Didn't catch the mod required to do the Gen 1 timing chain cover at first. I assume you're going to use an electric water pump. Are you going to Turbo this one as well?
So i got this same engine gifted to me and i am the first to tear it down the person who gave it to me ripped it when he had it so it is old but new to me i am going to do a full rebuild for it and i took off the heads and its a bare block the only thing i haven't done to it just yet is take out the pistons the block is good and the rods i think like 2 were bent somewhat out of all of them and what i would like to know is realistically 1 how much would have to be done to make it high horsepower and 2 how much did bread did u have to put into it to build it its my first project so i am going to take my time with it and ima do it right im not trying to just slap something together and be like YEA IT RUNS then that shit explode when my peoples brought it they said they kept it at 200 horsepower and would put that shit to the limits and they brought it used so ik thst the engine seen some thangs feel me but i am certain that i could make it WAY FASTER then 200 hp i was told he had a friend who had the same engine and made it like 1200 horse so my goal is to top that its going to like i said take time but my goal isn't to rush it i will build a sleeper that i will be able to drive like its my grandmother car and no one will suspect a thing until its time to pay me after a race let me know what u think of this tho ik i typed alot but yea i am extremely excited to dig into it more
You will have to take the block to a good machine shop and get them to install 4 bolt main caps and it needs to have the water jackets half filled with Hard Block. You will need to buy a good forged rotating assembly. The heads will have to be professionally ported because, to my knowledge, no one makes aluminum heads for these engines. It would be a lot cheaper if you built a 350 or a 383.
