We’ve suddenly stopped caring about “EV sports cars” as long as this Chevy V8 exists. Full coverage of the ZO6 right here: www.edmunds.com/car-news/2023-chevrolet-corvette-z06-has-a-flat-plane-crank-more-than-650-hp.html
I’d still choose the cross plane crank. That high revving dual overhead cam nonsense is only good on track. To me the best option is still the cross plane LT to in convertible form.
A comfortable ride??? This is almost a street legal race car! It shouldn't be comfortable at all. It will probably be very comfortable for a sports car, but that is the last thing you should expect from a machine like this.
The zo6 wont be that cumfy its the track car. The zr1 maybe. Tho i feel the e ray will be the best "Gt" version if 0-60 and power is your concern. Tho id take a base with tt over the e ray any day if i was planning to daily a c8.
@@thorandmoljnir i feel like chevy did a decent job with comfort. My uncle, who threw his hip out putting his leg over my busa, said it was very comfortable when he had an opportunity to go for a ride in one.
The bigger side vents on the Z06 makes a huge difference in the overall look of the car. And the Z06 lower facia looks swept backward instead of forward. Much more aggressive look. It looks incredible, IMO. And the sound? OMG
Stingray is a better bargain for me. Looks better actually, at least to me. More performance than 99% of the buyers can handle or ever use. I guess I think the Stingray is so perfect, that it can't be improved. Z06 is over the top, and maybe really better suited for track use or if rare, stored as a collector item.
Probably sound lame, but beyond a certain degree of power, I care about the appearance and comfort level more. So the Stingray would be my pick as well.
The Corvette doesn’t lose anything when you go up in trim level, it just gets better. The Z06 also has MRC 4.0 dampers, which means it’s ride quality will remain significantly versatile. The system shouldn’t necessarily *lose* any abilities in softness but I expect great gains in stiffness and maybe reaction time to put holes, imperfections on city roads, etc. on the Z06. But the Z06 didn’t just get a performance upgrade, it’s also more luxurious than the Stingray which again supports my point that it’s just a better Stingray and didn’t necessarily “lose” anything. Just my $2.00.
I placed my deposit for the Z06 Sep 2020 before I actually knew the specs. I figured for $2K refundable deposit (I have dropped more than that in Vegas in one day) it was worth it. Considering the demand now, I am glad I did. My primary focus is getting back to running track events. My last track car was a custom C5R-427.
2020 Stingray start-up ---- Okay, that is respectable, won't get me in trouble with the neighbors too much I don't think. 2023 ZO6/ZO7 start-up ---- HOLY SHIT! WOW! DAMN! Rev it again DAMN!!!! Okay, my neighbors for fact would know that I was about to drive the ZO6 that day
I am going to have to say that I love that Z06. Even if it doesn't outperform in every category. Gonna have to say that the sound alone is kinda worth the wait.
Well you can always get the C8 ZR1. Personally the C8 Z06 will probably be more car than most average people can handle. I’ve been driving and racing Corvettes for 30 years and this car is a game changer. People like to dismiss that is a lowly Chevy but Corvette isn’t messing around anymore. There will be a lot of new racing records broken with this car.
@@craigthescott5074 I totally agree. Even if everyone is waiting for the 2023 to come out, I would dare say that almost all of those folks could just pick up a C8 and would be happy beyond belief. One may be sicker, but they are both sick.
A good crystal ball for the practicality of the new Z06 compared to the stingray would be to look at the C7 stingray versus the Z06 C7 where very little was lost in terms of practicality. The newer Corvettes are great grand touring cars as well as high-performing sports cars front engine or mid engine I like
@@EK-rr2md doesn't matter..... A vintage pack of Pokemon cards range from 300 bucks to a 1,000 depending on a set..... Technically overpriced for something that was 3 bucks in 1999.... doesn't stop people from buying..... Snap-on tools are way over priced especially when Stahlwille are better made and cheaper......... But snap-on is the luis vutton for men... Guys buy just for the name.....
The largest Corvette dealers are at MSRP, which is probably why they are the largest and why I am buying mine from one of them. Those who pay over MSRP IMHO are just too impatient to wait, so whatever they pay for that instant gratification is their choice, and the dealers reap the profits.
My Stingray on Launch Control can go 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds but the Flat Plan Crank 5.5 engine has a red line about 2,000 RPMs higher then the 6.2 LT2 engine.
C8 Z06 will be marked up 50K to almost 200K and dealerships are only getting about 1 a year. C8 stingray is about a year and a half to a 2 year wait. I was lucky enough to order my 2023 3LT Z51 early and received it within 6 months.
I love the look of the C8. It does make me wonder what the next gen will look like ( please don't pull a Camaro and give us the same car for two generations and tell us that they're different...).
Not sure what exactly you mean here. The 5th gen and 6th gen Camaros ARE fundamentally, and significantly different cars/platforms across the board. Not a single aspect is shared nor the same between them.
Something to note is that you can get the Z06 without the Z07 package. So you still get the high revving flat plane crank spitting out nearly 700 horses, without the stiff ride quality that you referenced. So while an absolutely maxed out Z06 with a carbon fiber wrapped Z07 package might leave you at $150k; you can still walk away with a Z06 sub $100k.
Z06 is still a super stiff ride and much stiffer than the stingray even without z07 package. And z06 starts at $106k so no you’re not walking away with it for less than 100
I don't see a lot of youtubers mentioning this (prob cuz it's not that necessary) but 345mm wide tires are not just simply wider tires than Stingray. The only wider tire on a road car is used by Bugatti Veyrons and Chirons which use 355mm tires, and nothing else. This Corvette Z06 tires have the same width with cars like Porsche 918 Spyder, Ferrari LaFerrari, Koenigseggs and more of these crazy cars. Of course the prices of these tires will be huge and it'd be pain in the ass to even find the right size, but I find this to be another fascinating features of the Z06. It's difficult for a Stingray to reach 0-60 under 3 seconds cuz it's rear wheel drive, tires are 305mm Michelin PS 4S, and it has 495hp. However, since Z06 has 670hp and 345mm CUP 2R, with the correct launch control system equipped, I think it'll be possible for Z06 to reach 0-60 in their claimed 2.6 seconds.
@@sammendoza7168To start the Tires size. I had C7 and the rear tire was 335 wide, I had constantly nails, screws and wire puncturing it. Also Z06’s engine as much as it is it’s selling point, also it is it’s drawback. There are already plenty of people with engine problems and this plank crank is simply unproven and far from perfect. Stingray’s V8 is a different story, plenty of proven history and cheap parts. If you go to track, Z06 no doubt! But as daily Stingray takes the cake.
I started my stock C8 Stingray next to a C8 Z06 and the Z06 owner liked the Stingray better 🤷🏻♂️. At high RPMs, no contest; but at startup, touring around, etc. it’s definitely about preferences.
The Stingray while not having the same interior carbon fiber package (a bit less than the Z06), it does in fact have an option for interior carbon fiber trim.
I wanted to order a c8 z06 but the wait (3 + years)and markup's are way too much. Just put my name on waitlist for c8 stingray, should get it within 10 months. Still excited to own a c8
A good crystal ball for the practicality of the new Z06 compared to the stingray would be to look at the C7 stingray versus the Z06 C7 where very little was lost in terms of practicality.
I noticed your cold tire pressure at 27 im at 33-34 cold what a difference its faster smoother and really i have not tried to go harder with more air. it said max is 51 pounds but when to soft car feel dragging and a little sluggish fast of course but with more air wow immediate difference. Ya I know tires might wear out sooner and all but try it first I might go harder
I’d like to see what the 6.2L corvette would do with a similar supercharger to what’s on the ZL1 Camaro just simply because it will provide similar horsepower to the z06 and a ton more torque.
Definitely could with a bigger supercharger like the one on the LT5 from the c7 zr1. The c8 zr1 is supposed to be the LT6 from the z06 but twin turbo, which should make up for the low torque. That car is going to be a monster and if the Zora rumors are true (zr1 + hybrid electric with 1000 bhp) that will be a landmark in car history.
I would love to see it up close and personal myself. I know that is not going to happen.Maybe Chevy will let me see it but I’m sure they won’t. I would love to purchase it.We shall see ✊
I have had a C6GS for several years now. I wanted a C7GS badly but the C8 mid engine rumors were circulating and I wasn't entirely comfortable spending the money at the time. I deeply regret waiting. The V8 mid engine manual transmission "discount exotic" of my dreams didn't come to fruition. I understand not pairing the high winding LT6 with a manual. Not offering it for the LT2, regardless of chassis engineering excuses GM offers, is inexcusable. I'm now in a position to buy what I want and there's nothing to buy.
Euro super cars better take notice. Corvette isn’t messing around. Your $300K super car isn’t that super anymore considering it costs 2 to 3 times the price of the Corvette for equal or less performance. The Z06 and ZR1 will be game changers. People like to dismiss the Corvette as a lowly Chevy but GM is out to set records with this car. And they are already doing it.
None of those manufacturers care and neither do their buyers. Someone buying a Ferrari or Lambo is not cross shopping a Chevy, they may however also add a Corvette to their collection.
@@EK-rr2md they may not be cross shopping but they will be crossing themselves when I blow their doors off in a Chevy. I own 4 Corvettes I can own pretty much any car within reason but I still won’t buy euro trash cars. I guess it’s just the principle. The Corvette has been Around since 1953 most other sports cars or super cars don’t have a linage that old. A lot have gone the way side. Corvette is still evolving. Porsche is boring, Ferrari’s McLaren’s Lambo’s are cool but way overpriced and not as reliable as the Corvette. My 2021 C8 first service including the transmission was $400. See how far that gets you in a Euro trash car.
I've done 0-60 in 2.7 many times repeatedly. It's a non-z51 with performance exhaust. They have an absolute turd of a stingray if the best they recorded was 3.4.
I wouldn’t say Z06 has a “bigger performance for the dollar”. The only place you will notice a difference is on a track not public roads. Ive owned a Stingray for 2 years and have played a little but haven’t gotten close to the limit of its performance. The Z06 is that much farther above what you’ll never use. Its a car for expressing “mine is bigger than yours” only. But to those who own one, enjoy.
Yeah keep dreaming. GM won’t even offer it in the ZL1 trim level. After all the money they poured into engineering a bespoke engine for the Z06, they’re not going to re-engineer it just to be able to stick it into their front-engined sports car. They wouldn’t be able to charge enough for it in a Camaro to turn a profit anyway.
@@RB-xv4si I doubt that GM is making big profits off the corvette either since most of the market doesn't want them. But they still make them. The camaro would likely get the lt5 for a potential z28
@@Lagann0 are you crazy? There are probably 3x or more people that want to purchase one than will get an allocation. It’s probably the most sought-after corvette (at least at initial release) ever. They’re making money. And the Camaro getting the LT5 would be no surprise. But that’s not the engine we’re talking about.
@@RB-xv4si GM is a big company that sells many other cars. Do you think most consumers want an impractical car like the Cornette compared to more practical vehicles like SUVs? There's many times more trucks and SUVs sold each year. People want the c8 because of the current hype. Same thing happened with the c7s where there was big hype and people buying them then few years later, corvettes were just sitting at dealerships. The dealerships are making the big profits from the c8 by making them up.
The Z06 actually has more torque than the Stingray. You have to include the gear ratio to get torque at the wheels which is what moves the car. The C8 Z06 has a much higher gear ratio and develops MUCH more torque at the wheels than the Stingray does.
IMO, the stingray looks more badass, but the z06 (too small for my taste) sounds really good. I hope there's a way to make the stingray sound like the z06.
Why complain about a Z07 package riding firm ? You do know they make a base version for people that think their sports car should ride like a Toyota Camry. I don't think I ever see you guys complain about a McLaren or Porsche GT3 being firm. Why complain about the Vette ? Hypocrisy at it's best.
Up until I learned of this new iteration I would have 100% been in agreement. Now I'm not so sure. Ferraris are inherently special, but this is also pretty darn special too and I think I'd at least have to drive both before rendering a decision.
Easy enough, Dario. Simply don't pay more than MSRP. I heard the same prior to ordering my 2020 C8, but actually paid under. Avoid dealers that gouge like the plague and don't buy ANYTHING from them, not even a keychain. Pretty simple.
I would not have liked the flat plane V8 on Corvettes up to the C7. But on the C8 I prefer it to the cross plane V8. Traditionally, the Corvette had: front engine, cross plane OHV V8, converter automatic transmission or manual. The C8 has rear engine and dual clutch transmission. If you break with tradition, you break: welcome DOHC flat plane V8!
It's funny when they talk about the weight of the wheels. The stock C8 wheels are very lite. To lose another 40 or 10lb per wheel is staggering. The wheel will have to be around 16 lbs.
We deliberately don't subtract the roll-out, as many publications do. Our intent is to achieve comparable real world figures rather than headline grabbing times.
@@alistairweaver1336 Even owners have achieved sub 3 sec 0-60 times and make then public. Z06 2.6 sec by GM i think its conservative i would not be surprised if it goes lower.
@@alistairweaver1336 when getting the 0- 60 mph time did you use the launch control? I was recently looking through consumer reports and the time zero to sixty was also 3.4 seconds. Consumer reports leaves the start at idle.
i'm so happy that the design that represents the height of american performance cars. the icon of american aspiration... looks like its straight out a 30 year old manga.
You're disregarding the 1/2/3lt packages.... Id imagine a 1lt bare bone Z06 starting at around 80k then you could probably build one to around 135k... and this is without the dealer "market adjustments" which will probably run you another 30k on top of that lol
Great 👌 review 👏 I would like to see your comparison against the Top of the line C8 6.2 liter. The C8 Z51 3LT... My C8 Z51 is a tiny bit closer to the C8 ZO6. I can do 0-60 in under 3 seconds. I still want a C8 ZO6!!!
Forgive my ignorance...Why did the Z06 backfire like that? Does it mean something isn't quite right with the engine? And does damage to the engine happen when it does that?
it's the normal sounds a high performance engine makes when it has a fairly unrestricted exhaust system. It's unburnt fuel hitting the exhaust and igniting usually exaggerated by lean conditions due to the higher exhaust temps. If you have the stock exhaust or have the NPP exhaust in quiet mode you will rarely hear it but it's quite pronounced with the NPP exhaust in the open position.
One additional difference to be noted. The Z06 has summer only tires. The Stingray has all season tires which, if you live northern USA, enables year round use. Not sure if all season tires are available for Z06 rims.
90% of folks are gonna park their sports car during the winter months. I'm one of those 90%, 🤣 .... been doing it since 1987. If you can afford a sports car, you can afford a "winter beater" also.
