The EcoTec 2.2 in that Cobalt is the same exact engine I have in my 2005 Sunfire....it doesn't have an actual valved system. It's built into the head and a hose runs into the air intake box to ventilate the system as pressure builds up. It's normal for oil blow by to accumulate over time in the air intake.....this is why you need to take off the plastic diffuser box and clean it out along with the throttle body twice a year is good. The test he's doing is meaningless as that's not an actual open/close kind of valve.
I think you were actually just blowing air into the breather tube, not the pcv system. The breather tube should be wide open anyways as it receives air from your air filter box after the mass air flow sensor. Just an FYI.
You can delete the hose all together and get a small air filter that goes right there. I have the 08 cobalt with the ecotec. I got rid of the factory air filter box as well and put a cold air intake.
1-Bypass that nipple and plug that breather filter (Fits 3/8 inch to 1/2 inch (8-12mm) tubes) 2-&Try do magic like some modded air intake (Mine kinda did like something like hose that goes from throttle body through the original air filter with maf sensor homemade air intake mod) 3-Change O2 (both) and make sure the plugs are meat clean 4-Clean Your throttle Body(nice and beautiful) (Your kinda Bypassing it) (With won't go oil through the throttle body) (That EcoTec will run smoothly as long as air filter is clean as well)
i tried this and the air could go in, but it was coming back again. also my tube is filled with oil, and there's also oil in the throttle body. what could be causing this?
@@bradleyterry4082 the 2.2 ecotec does not have a PCV valve at all, the test he did in this video is for an engine that has one. This “breather hose” seems to be the workaround GM came up with for the lack of a PCV valve. My Saturn vue with the 2.2 got tons of white sludge in that breather tube to the point that it clogged, I believe from oil condensation. But I’m not entirely sure. These 2.2 ecotec engines have some weird quirks
@@CadgerChristmasLightShow So did cleaning the tube solve the problem for you? Mine is in the shop now and no one knows what to do about the blow-by coming out of the oil cap. Compression check was normal.
@@maxfowardspeed i have the same issue. I bought a oil catch can and hooked that up in the middle of the valve from the engine to the intake manifold. Clean it out every month or so and you should be set.
This does not make sense. I however do have a "PVC" related issue on the ecotec 2.2 that I am trying to diagnose. Does anyone have the proper way of checking this system?
There is no pcv valve. Think its just a plate in the valve cover. Pcv valve keeps oil from escaping into the intake system. I'm having a problem with my 2006 bucking on acceleration last time I had to clean the debree from the throttle body.
