I wasn't going to make this video but my customer said that he couldn't find one on the internet. So as I looked I couldn't find one either, so here it is.
Only video I've found on these Van's that's worth a damn. I've got bad speakers in front, bad cable for hot and cold. Plus an ac leak. I should be able to get it all done off this video. Thanks
@@Vanabond I got the speakers done, the cable issue fixed and put a wiper pulse board in. It's all back together now. Didnt have the patience to go further.
had my 95 g30 dash out...I painted it...put in the hearer core, new radio, new speakers, wiper pulse board....and a few other PITA items just to get it over with once.
I practiced on a junker at pick n pull. I think I'm ready. Dumbass former owber let it sit for two years abd when I got it started, green river comes flooding out the dash. Then i pull up the mats and find holes where it leaked and rusted through the floor. This is on a cherry 1993 with only 40k miles!
Draining and flushing my cooling system today. I do this twice a year because of watching what you had to go through. My heater core is still good after 260,000 miles.
i felt sorry for you, glad you stuck thru it to finish. i attempted on my 1981 f350, hidden bolts, etc, i cut the heater box open in the engine compartment, used silver aluminum tape to reseal
fuck yes. thank you for real man. finally a video of exactly what i need to do. no dumb shit no cute shit no songs just legit information , step by step process and no dumb shit. i very much appreciate it. thank you angry dave anything else todo on this van id love all i can get. real talk man thanks
"Have fun with this fucker" LOL, thank you so much for making this. Going to save me hours. Gotta change out the heater core on my mom's chevy g30 motorhome. Cheers.
God damn, Dave. You are awesome. My daughter just bought a Chevy c30 short bus and wants to convert it into a camper...wait, she wants me to convert it. It's Michigan in Dec and no heat, so thanks for this video. You are incredibly through and made it very clear on the shit I have to do this Saturday. Thanks and I subscribed and will be watching more of your videos.
It's not a bad job at all, only a few tools needed. All the shops told the owner it was a 8-10 hr job. I got it done in less than 3 hrs with putting this video together.
Missed a bit of details on the dash removal. And engine parts removal, but overall it helped a lot. Just be aware rookies that you gotta pull things like wiring to the headlights etc
Just a warning about those hidden bolts under the insulation on the blower box. He said there were only two hidden ones but mine had four, and I broke my box thinking all the screws were out and it was just stuck.
Just walked by my van today and see the heater box dripping, son of A Bitch.. Thanks dave, nice no bullshit, talking on and on video..straight to the meat and potatoes
I changed a heater core in a Buick Somerset about 20 years ago parked on a city street & in 5 degree temperatures (Fahrenheit) in the dark with a damn flashlight and no help... Talk about a MISERABLE job! True story 😟
Mines an 84 but there's no videos in English for it so thanks, I think most will be the same shit show for me. Or I'll jus bypass it cause it's a camper van we never drive in the winter anyhow.
I just wanted to let you know that this is the worst job I have ever done on a vehicle. It freaking sucks. Mine was an 88 g20 conversion, so all the plastic was brittle, half of it broke, it was filled with at least half a dozen mouse nests, the vacuum lines crumbled at a touch, and at some point someone had been in before me, and some things were never connected or were connected wrong. Without this video I would have quit this job about an hour in, driven the vehicle somewhere, torched it and reported in stolen. I face the job of fixing the craptastic mess GM designed (on purpose, I guess) to fail, and I'm fairly certain it will be worse than disassembly. So sure that I am vaguely thinking about completely deleting the heater core driven heating system, replacing it with electric fantail heat, at least for the front heat, and then building a custom dash and doghouse that looks cool and lets me throw away 90% of the 'trash under the dash'. So thanks Dave! you may have hated doing this video but I'm damned glad and grateful you did. I keep killing myself laughing at Stinson down below, I have to assume either he hasn't actually done this yet, or maybe his van magically got plastic parts that didn't turn into something with the tensile strength of a heavy frost.if it's the latter, I may have to dox him so I can steal his van. Take care man, thanks again.
I have a van g20 and a eurocar. Its like walk in park to work with older us cars. If u dont beleave me go and change the heater core to a eurocar. Ps. Guy in the video sounds like Lemmy.
600$ +at a shop. diy? dont get a cheap core! the stock core can last for 30+yrs if nobody mickey moused the cooling system. patience for this job! good video ! ty
Just notice you can remove dash panel only, instead of removing the whole dash board... I would like to know if by only removing this dasn panel (where the speedometer, temp.gaure etc... are located) cause my temp gauge & oil pressure gauge are not working, and wanted to know if I could remove them only by removing dash panel only ? thanks, great video... looks easy !
i have a 95 g30 & whenever the dash heat is on it leaks coolant onto the floor on pass side under the heater seeping from the firewall area. Is it likely just the heater core or might I need to replace the whole heater box?
I have a 93 G20, and it smells bad when the heater is on. I got the dash off thanks to your video. How do you know if the heater core is bad? I Also noticed a cable disconnected going to my blower motor. The motor turns on when I plug it in, even when the van has no key in the ignition, hmmm? Any ideas? Thanks!
@@davedixon2635 thanks - great video. I have all the same '93 g20 and all the above issues (water, fog, parfum de chevy) - gonna stop gap measure and bypass heater core with a hose until I can replace asap. meantime out with the winter gear...
You can, I've done it but theres a little prying involved and from my experience prying on these plastic housings always seems to crack the housings. This dash is probably the easiest to pull with minimal tools and very little time involved so I always pull the dash on these, better to be safe than sorry on an older vehicle.
@@davedixon2635 Do you want to do mine? I don't have the patience and can't find a mechanic to do it. I'm just going to install a supplemental heater box in the van otherwise.
@@davedixon2635 Grew up just outside of Buffalo. You know if that van had/needs a heater control valve? Got a 96 G30...had the core bypassed like that....got the new core in (and a new motor)....now I'm piping the heater/radiator hoses. My 95 G30 (was a passenger van with rear heat) has the vacuum controlled heater control valve...do I need that for my cargo van? Can't find a definite answer.
Yes, you'll have a front and a rear. Usually located in the rear of the van. Quick tip... take your heater hoses off the heater core and back flush with a garden hose. I'm sure there's videos on how to do this on youtube.
@@davedixon2635 man thanks a lot. I'll try that first. You've helped a lot. I thought that was a heater core in the back. I got the jayco conversion and I'm new to it. I love these vans though.
@@davedixon2635 I went to buy it and they are asking if it's with or without AC. It's a 1994 chevy g20 van. What's that mean? Is it without, cause the ac works
Anybody know if that heater control valve is needed on cargo vans? I have a '95 G30 that was a passenger van. That has a heater control vacuum valve. I also have a '96 G30 that was/is a cargo van. The heater core was bypassed when I bought it. I'm trying to find out if I need that valve and how to pipe it.
If it's a vaccum controlled valve then yes you need it. If your van does not have any vaccum lines you'll need to run lines up to your intake plenum and find a vaccum to tap into.
Thanks! I figured it out and found a Delco as I've read these buggers leak pretty quickly if you buy the cheap ones. The vac line was still hiding in there and intact. Appreciate the video, it helped back when I yanked the dash a couple months ago.
I got a 1993 chevy g10 Theres this thing under the van that spins when you drive the car like a long bar i dont know what u call it But i notice is leaking red liquid Im not a mechanic What u think it can be?
Never seen this comment but it sounds like you're describing your driveshaft and if it's leaking red liquid that would be transmission fluid, the drive shaft itself does not contain fluid but it does slip into the rear of the transmission and most likely you have a bad seal in tbe rear of the transmission allowing fluid to come out.
This is nuts. Cut the seam in the dash to the right of the dog house. Use a Dremel. It makes a nice clean thin cut. A few bolts removes the right side dash. Go from there. Much quicker and easier.
