I re-installed a missing glow plug solenoid and replaced a faulty glow plug in this 1984 M1028. I also discuss the theory of how the glow plug wiring works in this vehicle. Its a little more complicated since these trucks have a hybrid 12/24 volt electrical system.
This video should apply to any M1008, M1009, M1028, or M1031 series vehicle. The M1010 ambulance would be a little different and I don't cover the M1010 in this video (since I don't have any experience with an M1010).
I also only cover "stock" wiring in this video. I don't get into what you need to do to bypass the resistor and convert to 12v.
For those interested, here is a fantastic manual on understanding the CUCV glow plug system:

This is where I found the correct wiring diagram, too.
Here's my discussion on the basics of solenoids:

*A note about advertisements in my videos*
I do not monetize my videos. That means that I do NOT place advertisements before, during, or after my videos. However, a recent change by RU-vid allows RU-vid to place advertisements with my videos. I do not support this change but don't have a way to opt out. I don't want ads before, during, or after my videos, but am powerless to stop it short of leaving RU-vid.

The best thing to do with the CUCV Glow Plug System is to upgrade it to the 1987 6.2L C&K glow plug system. It's a better system. It will readily integrate into the CUCV's 12V wiring.

Nice job on this video! My only concern would be that I would not mix glow plugs, go with all 13g's (recommended) if you have the entire original system, only go with 60g's if someone removed the glow plug card and installed a push button toggle system that cycles the glow plugs manually (this is not recommended!).

Need to really point out the temp sensor plays a hugr role in this. That is the main driver. Going over these wires and what they do will help people doing swaps where the vehicle getting the swap is missing the module and all the glow plug activation

There are 3 cards under the dash, 1 is for the glow plugs, what are the other two for?

I have an 83 K30 with glow plug issues, would your wiring diagram be accurate for my vehicle also?

Nope, the civilian trucks have a completely different glow plug system! I'm not that familiar with them other than I think they have a relay with an integrated controller (and of course, its all 12 volts).

Great video took me a long time to find it. I just purchased an 84D 10 blazer military has no batteries. I don’t know how to connect them I see you can give me a link to the wiring diagram for from the battery all the way through if you can send me one please I appreciate it. Thank you.

Take a look at all the information in these manuals. You should be able to find the blazer (I believe its called the M1009): www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/tms-for-the-cucv.77609/

What if wait light flashes for a while and then goes off?
@w8nwo
@w8nwo 2 года назад
That is the same as if the light stayed on solid and then went out. Just means the glow plugs are still heating and aren't warm enough for the engine to start. Some of the aftermarket control boards have an option to flash the wait light instead of it being on steady.

@@w8nwo I figured it out, it has an aftermarket upgraded board in it, thanks

I dont get fully how you check the glow plug solenoid, specifically the blue wire, you said you have it in your hand and a lead is grounded to the blue wire, you lost me there
@w8nwo

I connected a jumper wire to the blue lead. To activate the solenoid, I momentarily touched the other end of the jumper wire to bare metal on the truck.
