Wow! Have to say impressive! Very well explained and leaves little to doubt! I changed my ignition module and it still didn't start. I swapped out a coil from one I've seen run. Still didn't run. But I noticed a lot of rust inside under the rotor. Pickup coil and everything is rusty, so I bought a used distributor shaft complete. Add my plugs and wires to the coil, and I'm back running!
Thanks very informative been wrenching for years and learned something new an so important .Very helpful and easy to understand an so calming!! Yepyep in my book.Have a great day Sir an Thanks Again for Sharing
Thank you, you help me a lot. now I know why my GMC Safari won't start. I put new coil new module, new cap and rotor but didn't wanted start so now I know its the distributor that is bad.
I just converted my TBI to a carburetor. Can I eliminate the ECU plug and just run the positive and negative from the coil to the distributor? I already have my purple and white fuel pump wire hooked to my tach wire for the pump to run properly. I bought an HEI but with the 4.3L V6 with the carb its super tight and cant get proper timing with it.
Salutes TJ664 need help i have a 92 chevy silverado 2500 5.7 starts fine but after 1500 RPM +/- sudenly dies it doesnt send more spark to sparkplugs We start again and start normal but increase the RPM and dies what can be the problem thanks
3 years after you posted this video I' m watching it, I' m looking for videos about my 94 c1500 4.3 l with a TBI Distribuitor. My truck died saturday night, no start no spark, hired a street mechanic because Sundays the shops are closed. He end up replacing Distribuitor cap, rotor, ignition coil and ignition control module and after all the new parts replaced still no start no spark. Today monday mornig the mechanic did not show up. I guess he gave up, I'm not a mechanic but looking your video I think the problem it's inside the distribuitor or all the distribuitor assembly needs to be replaced. Thanks for the video.
Does the distributor in the middle have a 2 and a 3 wire plug. I think that's what I have on my boat. When cold will start and run to 2500 rpm then rpms drop as I give it more throttle. Then if I shut of motor it wont start til next day.
Did you ever figure out what it was. Mine will run fine then it falls on its face and i can smell it running rich. Any help would be appreciated. Here's your one chance youtube dont let me down.....lol
I may have forgot to mention in the video the coil has a heavy gauge pink wire that goes to positive on battery. in vehicle its a switched power source.
That's a good test and maybe you can get it running but it's not the whole story. Just cause you got some spark doesn't mean all is well. There is a number of things that could be wrong with them that this test won't show. I only say this because I just installed a new distributor in my K1500 cause it was running poorly and I know if I performed this test on my old worn out one I would get some spark.
You don't need the computer hooked up for these to work, you even prove it in this video!! LOL The only thing the computer does is control the spark advance.
I always carry a spare mod. In the glove box. When they go there's no warning. Engine just quits running where ever you are. They are E Z to fix on the road side.
