Welcome Back. For Today's project we use a Cen-Tech scan tool with live data to diagnose and repair a misfire on a 2013 Chevy Cruze 1.4 Turbo. The scanner that was used can be found at Harbor Freight. www.harborfrei...
I just came across this video looking for a reason as to way my 2013 Chevy Cruze was doing some crazy things and when you explained what yours was doing I was like OMG!!! That’s exactly what mines been doing!! I’m soooo glad u made this video because it’s saved me around $100 an hour taking it to a Chevrolet dealership and having it diagnosed!! You are amazing for making this video! Thank you a million times! Now let’s hope this helps my car! I’ll update this comment in a few days.
+Amanda Smith No problem. Thanks for all of the kind words! Hopefully it's the same issue. It's a pretty straight forward fix. Definitely looking for a followup. Thanks for watching and please subscribe and click on the bell to receive all of updates on the channel!
Streeters Garage The new plugs didn’t help a thing! Engine light will flash for like 20 secs after the car misses a bunch of times while driving it and by the time I get the car home the engine light goes off and the computer checked can’t pick anything up at all. My hubby has the same exact one u have also. I’m so confused at this far right now and upset too. Any more advice u can give please email me! How can I send u my email?
+Amanda Smith Ok. Need to check a couple of things. 1st is the coil pack and the individual coils going to the plugs. Flip it over and look down the rubber boot. Inside the boot you’ll see a metal spring. Make sure the spring is not kicked off to one side inside the boot. If it as. Take a pick and and free it up. And it should reset. Also check the boots to make sure there not torn and allowing spark to pass through to the liners in the head. Also when you get a misfire and the blinking check engine light. Do not turn the car off. Leave it running and hook it up to the scan tool. This will give you the active misfire count from that drive cycle. Once you turn the car off that data is lost. Once you know the cylinder that is misfiring you can narrow it down. The cylinder order is 1,2,3,4. When standing in the front of the car and looking at the engine. Cylinder 1 is on the left by the air box and cylinder 4 is on the right by the battery.
Streeters Garage my husband checked the coil pack and said one of the boots was tore and the spring inside was burnt to a crisp. He ordered a new coil pack and just now installed it and problem solved. It runs great now! Thank you so so much. This is Amanda btw. I'm on my husbands yt?.
Dude your a legend...added this video amongst your other videos on the 13 cruze to my custom diy playlist here on yt. Glad i found you, your literally a God send
Brilliant, i have the exact problem with my Cruze. I was a couple of hours short of doing the transmission oil. You are a God send. It is extremely common with Australian delivered Cruz Crap Boxes that gearboxes regularly pack in, fuel senders at less than 10,000. European design in one of the harshest climates in the world equates to multiple warranty breaches. Finally diagnostic checks on engine warning light at $70AUD a pop, which can be purely based on battery voltage issues. Are what honestly reflected the pathetic attitude to car quality for GMH Australia. If it wasn't for you and You Tube I would have made a compressed foot stool out of it.
2013 Cruze - 1.8L. sputters a bit when trying to initially start it, then I see the blinking check engine. Eventually, it just stays on solid. I can only drive it about 4 miles before it starts to complain about over heating. I did buy a new thermostat for it (stupidly--duralast), but did nothing. I've seen from others that I needed an AC Delco ...so I went to Amazon (not autozone...they don't carry those)...grabbed the whole housing unit with thermostat for $78. Getting that installed today. Otherwise, the car runs fine. I did just throw in a brand new battery, but thinking the plugs are next...after changing the oil. Thanks for the Video, seems easy enough!
My wife's cruze was jerking so bad specially going up hills I gapped all sparkplugs at 28 she drove it last night she said no more jerking so far hopefully it will now run smoother.
+Oscar Hernandez Hopefully this resolves it. Glad it helped you out. Thanks for watching and please subscribe and please click on the bell to receive all the updates on my channel.
Never take your car to the dealership for repair. The dealership where I bought my car had made costly mistakes with the diagnosis which repairs costed me over $8000 in repairs. I had a problem with my 2015 running rough. My mechanic found it needed a full tuneup which was the ignition coil and spark plugs. My 2015 Chevy Cruze is running better. My mechanic replaced the ignition coil assembly and spark plugs. My mechanic did a better job after completing the repairs
I would check the VIN number of the engine and see if it's different then the body of the car. Check to make sure they actually replaced it and didn't rip you off.
You get the stabilitrack light too when the check engine light popped on? My younger brothers Cruze is failing compression test with the P0300 and 301 codes.
My 2015 Chevy Cruze is misfiring. My Check Engine light is on, mostly flashing. My Service Traction Stability light is on. I changed the spark plugs yesterday, but no change. Should I change out the ignition coil? How long can I drive like this and be ok?
I had same problem coil pack and plugs fixed the misfires for the most part. But still a few random misfires. But hesitation has returned. Not to full extent but now looking into the pcv valve disc located in the the intake manifold, its missing. Pulled the dipstick and having excess vacuum when checking oil level.
Should have changed the boots and springs, that is where most of the issues happen on these engine. Also need to check the coil pack for hair line cracks, a common problem.
i had the same issue, i replaced all spark plugs and coil pack, ran great for 10 minutes then started running rough and sending alarms agian, and also so oil found or leak in pvc valve. So i hooked machine back up to it and it gives me exact same codes. What do you think?
One thing I would check is the springs within the boots. I’ve noticed that they’ll get pushed off to one side inside the boot and cause a misfire. All you need to do is take a pick and straighten it out and I’m willing to bet the misfire goes away. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!
check for leaking valve cover that eventually leaks (oil) down into the spark plug well...this will cause a misfire. Replace the valve cover ($50)...or by a new valve cover seal. ($12)
Hey quick question don’t know if anyone will answer I changed my ignition coils and spark plugs but still get the P0304 code check engine light comes on flickering and stability traction control also as well
My Chevy have a blinking check engine light the car is rough it shakes hard when it’s on and it won’t accelerate it keeps saying stabili trak on and I have liquid coming out the exhaust and I don’t know what’s the issue any one knows the problem ?
I’m having the same issues, however my check engine light is just on. (It is because I have a sensor that needs replaced) but if it’s not flashing can it still be the same thing? Everything you described right at the beginning is what I’m experiencing now
I have a 2014 Chevy Cruze, it keeps misfiring at random, it used to do it when the gas got lower around 1/4 tank and while going uphill but now it happens just at random, we fixed the coil pack and the spark plugs twice now, but uts still doing it. Any idea of what else it could be? The spark plugs were bad both times we changed them, and there was only a few months time frame in between, if that helps.
Is it just a straight misfire or any additional codes or messages in the display. If you see a stabilittack error. More than likely it’s a failed PCV / Valve cover issue. Very common. I replaced 4 of them over 136k miles before I traded it in.
Check the purge control valve. It stays open all the time and creates an intake vacuum leak. I have seen this in other videos dealing with this problem with the Cruze. It often is worse just after refuelling.
@@StreetersGarage I’m just at that mileage so I will see about changing mine , I have the stablitrack that keeps coming up .. I’m going to try what u suggested
I have a power loss and blinking check engine light and traction control light... Codes: P0300 , C0242 , C0244 Spark plugs are changed , but problem is still there... What could be a problem ?
I had a random misfire p0300 in my 2015 Cruze it dose it only on hard acceleration 4000rpm an up not at low rpm. Changed spark plugs and coil but it didn’t fix it. had the dealer look at it after I changed the plugs an coil an they said there was nothing wrong with it I would really like some help on this!
My plugs were cross threaded and took me forever to take the little shits out, ended up replacing the head for the engine to overheat and warp the head 5000 miles later…
mine had a cylinder 2 or sometimes once I reset it a random misfire. A new coil pack and spark plugs made no difference. In the end I got my compresser and pumped air in from the air filter hose. (used a plastic cup with hole in base and connected air hose. fastened the cup in the air filter hose with the hose clamp--20psi) air could be heard escaping on hose to throttle body. Adjusted that hose clamp and now all good
Please help. My chevy cruze 2011 has misfire problem in cylinder 1 and 4. When I drive it, suddenly engine light flash and it perform terribly. I have changed engine, plugs, coils and their wires still facing the same problem. Please please help! Note, when i restart the car the blinking goes off then it will come again after few meters.
Streeters Garage which video should I follow? Please help! It keeps tell me ""misfire in cylinder 1 & 4" just to off and on car again its fine. Then after few miles it blinks again and perform very bad!!! Help
I just had the same problem and they did the diagnostics and said the misfire on cylinder 4. Solution they said is to replace the engine. Right now I feel little relieved after seeing this video. Can someone suggest me where I can take my car to? I’m in Belleville Ontario Canada
I have a 2012 chevy cruze LT 1.4 today while I was driving with the ac on my car started to sputter or like jerk then the service stabilitrak light came on with a blinking check engine light. It doesn't stay on so I can't get a code when the diagnostic is done. Just recently changed the plugs and boots six plus months ago. Any advice please??
@@StreetersGarage we did six months ago. Today we bought a new coil pack and the third cylinder spring looked burnt and the boot was stuck on the spark plug. Changed the third boot but didn't change the spark plugs or the other boots and still doing the same thing. Got a code today it was po300.
Well the P0300 is a misfire code which explains the blinking engine light. I would just replace everything at once. Put a GM complete coil pack along with a set of plugs in it. I’m starting to wonder about the quality of the aftermarket parts in these cars.
@@StreetersGarage we ordered some new acdelco plugs that will be in tomorrow and have a GM coil pack. Hopefully that will be the problem. Is it normal for the boot to be stuck on the spark plug?? And thank you for your help. I ways come here with my car issues. You helped me other times with my car with these videos
I’ve always put a little bit of dielectric grease on the body of the plugs before I install the coil packs. It helps them from sticking. Glad I could help.
Just took mine in today, they said there was a misfire in Cylinder 4. They still aren’t entirely sure what to do next, they said the spark plug looks like it had 20k miles on it but I just replaced them 2 months ago.
Streeters Garage so I replaced my coil packs a few weeks back like I said, however today after work I took it in because my check Engine light was on so they read the code and it turns out that it was because of the misfire in cylinder 4 which was my initial problem weeks ago. Replacing the coil packs fixed it temporarily it seems. But now it says my ignition coil needs to be replaced? But wouldn’t I have to buy another coil pack? Maybe it’s something with the wiring? Not sure. Don’t want to keep throwing $$ at it
@@dklarl11 I didnt fix it, when is summer its okay, missfire are not happening but in winter i have to warm up car first and then I can drive normaly, when I dont warm car up it jerks when i push throtle. I think that has something with lambda sensor or oxygen sensor O2. I changed spark plugs and coil but nothing changed
I have a 2011 Chevy Cruze that had a crack turbo I purchase a new turbo and it was install and there was a wastegate silinoid valve installed and check engine light is on and white smoke is coming out from the exhaust
so the Cruze that i owned, my check engine light flashed about 12 seconds and disappeared today, and i can feel to delay and the jerk while accelerating. should i take the vehicle right away?
Mine is also doing the service traction control , and stability. Pcv has been replaced 3times . Replaced coolant lines still over heats and runs rough any ideas ?
I changed spark plugs, coil pack and valve cover. And now its misfiring on cylinder 3. Its worse then what it was before i changed everything The car shakes really bad, sounds like a racecar.
@@user-wk9bu6xm7y Thank you for your reply. Light went away today .. I usually dont turn the engine light off with a scanner and wait for computer to do it.. took awhile but no more misfires, no engine light. I did smock test and valvecover has no leak. 2011 cruze .. has 240,000kms on it and planning on keep driving pass 300,000k.
I've just came to teems with the fact that my 15 Sonic with a 1.4 is an all around horrible design. I've thrown everything at it and it still misses and it literally just turned over 90,000. I've driven Chevys my whole life but now I'm switching to Subaru!
I decided to replace the whole coilpak which incl the contact springs and boots. Plugs were already replaced. The coilpak fixed the misfire on load. Car has almost 80k on it so similar to this issue. Thanks for the video.
@@StreetersGarage thank you for the reply so quickly . my buddy has a scanner I'll go have him plug it In thank you very much. the light flashed. then went off
Yes. That normal of a misfire. It will blink yo indicate there’s an issue and it will then go away. The best thing to do is to drive it and trigger the misfire and then scan it before turning the engine off. It’ll have all of the active misfire counts at that point. Once you turn the car off, the info is lost.
I have a 2012 1.4 that I am having some trouble with. It has been every once in a while when I start to drive it would jerk like it wants to shut off and the check engine light will come on and go off right away and then the car will drive fine. I recently changed the plugs because of low acceleration and mileage but it's still doing it. I called onstar to run a diagnostic test but there is no stored codes. Could it be that I need to replace the coil pack also? The car has 144,000miles. Thank you
