Thanks for sharing this. I just did the water pump on my cruze and I noticed that there was air trapped in the top of the radiator. Open the white plug on the passenger size radiator tank with the engine off and the coolant cap open. You can hear the air escape. Then you can see the coolant drip out of that connection. Air in the coolant will cause the system to run hot causing additional wear and tear on the gaskets or crack the plastic pieces.

Thanks! I wish I had seen this plug would have mentioned it too. Just pulled mine and air also escaped! Now it should be fully bled. Thanks for watching and the tip!

Excellent video. ONLY thing not mentioned is that you MUST AIR bleed the radiator with the WHITE hex plug on top of the radiator thats on the passenger side in the front. Its tucked under the cover and you can use a philllips head screw driver or a 13 mm socket. Also run the heater through a few cycles to clear any air bubbles trapped in the heater core. Besides that AWESOME video. Thank you again.

Good video, informative. fore warning: had the identical slow leak on my 2012 with 90k mi. Being a gm tech for over 40 yrs I assumed the same part on the leak. after replacing it - it still leaked! Found the real issue was simply the large hose clamp on the gooseneck had insufficient clamp load. Could of saved some money & grief by simply using a pressure tester to begin with. 20/20 hindsight never fails.

I’d replaced two of these on my wife’s 1.4l cruze, due to the the summer temps destroying plastic components in the southwest US and then by the third time, I got an aluminium one that had clearly used the plastic version to make the mold and then had it’s sealing faces machined later. Touch wood, it’s been great so far and I’d definitely recommend it.

I have a 6 speed 2014 Chevy Cruze and it has been phenomenal! I ONLY started experiencing problems when I let the oil get to 7K before replacing it. I have been changing the oil every 3-4 thousand miles, and have roughly 160,000 on it now. I really like the car, but started experiencing this exact issue in the past few days. I hope I can repair it with some quality parts and have it go for another 7-8 years. I have since resumed the 3-4K mile oil changes. I don’t think this car does well with used oil, I’m not sure why 🤷🏽‍♂️ or maybe it is simply coincidence. Thank you for the upload!

I just repalced this water tube on my daughter's car. Be very, very carefully when taking out the old bolts from the old water tube. The top bolt snapped off just behind the dead of the bolt. Car has 90,000 miles. After a small amount of heat and some small wiggling in a counter clockwise direction, it came out. Piece of cake for a experienced mechanic. 71 Inch pounds on the new bolts, and good to go!

I stopped watching a little past halfway, since "installation is the reverse of removal", as they say in most manuals. I’ve come to realize that the reason why these break and leak. Most of the guys in these oil change garages tend to lean on these exact parts when changing the oil filter. If you notice, under these parts being replaced in this vid, you can see the oil filter cap and nut. Well, since there’s not much room to changed the oil filter, these guys start pushing over the coolant hoses and the plastic housing and dont realize that their fracturing it. To much much push and shoving over these coolant parts can cause cracks and leaks and also on the uppers hose coming from the reserve tank. So now, when I go have my oil changed, I warn them about that are and to take it easy.

Changing one on a 2012 that someone used screw on clamps. The plastic appeared to have expanded at a different rate than the clamp could causing a perfect straight crack under the clamp. The original clamps would expand and contract by design as the motor heats and cools. FYI

Pro tip, if this happens to your Cruze don't wait to fix it. It will destroy the water pump before long. I and my family own the 1.4 and 1.8 ecotec in various cars and my aunt waited fixing it. She now needs a new outlet and water pump. Fix this ASAP, it's cheaper than the new pump.

THere's a special coverage adjustment for the water pump issued back in 2015. Should look into it to get it fixed while its still under warranty. gm.oemdtc.com/540/engine-coolant-leak-from-the-water-pump

@The_Dastardly_Dan 5 лет назад
I wanna say it's for the 2012-2014 Cruze. I fixed one for my aunt with the water outlet leak but she let it get to o far like this and the water pump gave out. These 1.4l require a very attentive owner or they struggle to stay running. Little repairs get bigger with time. I work for Honda and see this alot. It's just a valve cover leak until you run the engine dry and score the internals, then it's just a new engine. Chevy should warranty alot more than they actually do. I love the Chevy brand but they have room to improve.

My gasket was not sealing but the flange was ok. It looked good but had shrunk so that when it was inside the coolant flange it was smooth across the mating surface unlike the GM replacement. My car is a 2013 and my son's 2012 cruze both had the same issue. His was replaced about 50k miles under warranty and has over 100k now and still doesn't leak. Mine went at 90k miles. The tool that made the job easy was a 3" long 3/8 extension the harbor freight E10 socket. The best tool for the clips was what any VW mechanic would use - Angled 45° Pipe Hose Clamp Pliers Tool Fuel Coolant Hose Swivel Jaw Locking Clip (search that on ebay as the pliers very inexpensive at $9). Also I used the Trim And Molding Tool Set 5 Pc from harbor freight to get the push pins off the belly cover under the radiator after removing the T20 screws. A tiny flat screwdriver helps in getting the electrical connections off. The harbor freight 1/4" torque wrench and 3/8 adapter fit the bill for torquing down the flange e10 bolts. Hope that helps somebody. Saved a lot of money doing this myself in an hour and a half.

Also I swapped the hose going to the coolant overflow tank while I was at it as I wanted to get that connection perfect as it has an o-ring and my son's 2012 leaked there previously. Search amazon for General Motors 13251447 Inlet Hose and it was perfect for my 1.4T 2013 cruze.

just replaced this on my car. Old part has an O ring and new part does not. It is still slightly leaking, We put old O ring in and it is helping somewhat. Any ideas from you would help. (The O ring is part of the reservoir hose.) Thank you.

I bought a used 2014 1.4 Cruze. Mine cracked at the neck for the large hose at 78K. I replaced it myself, took 1 hour following these directions. Dorman part #902-846. (I found the same seal for the part resting in the engine compartment as if someone had already changed out this part.)

@@SOMETECHTUTORIALS man this car is a real piece of junk. I purchased it with 30k miles & it now has 97k & I’ve put $3,500 into the cooling system. I fixed the issue that lead me to this video just to have it overheat on me months later again from elsewhere. I’ve had it back from the mechanic for approximately 6 months & the check engine light came on last night. It runs well for a few months & then it’s onto the next problem.

Just replaced mine. The main return hose fitting on the plastic housing was collapsed and brittle AF. Cheap plastic parts on this car.

Is possible to flat sand whole part to get gasket to compress again. If no holes anywhere. ?
@jungleking007Channel
@jungleking007Channel 9 месяцев назад
Probably but only as a temporary fix. The issue is the gasket in most cases. Better off just to replace the gasket or the pipe as a whole.

What size is the hose that you used to help drain the coolant? I kno u dont need it, but better than coolant shooting everywhere

It was a random bit of hose I had lying around, think it might be 3/8"ID? Not sure though.

Hey bro, thanks for sharing the video, just wanna ask some question about my cruze 2012 model, why my reservoir can't stay full, every time i fill up like 1 liter it will just take like 1 week and the tank goes empty, and another I noticed it I always heared running water on the coolant tank when I start driving.
@jungleking007Channel
@jungleking007Channel 4 года назад
The water pumps on these can go bad and will cause significant loss in coolant. Head gasket leak is another. Coolant hose to turbo is another. Look for any wet spots where here shouldn't be. There is an extended warranty and recall I believe specifically for the cooling system. See if you qualify and have a dealer check it out under said recall/warranty. Thanks for watching! Good luck!

Personally, I think the Chevy Cruze is a damn good car, it’s sadly a victim of shitty modern industry trends, such as cheapening out on essentials such as the coolant lines (plastic parts on the engine) to the point where most people can see it as dogshit engineering

Mine Cracked as well I guess the heat from the coolant became to be to much for that cheap plastic. The lower cylinder that is used to connect the hose to the bottom of the radiator the top half of it has broken to pieces. Would you recommend replacing the whole water outlet? Or do you know of anything that can be used to just fixed just that part?

It's better that you replace the part and not try to patch it back together.
