The Chevy small-block V-8 is an engine that has touched so many lives that, no matter where your car brand loyalty lies, chances are good that you’ve got a personal story about one. It has powered tens of millions of passenger cars, trucks, race machines and boats. Calling it an American icon would not be an overstatement or hype. To celebrate 60 years of this icon, we took one apart and put it back together, and we recorded the process to share with you.

this made me shed a tear... my old 1992 chevy camaro rs in turquoise, rolling down i95. it was totaled in an accident. someone ran a light and i got banged up pretty bad... well i just bought another one for $2500. its in rough shape, but the engine cranks and runs like a dream. so little by little i am going to restore it back to original condition, and this video made me happy to see finish product... to many its just an engine, to me, i learned everything about auto repair through this engine, took to many places I never thought I would see. helped outrun troubles, brought me peace on my long drives. got me and the best friend home night running from tampa in an hour, and lastly its the one that got me inspired into mechanics, now I fix airplanes, so to me the ending is so fitting... :)

Brings back childhood memories of helping my old man rebuild these engines at his garage while on summer vacation. Built a couple for my cars when I got old enough to drive, but he would never do much hot-rodding upgrades except maybe putting in flat-top pistons and higher compression heads. @@zzztubazzz value of the car goes down if you drop a different motor in, rebuilding the old engine will give it the "original" feeling.

@@zzztubazzz Show me where you can buy a brand new engine for $2000. In that price range they are definitely rebuilt. Which is fine because they are as good as new but they're not brand new
@kylapendley924
@kylapendley924 3 года назад
@@zzztubazzz You have no idea about what numbers matching is or means and it shows. You also have no idea how little was actually done to this and how little it costs. I can have the same process run on my Ford 302 from my local machine shop for about 900 dollars with me supplying parts (maybe 300 dollars total). There is NO Chevy small block that is as complete as this with all the work that was done for sale anywhere in the world for less than 3k. You are either a young kid (your inexperience in engines is astounding) or you are just another fat, internet troll.

Donny Nice well block work is around 300-700$ then parts if going back original and using your old rods and crank around 500$ You can mostly do a rebuild like this for about 1500$ to 1600$ if your doing the rebuild yourself and only having the machine shop doing the block work.
