Everyone with these old Chevy's has had these electrical issues. It's always a pain trying to diagnose and buying new clusters when the issue is a simple ground. This is a genius idea. I will stop replacing my flickering led's and repair the ground instead haha.
Thanks for the great video, I bought a new cluster from my local junkyard swapped it and still had the problem I found your video and knew I had the same problem. I did what you said and 15 min later it was fixed. This video is going to go viral with all these trucks having the same problem and it not being the gauges themselves. 💪🏻🙌🏻👍🏻
Thanks a lot dude, didn't know where to start, just T'ed a new ground from A8 and fixed my issue. Was tired of banging on my dash on the way to work every morning 😅
Awesome. Mine would always do this and wondered why. A quick search came to your video. I think I scared mine. I just simply pulled off the dash cover and put back on, seems to of scared it into working correctly cause no more flashing like before. Now I know what the issue is and if I have in future know what to do. You my friend are awesome.
The bad ground is a common problem with the 99 to 02 truck clusters only. When checking for a bad ground used a multimeter. Make sure the cluster is still connected and the ignition is on to get an accurate test result. Connect the red lead to a known good ground and the black lead to the ground being tested. You should not have any more than .3 volts on a good ground.
2000 Silverado message center and PND123 flickering issue fixed, thanks Kammeron!!!! How did you figure this fix out? Tried first to re-solder the points where plug meets circuit board as google searching issue suggested and thought it fixed flickering issue but after driving 30 miles in to work problem persisted. THANK YOU, WORKING GOOD AS NEW!!!!!!!!
Yes I have a 2002 Silverado and it has the same problem I put the ground like u did on the video is there more grounds in the same place that I need to rewind ground?
My truck (2002 Avalanche) has the same issue. My cluster is acting exactly like yours in the beginning of the video. All of the gauge needles randomly drop to zero and come back except for the volt meter. All of the warning lights come on and do the bulb test mode when the gauges start working. I've taken the cluster out to check for corrosion or bad solder joints on the circuit board, and everything looks perfect. I was thinking a possible ground issue too. I'll comment back my findings. Either way, thanks for this video.
Im going to tackle this issue today hopefully.getting to the point where the cluster is really starting to throw off the truck performance.other day the tow haul came on with the rest of the Christmas lights and i had to turn the truck off and then on again and it drove just fine.replaced the 7 year old battery and that fixed part of it but the cluster is going nuts so ill try this.hopefully get it fixed because I have a feeling replacing it wont fix it.
I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado, 4 x 4, and my cluster didn’t work at all and how I cured. It was take the cluster completely out. Let it set 10 to 15 minutes plug it back in and reset all the gauges in it and back to normal. It was working prior to that when it went out once before cost me $500 for cluster repair, then save me some money
That abs light is the ebcm module that is mounted under the vehicle by the driver side. You need to replace it or rebuild it and solder the flow points on ground & power for the relay
I have an 2002 Sierra 2500hd. Mine will be fine for a while then act up. Then work again. I tried all the “engine and body “ grounds but nothing. I’ll have to try this black and white wire trick. Did you just strip the wire and attach another one ?
Good vid. It's been three years so I'd be interested in knowing if your fix took. What I did was disconnect the cluster, find that A8 contact. Then hit it with red DEOXIT to clean out any build up. I ran a flat toothpick up and down the contact to scrub it. Then, hit it with DEOXIT green to lube it up. After reinstallation I went 70 miles and no issues, including hitting bumps along the way. I'll find out if it takes tomorrow morning which is when it usually acts up the most.
Si funciona, estuve apunto de desarmar todo el tablero pero afortunadamente encontré este video, solo saqué una punta del cable blanco negro y lo pegué en un tornillo de la columna de la dirección que esta ahí abajo y se solucionó el problema
On my 2004 Chevy Silverado the black wire with a white stripe is on 12b pin on the instrument cluster connector, will this still work,ok it worked thanks 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Hey man would a ground issue like that sometimes cause the truck not to start? Sometimes the gauges flap like that and the truck takes forever to turn on.
Hey brother when you were having this issues would you headlights dim as well when the cluster was acting up? I have replaced the cluster had the alternator checked. I was just wondering if your lights were also flickering the same way?
If u want to properly diagnose it get a multi meter and ohm test the grounds on the cluster one test lead on the ground pin on the cluster plug then the other test lead on a good ground, a good ground will be under 1 ohm. Test both grounds and test the pins in the plug for “terminal tightness” if the grounds are good.
I’ve seen that Happened before with one of those and the truck kept stalling after and killing the battery and it was an alternator with the one I seen
Same issue with my 2000 Silverado. Battery light comes on, gauges go crazy for a few minutes after I start my truck, then go normal. I hope this works.
Every now and again when i crank my truck all the lights on the cluster come on and flicker off and on spazing out then all of a sudden work fine and go off ..any ideas?
My 05 yukon would flicker and make the other lights on the dash flicker and come on when i would be driving and would push the window buttons would that be a cluster problem i got my batter checked its good and aswell as my alternator
HI THERE I HAVE A 96 CHEVY K3500 AND THE GEAR LIGHT IS FLICKING AND OTHERS AT TIMES.. I KNOW YOU DID A 99 + WHAT WHAT TO YOU THING.. THANK YOU.. I DID REPLACE THE INGTION SWITCH. BEFOER IT ALL HAPPENED.. WITH A NEW ONE..
It didn't work for my truck. I can sit in truck my gauges oil.temp.fuel gauges move up with no key in truck .But you open drivers door gauges go back to normal. Shut door gauges go up again. Done all grounds alternator and battery charging good. Am lost on what to do next.
Some times mine goes dead just sitting there , never while driving . I have never seen it die , it just wont power up sometimes . If I win I will fill you in . good luck ! 2004 gmc
Hello, I have a problem and I would like you to help me solve it. The fuel meter in my car goes up when I drive on a road and returns to normal when I stop. What is the problem?
:( unforfunately, as soon as I grounded A8 (black and white), it bricked my PCM........The needles were wildly moving and when you completely turn the ignition off and remove the key they would still flicker (the needles).
I love how the entire view is obscured by the guy sitting in front of the camera 🤣 didn’t see a damn thing he did to get to the cluster panel (I know, I shouldn’t need to see it but why even bother to put it in the video)
@@kammeronbennetts1022 I just seen your post I have a 05 Silverado just my lights flicker on my cluster that's my only problem u think that would be the ground on the 05 to or is that just a problem with 99-02 didn't know if that problem was fixed in the newer from factory
