In the last video, I went to my local junkyard and found a goldmine of parts for my daily driver which partially included the Volant Cold Air Intake and Taylor Throttle Body Spacer shown in this video. Tune in as I show you how to remove your restrictive factory intake and install an aftermarket cold air intake. This installation should be relatively the same for all 2002-2009 Chevy Trailblazers, GMC Enjoys, Oldsmobile Bravada, Buick Rainier, and Saab 9-7x.

Great video dude amazing score!! I wanted too go with K&N intake but i didn't like how it would look so went too Volant and they don't even sell them anymore! they only sell the filter and it's almost as much as a K&N filter! So I went with Spectre I will be installing it today. I wish I could get one like yours!
@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 4 года назад
That’s awesome. I recommend using that spectre filter with the OEM air filter housing. You’ll probably have to gut the plastic from within the factory housing to make space for your new filter. But it will be much more functional rather than if you were to leave your new spectre filter exposed on the hot side of the engine bay. Hope this helps! Good luck with your install 🙂

@@lovellmills7959 I thought Volant stop making them until I just came off their website! Mines is a 2005 & they don't make one for my year but the 2006 looks just the same. I don't know if there's a hose to be blocked off under the intake tube but I think I can work with it👍🏿 I just took the stock muffler off a put a Dynomax from Summit Racing & it definitely made a difference in performance a bit & I picked up better gas mileage & I run 93 oct ! I'm looking to do the Cold air intake & Summit has a plug 'n play performance chip that will give an extra 35hp. @@MrBigR928 Yeah it's weird. No company makes a cold air intake for the 03 too 05. But 06-09 they did? Mine is a 2005 So I bought a Spectre filter installed it and left the air box cover off. Doing that it exposes the "intake resonator" (my God who tf ever at GM Designed that???) 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️ So I had too find a way too block it off. I thought about putting an exhaust on it but it dont make sense doing that kind of work on an inline 6. Plus mine is so clean my Trailblazer LTZ with 267K literally looks brand new from the factory underneath inside and out I Couldn't cut the exhaust up! I also have a 2003 Avalanche and for that one I did a Flowmaster Exhaust 😍 it's on my channel shorts if you'd like too check it out.
@DBZLEGENDS
@DBZLEGENDS 4 года назад
On mine I removed the resonator took a intake pipe from a junk blazer, cut and flipped it and used the temp sensor hole from the cut one for the vacuum line with a brass 1/2 pipe thread by 1/4 barb fitting. Then used a valve cover vent filter from auto zone, vacuum line adapter kit, extra vaccume line and 5/16 hose clamps. Cost about $30. I did not hollow out the air box the exhaust manifold is on the same side and the box won't be insulated from the heat to keep it cold. Same with the air feed tube under the grill.

@@PASSIONBUILT thanks I appreciate your reply. I have a picture of the mod but Facebook doesn't have the ability to post pictures in thread. If you take a stock airbox from the junk yard and hollow it and cut a scoop in the front it will be just like a Volant box. You would have to insulate it. I always tell people if you going to mod your stock stuff get extras from the junkyard.
@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 4 года назад
I completely agree with that. You can always grab extras from the junkyard for cheap in the event of a cut gone wrong. I actually mention in the video about other trailblazer owners gutting their factory housing in attempt to replicate the Volant housing.

My 05' Trailblazer EXT LT 5.3L doesn't have the inside closed off. I can compare it to a turtle shell cover. I do take that cover off during the hottest months here in Central Wisconsin which helps alot. I make sure to put it back on b4 the snow starts falling tho. I would like to take that obnoxious reservoir channel from the intake housing off at some point and allow it to be just a aluminum intake tube from the throttle body.

On the 4.2 models, the engine looks so weird without the factory resonator box installed. I don’t mind it too much.

What about the hose the drops off the front of the airbox and plugs into the evap system? Was there an extension or something?

At 00:47 of the video I mention that I plugged the air injection hose due to having a 2003 model. 2002-2003 did not have the air injection system. I removed this intake from a 2004 Trailblazer at my local auto salvage yard.

@@PASSIONBUILT ...I didn't mean the inlet on the intake. On the airbox...maybe my terminology is wrong...where "vortech" is written..there is a small hode that runs into the top of the block. That's the one I was speaking of
@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 4 года назад
@@rjlegacy38 There are 2 vacuum hoses that run from that resonator box that you're talking about. They both fit as they should with no issues even with the relocation. It's only about a half inch difference. Nothing too major. I can say the larger hose that runs from the breather on the valve cover to the resonator was a tighter fit than before the installation. But still installed using the factory hose.

Does the cold air intake help you save on gas for the trailblazer? What all have you noticed since you have installed it?
@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 2 года назад
Hey there. Honestly, the fuel economy didn’t change really. The most noticeable gain was the intake sound. But didn’t get much out of it performance wise. Probably with a tune from PCM of NC I would notice a change but as of now. Not too much of a difference in the drive. But for how much I paid for this set, which was like $10 or less. Definitely a cool upgrade! Lol

Good morning. I have a 2002 trailblazer LTZ and was looking to install a CAI. The Airaid is the one that keeps coming up for my model year, but I would much rather spend the extra on the Volant and have a sealed box. What year is yours and do you think I would not have any fitment issues if I did go with the Volant? Thank you for your time.
@PASSIONBUILT

Fitment should be the same. Just 04+models came with that secondary air system that I blocked off as you saw in the video.

@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 2 года назад
Did you delete your factory resonator that connects to the breather on the valve cover in install you CAI? If so. That’s your problem. If you’re using a cheap eBay intake kit that doesn’t utilize the factory resonator. There are a couple of problems. First being the issue you’re running into and the second being the metal intake pipes get heat soaked by the exhaust manifold. The kit I installed on my trailblazer from Volant retains the resonator and is made of plastic so it doesn’t get heat soaked.

I would love to know how beneficial the throttle body spacer actually was. Any actual gains in Horsepower or fuel economy??
@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 3 года назад
Hey Alan. Since I installed all of these parts at the same time it is difficult to tell if the throttle body spacer actually made any difference on it’s own. I honestly don’t think it did. Online you can read about a whining noise that throttle body spacers create and I can tell you that it does make a whine noise that is noticeable upon acceleration but you get used to it after a while. Overall, I wouldn’t pay the $75+ for one. But it sure was a cool part to find brand new in the box for free.
@Calango741
@Calango741 3 года назад
@@PASSIONBUILT Yeah, I'll bet it was. I have read so many conflicting opinions about whether a CAI really helps or not, that I can't help but be confused. If someone installs the type that does not seal out air from under the hood, I would think that it would actually make things worse with all that hot air coming off the engine and through the radiator. I'm not going to waste the money on a TB spacer, but I have been toying with the idea of a custom made enclosure for a CAI. I've also read a lot of comments that people are getting DTC's after putting in a CAI.
@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 3 года назад
CAIs on these are made differently. The kits that you see that have no air filter housing and have metal intake piping are not beneficial at all. The one that I installed from Volant is full plastic and has a complete enclosure for the air filter that has a larger opening for more airflow from where the factory air box would suck air from.
@MrGuitarguyadam
@MrGuitarguyadam Год назад
The only place where throttle body spacers do anything for performance is lower rpm’s. It’s not a seat if the pants feel that you can tell, but if your pulling a trailer or have it loaded down with your whole family in the back you would notice that it would take less effort/less throttle input to plug around in stop and go traffic. That is it, it does absolutely nothing else for the entire rest of the RPM range.

I have a 2005 gmc envoy. on the underside of the stock air pipe there is a connection leading towards the back of the engine. what's it for? I just ordered a cheap Ebay cai cause it was the same price as a replacement filter. it doesn't show the underside so im not sure if it has that connection on it or how to bypass it.

Intake and exhaust are always a great starting point. Depending on what state you live in. You could always delete cats as well. If you’ve already done the basic bolt-ons. You could have the heads ported and polished. That always makes for a nice upgrade but can be costly and isn’t as easy.

K&N is definitely a high quality brand and I love their products. But I got this set from a Trailblazer in the junkyard so I did not get to choose which brand. However, I will say. I do like this kit's design a bit better because it has the closed box housing for the filter. From the pictures I have seen online, K&N's cold air intake has a heat shield that surrounds the filter but doesn't completely seal it off from the heat coming off the header. But other than that both kits are very nice.
