wanting to get another one in my ripe old age. Preferably a "66 or later with the better gearbox.
@SlowCarFix
@SlowCarFix 11 месяцев назад
I've had about the same amount as you. Mid 30s, presently have 4. The 66 gear box being "better" is a matter of opinion. I personally prefer the 64/65 manual box, even though I own a 66. I find it much smoother shifting and they're all plenty robust enough for Corvair engines. Best of luck with your search for the next one. 👍

I would love to see your beautiful Corsa next to a 70's era BMW E9 Coupe 3.0 CS. To me the styling similarities are remarkable. But the Corvair was first by many years! So who stole from who? 😆
@SlowCarFix

I agree, very similar. But if you look at a 67 Camaro, 66 impala, and mostly a 66 Malibu, they're all really similar. A 66 Malibu is Aztec bronze looks like a bigger version of this car, especially with all the windows down. Just a gorgeous Era in my opinion. 50s, 60s, 70s, are fantastic.

Do you know about my friend Kyle's '67 Fitch Sprint Sedan? It was the last documented conversion Fitch Sprint and the only documented 4 door converted. He restored it, I helped a little, and it was amazing. He sold it on BAT to the UK, and it was in a very serious accident and is now lost. There is so much more to the story, but it's well documented on the interwebs.

What is the average selling price for the 1965or1966 Corsa? Did GM put AC on very many of the Cores models? Thanks
@SlowCarFix
@SlowCarFix Год назад
Price really depends on condition and location. Around here, it's not uncommon to pay 15-25k for a good Corsa. The market is ever changing. Not many had A/C from my understanding. However, there is aftermarket A/C available. Bring a trailer seems to be a spot where good, solid Corvairs have been trading lately. You could check that out for a better idea on price. Hope that helps

Do you have any advice for installing a dome lamp? My 65 Corsa's headliner was replaced a long time ago and I think the connections from the dome light are causing a short!
@SlowCarFix
@SlowCarFix 2 года назад
That doesn't sound great. Without seeing it, hard to tell what's going on. Did you check to see if it has power? Sometimes the plastic housing degrades and can cause the contacts that hold the bulb to not be secure.
@whototeru
@whototeru 2 года назад
@@SlowCarFix That's the thing. The harness is fine, but the headliner was installed by a P.O. with the wires just dangling up there. The car came to me after a lot of shady repairs and the bucket pf parts didn't have the dome light bade or lens. I have one on the way. The wires are in the right place right where the sheet metal that spans from the passenger's side B pillar to the driver's side widens to hold the base, just waiting to be attached to the base. As it sits now, the headlight switch glows like an element if it is turned all the way on! I just wanted to get an idea of how much I need to cut, so I don't make things worse.
@SlowCarFix
@SlowCarFix 2 года назад
@@whototeru That's interesting. I've never had one heat up like that. If it was my car, I'd be looking over the body service manual to see how it's supposed to be installed. It must be grounding on the roof, or the wire is damaged. Best of luck with the repair. Let me know what you find.
@whototeru
@whototeru 2 года назад
@@SlowCarFix To clarify, the wiring harness is intact, but the lamp leads are smashed between the headliner that was installed by a P.O. and the sheet metal that spans the roof and holds the wires. Every time the dome light which is turned on, the coil glows red like a heating element! Also, when I turn the key with the door open I pop a fuse. I think the wires are touching the sheet metal and causing a short. I have been repairing a lot of shady fixes as they present themselves and the bucket of parts that came with my car didn't have a base or lens, so I have one on the way. I just want to get an idea of how much to cut at the center point of the headliner to pull the wires through and attach the base with the two screws that hold the base. I just wanted to know if there was a tried and true technique for that so I don;t make things worse or unsightly.
@SlowCarFix
@SlowCarFix 2 года назад
@@whototeru Wait until you have the base. It's hard to help without looking at it. The contacts are held by the base, that is what will insulate them from ground.

Awesome car. I really want a late model corvair. Would you say corvairs are a good car for entry into the classic car hobby or just learning mechanics in general?
@SlowCarFix
@SlowCarFix 2 года назад
Absolutely. Huge parts availability, great club support world wide. Relatively affordable parts. Get the best example you can afford. Rust is your enemy. If you can find a local club and buy from a member, then you'll get a good one. 👍 They drive great, handle well and are pretty reliable once sorted.

Where do you live? Nowhere near mountain roads? Because the corvair was a performance car, if you compared it to everything else GM made with a European idea of what "performance" means... i.e. Maintaining speed not adding speed. It'd run circles around a beetle, while being much better looking and much more practical.
@SlowCarFix
@SlowCarFix 4 месяца назад
I live in Ontario Canada. Lots of twisty roads and variety of different driving roads. I've also driven Corvairs all over the states, to many conventions. I have a beetle as well, also not a performance car, in my opinion. I think that's the key part here, in my opinion. You have yours, I have mine, and it's okay that they're different.
