Thanks tons! I like your explanations and that you showed what you did. It’ll really help me when I go to do my own pump, which just started sounding bad. It’ll only be the second major thing I’ve ever worked on in a vehicle. The first was the AC compressor which I replaced in my truck. Removing the belt looks so much easier than the one in my Dodge!

13:00 It would probably be easier to remove the pulley before you pull the pump off the vehicle. Having it attached will make it easier to work with the puller and the pulley won't be in the way to remove the mounting bolts. Then if you reinstall the pump first before you reinstall the pulley you'll have the same advantages. Plus it'll be easier to check your pulley alignment. 25:00 The best place to start with the pulley alignment when you reinstall it is to note where it was on the shaft of the old pump before you remove it. Put it back on in the same position on the shaft of the new one. There may be variations between the pumps but if the manufacture followed the factory specs the pulley should go back in the same position.
@bobaganoosh88
@bobaganoosh88 5 лет назад
removing the pulley off while its on the vehicle usually isn't an option but on this truck, yes you can leave the pump on while removing the pulley. Also there's no reason to have the orientation of the pulley in any certain way besides making sure its pushed all the way onto the shaft aligning with the serpentine belt before instalation

I have a lucky screwdriver too, but mine's a Phillips. Actually, all my Phillips screwdrivers are my lucky screwdrivers because I'm lucky if I can get any Phillips head screws out with them if they've been in place for very long. The crew heads don't have the shoulders to take much torque so they just strip out.

Thanks for the video. My dad was a GM engineer....so I am reasonably knowledgeable about car maintenance and repairs. But not THAT good. The problem is, I can get myself into a lot of trouble, real fast. Trouble so bad I can't recover from! So this video showed me that this PS pump replacement is beyond my capabilities. That alone is worth something! One thing: When starting the job, could you use a turkey baster to suck the PS fluid out of the reservoir so it doesn't spill all over the place when removing the bottom hose clamp?

Nice tutorial! Quick question: at shortly after the 26:30 mark, something started squealing/squeaking (once you hard installed the new pump and turned the car on). Do you know what was causing that noise? That’s what mine is doing, and it sounds like it’s coming from the Power Steering Pump Pulley. I was hoping WD-40 would address the issue, but I think it’s something further (belt looks good though).
@bobaganoosh88
@bobaganoosh88 Год назад
Most likely it's the belt. If you get any power steering fluid on it or oil it'll make it noisy. It happens to me often. I try to completely remove the belt before taking any lines of now.
@bobaganoosh88
@bobaganoosh88 Год назад
Also if it is the belt wd40 should make it worse or better for a short time and it'll tell you if it's the belt making the noise. It'll need a new belt if so. No amount of cleaning makes it stop for me.

@Brad The Mechanic, my power steering pump has been whinning on my 2003 ever since we got it back in 2012. It whines all the time, and increases in pitch with engine speed. Never been low on fluid. What if I ran the truck with a bad steering pump to the point the shaft with the pully got grinded off by the bad bearings I'm guessing? The pully fell off with the shaft still connected. Just a little spike sticking out the back. Will that tool still work, or can I force the remaining shaft piece out with a dowel and a hammer with out messing the it up? My belt fell off also naturally when the pully came off. Made a Terrible racket I had to limp it home stopping over, and over to keep the temp down. So, on my Envoy the pump was whining and I would have to keep refilling the fluid. Pump seemed to completely stop and no power steering. I drove it a few days and then the serpentine belt fell off and the pulley was blown out of the pump (shaft was still in the pulley). It's an Envoy 2004 xl and having a hard time finding the right replacement pump. The pulley I have slides right on to the new pump (which is just like the one being replaced) And then, the pulleys the stores have for these new pumps are about an inch larger in diameter. Sometimes if you grab it and twist with a set of pliers you can get it to come loose enough to remove. Good luck!

How did you cut those transmission lines?
@bobaganoosh88
@bobaganoosh88 5 лет назад
i used a brake/fuel line cutter. you can use a hacksaw if you wanted just make sure the ends are cleaned up before putting a replacement rubber hose over it.

I have a trailblazer 02 and I do not know what the steering wheel is so hard but it is not dripping from any place. Can you help me please
@bobaganoosh88

if the pump has fluid in it and the truck is started whithout a whine it is the pump. if there is a whine while the pump is full it could be the rack and pinion, check the inner tie rod boots for sign of leaking fluid. if there is wetness, your steering rack has failed.

@@bobaganoosh88 i just bought a 2008 Chevy trailblazer LS he runs great! Took it on the highway a couple times, but when i start it up . it makes a whining noise, an when i accelerate it does also kind of sounds like a whining noise mixed with the sound of the wind blowing! Is it supposed to do that
@bobaganoosh88
@bobaganoosh88 4 года назад
@@roschelledavis1933 a very slight thrushing sound should be audible if there is a bit of a whine and the ps fluid level is still full, check your inner tie rod ends for signs of a leaking steering rack. a constant whine from your power steering system is a sign of a failing rack.
