Travelled in a Tavera just 2 weeks ago and love it or hate it there's nothing that can come close to it in terms of sheer sitting capacity. It can carry 8-9 people and their luggage with ease.
We have all childhood summer vacation memories associated with this vehicle..This wasn't simply any random car..this was our Vanity Van.. Gone..but could never forget..
I was one among the comment section who asked for an episode of GBNF for Chevy. Glad that you guys have answered to our call..(missed a Cruze in this video) Being a Chevy Spark owner my vehicle is a 2009 LTZ model and still runs solid. The riding comfort is so smooth even after 14 years and a boon in the tight city traffic. I will still hold on to it for another 5 years. ❤️
You are one of my favourite car journalists Sirish, and whatever you are doing with the gone but not forgotten episode is simply great and brings back a lot of memories. I learned English by reading Overdrive books when I was a kid, and I remember the copy where you spoke about the forester. Don't stop doing what you do best. Eagerly waiting for the episode on Astra.
The last ride I did in Chevrolet Tavera was from my home town to Solapur for wedding ceremony in summer of 2018. Yes it's gone from market but still there in rental car market.
has this in my childhood .. ours was a tevera neo 2 with captain seats , huge leather chairs .. red dual tone with silver top end .. had it for 8 years and with 1.1 lakh km .. and then upgraded to the new innova in 2012
ISUZU CROSSWIND in the Philippines, same as TAVERA, they have 6 seaters but no 3rd row seating and also 10 seater versions as well (foldable side faced 3rd row seating) also 9 and 8 seaters. 8 seater version as Sportivo equipped with DVD player on car radios (JVC).
The Cruz and Aveo were amazing tho. My family owned a Spark buying which was a mistake. This was rectified by purchasing a 2011 VDi Maruti Ritz which is still a faithful second car to today. These videos are beautiful and bring back memories of my middle school days when I used to read Overdrive cover to cover, especially the last pages which contained all the car specs ❤ Ps: The diesel Ritz with a 1.3l unit makes about 73 bhp with 190 Nm of torque 😜
What is your opinion on Ritz build comparison with today's maruthi's line up ? 2- Refinement and performance of Ritz in comparison with today's 1.2NA ?
@@3rdclasstatamahindrabajajRE much better build quality. The current hatches of their lineups feel like toys to drive comparatively. This diesel engine lacks refinement but makes up for it with efficiency and torquey performance. Nearly 1.1 lakh kms on the odometer with rough driving and still going strong
The first ever car that i bought with my own money was the Chevrolet Spark. That was back in 2008. It was great little car and it served me well for 5 years, ~45k kms. It was the best looking car in the segment with a cute design and a nice, refined 1.0 liter engine. It also had a funky interior with the speedometer and telltale lights in the middle instead of behind the steering. I was really sad the day i sold it, after all it was my first car!
We had 2012 Chevrolet Tavera Neo 2 LT. My father bought it after his retirement from MSRTC. He used to rent it out as tourist vehicle. Actually we were out to buy Toyota Innova but my Dad wanted top variant of any vehicle we buy and Innova was little expensive for us so we settled for Tavera top variant. My dad put 11" Panasonic screen and Panasonic DVD Player in it. He had done trips like Mumbai - Velamkani, Mumbai - Bhopal, various trips to our native place in Kokan, Maharashtra. Sadly we lost my father in Nov-2012 so had to sell Tavera after 14-16 months of ownership. I was too young to have a car like Tavera so my mother didn't allowed me to keep it. Only issue we faced with Tavera back then was Suspension. It had very bumpy ride. If I get a chance to buy back our Tavera I'll definitely buy it.
You guys can't even imagine the smile on my face when I saw the image of Tavera Even before playing the video of Tavera Thanks a lot. It's one of my favorite cars on the drive list
I had a chevy Optra an absolute driving delight. Had it in our family for 14 years & drove it 230000km. 1.6 naturally aspirated engine was a gem. The Optra was way ahead of its time. I wish I could buy a brand new Optra. A lot better than the present cars available in its segment......SADLY GONE BUT CAN'T BE FORGOTTEN
I was a proud owner of Chevrolet spark, which, we replaced with a new i10 nios a few months ago. I have to accept the fact that the spark was indeed a better car to drive than the nios, especially when it comes to performance. The spark also felt well put together. It didn't rattle even after 13 years of ownership. The stability of the car was awesome even at 150kmph. The interior felt premium with the beige and black colour combination. Ironically, the plastics used in the spark were much better than the ones used in the nios. I think the GM korea products were much better than their rivals in india.
I second to that, was forced to sell my spark last year becoz of 15 year limit. It felt so planted stable even at high speed, and engine was so good, I miss that engine as now I have is non punchy tata Punch. Punch has its charms in terms of material and build quality, but spark was another beast
One of our family friend had a taxi tavera, it was supremely well maintained, countless trips and memories, it may not be a performer or something but we loved that thing like a family member
I visited Kashmir last year and those people have really kept all these Legends alive you will find Lot and lot of Tavera being used as Public Transport , not only tavera , Qualis and Tata sumo , also
The Renault Duster definitely deserves an episode in this series. Laden with the powerful yet frugal 1.5 K9K DCi, the Duster kicked-off the compact SUV segment in India. It was known for its exemplary ride quality which is still a benchmark, years after its demise. The AWD variant was a legendary, one-of-a-kind offering that no other manufacturer could match. Please, the Duster needs more love. Please make a story on this absolutely epic machine.
"Headlights will light up the moon". How does Sirish come up with this 😂😂😂. Once rented a Tavera for my brothers engagement luckily it took us to the place on time but when we were returning embarassingly stopped. Also remember my friends Tavera getting stolen. Was wondering what kind of safety it had
Chevrolet Aveo Uva 2007!! I own that car, it has a fantastic ride quality as well as engine refinement. 16 plus years and running like a gem. Please review that car, great fan of your channel
please do something on the diesel rocket of India, a.k.a. the, chevy CRUZE....we need something really enthusiastic and informative related to the cruze on RU-vid.
Wow!! These videos stoke so many memories. I was just starting college when the Opel Astra was launched and boy was she a looker, especially when compared to the Ford Escort. Then came the Corsa & its derivatives. And then the Opel badge changed to Chevy and things went into a tailspin for GM. Kind of sad if you look at what they started with, the Opel Astra. Lovely video. ❤
My Tavera has 350k kms on odo & still going strong. Ride & handling is not good but I got upto 17 kmph with 8 people on board. Wallet is happy so do I.
"Headlamps would be lighting up the moon", Haha, Sirish you are spot on with your verbal prowess, just love the way you review. On a side note, though these cars were not driver's machines, they had a taut personality to them that really pulls me to watch these endlessly even today.
We bought it in 2006 our first big car, learnt to drive in this. Had some good memories with this. It had great mileage but was very slow. Sold it off in 2012 as the body began to rust badly. It was reliable though
In Indonesia or the Philippines, the Chevy Taveras are modified into crazy. Some mods on the Taveras are so good, just like factory, and they huge fan followers and club meets. Jn South East like Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia every car model in every brand has huge fan following, club meets, race versions,
I never thought I'd actually enjoy a review of the Tavera!! We had one experience with a General Motors car - the Opel Astra. My Mom bought it. We actually really liked the ride of the car and in its time it felt very luxurious. Only thing was that when she took delivery of this luxury car - a few meters outside the dealership she discovered that the fuel tank was about to fall off. Oh and though she had paid for a Blaupunkt system it was delivered without it. All was well after my Mom published an article in the papers that covered her experience! HM, GM probably not the best JV idea!
As always, shirish has presented it very well. I think he is amongst the top 2 automobile presenters in India. Can we please have an episode on Ford Ikon 1.6 Nxt (the josh machine) Also a story of subaru, i had plans to purchase the Subaru STI when in the gulf, but changed plans after I realised that my license was for Automatic transmission 😂 Also, the showroom in abu dhabi badly needed a facelift, i think GMs has had a bad influence on them too (complacency)
There are many memories attached to Tavera.. as it was the most frequently used in commercial market in here in Odisha.. and still now Tavera is used in commercial and this reflects its reliability..
The cruze - briefly a segment leader, Spark - a solid no nonsense hatch and the Beat - a very funky hatch ahead of its time. Opel Corsa - the car of the millennium (remember the ad ?) Are you saving the good ones for another episode 😅
Man I think y’all dropped the ball in this one. EVO is all about the thrill of driving and the only Chevy that pulled the heartstrings of Indian enthusiasts was the Cruze. That’s the car to represent Chevy in GBNF.
When I was living in India, i had an experience of the Tavera..... when I was somewhat 5-6 years old, we went to Shimla, Kulu- Manali, we had booked a cab and it was a white Tavera, i dont know whether it was Neo, but yeah it was very very spacious, it also had captain chairs unfortunately i don't remember anything else but the driver whose name was Sunil and he gave me candy every day (a Parle MangoBite) and I use to eat it in the jumpseats and throw the wrappers somewhere below it,( I was too little and stupid to understand ;) ) But yeah, as you said, there wasn't anything special about this car, and maybe that's the reason I don't remember much about this car as it didnt captivate my attention. Also since or maybe that age, I was a car guy, and I was pretty much into cars....
My cousin brother had this car in late 2000s when I was a kid I have lots of memories with this car Recently purchased Creta 😊 but still miss those days
Us Indonesians loved this car dearly (known over here as Isuzu Panther, although for a short while, the Tavera was also sold with a 2.2 liter petrol engine from a Blazer, which baffled everyone because of its petrol engine). It's very cheap to run and tough as nails.
Our market (Philippines) had this as the Isuzu Crosswind and these were tough vehicles. These are noisy and basic but has low maintenance costs and can go on rough roads.
Last week i took my spark in Chevrolet service center, Patna Happy that they are still providing service 5 -6 years after leaving although not very fascinated by the service guy Would say becoz of the introduction of chinese cars they miserably failed in India
i still use a 2009 chevy spark it is not that reliable but the comfort that the car offer is awesome and the riding comfort is also great. It was best in its segment. still a proud owner
I have traveled hundreds of kilometers in the Tavera.. It had good AC, performance was fine, not very unreliable and had an overall robust feel. There were only 2 issues - Choppy ride due to leaf springs - Clattery Motor
I have started liking this. Rather gimic and business centric approach you guys are coming with different things which enthusiasts loves to see. We are fade up of biased and. Paid reviews ❤❤
Chevy has given Indian market some nice cars that were doing decent sales.. Spark Beat Tavera Cruze Aveo and Tavera. Also Captiva was decent SUV as well
Well I have a memory it was 26/08/2008, around 11:45 we had faced an accident in the 7 day old Tavera I lost my maternal uncle and from then the life changed a lot... I can't forget. It was the most horrible night and the most horrible ride
I love your videos sir, they were rewinding those golden days. I suggest you to create two videos on each of the legend cars named 1) Nissan Jonga used by Indian Army. 2) Tata Indica
Great review. The 2.5 Turbo Diesel was actually a Isuzu engine but assembled by Hindustan Motors. Hindustan Motors were also using the 2.0 Diesel and 1.8 Petrol which were also Isuzu designed engines.
The only japanese chevrolet apart from my most fav forester and trailblazer, the tavera! Or should i say the Isuzu Panther.......please do upload the video on the forester, its my most fav car ever sold in india 🔥🔥🔥
Stay tuned for the Opel Astra video. We do have a ford special gone but not forgotten video on the channel. You can watch it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ERpwP9p-fY4.html
