I just did this on a 1988 GMC Van (RV conversion). A couple of notes: Rather than messing with the headlight plunger to remove it, I disconnected the connector from the bottom of the headlight switch. Additionally, for my particular van, the speedo cable came off by pressing down on a clip and pulling the cable out. Other than those two things, this guide was extremely helpful, and helped me convince my step-dad to let me pull out his dash to install 4x6 speakers into the dash. He is very happy with the improvement in sound quality and volume compared to just 4" speakers in the doors.
