That defense that year was scary. If the offense could of back them up, then they would been world champions. Remember watching that game. Was in 10th grade and then that summer wishing football season was on lol
1985 was absolutely insane. I lived in northern IL, west of Rockford, that year, and all of us were "Bear mad." But 2006 was a whole lot of fun, even with the loss in SB 41.
Thats crazy I was in 8th grade as well. I cried when they lost too. I was so sure they were gonna win. They deserved it so much, and so did us fans. I watched every game and i watched them all again on nfl replay, most exciting football ever played in the NFL. 85 bears was good but this team had so many special things happening all year. There will never be another devin hester...but now we have tarik cohen😁 space mountain here we come again💪☝🤜🤛🏋
@@Pariah_Larry What do you mean? The NFL has had outdoor super bowls since this one. They have had two in Miami, two in Tampa Bay, one in New York and one in San Francisco
True Bear fans always get emotional about Da Bears. I miss the teams and coaches of yesteryear, the entire game of football is going thru some not so good changes these days.
@@mr.mcmagpie6606 they had a blown coverage assignment with the wayne touchdown and gave up a touchdown late after the colts intercepted. You are so wrong before that interception the bears could of took the lead they were only down 22-17 . The bears couldn't move the ball the entire game the defense kept them in the game
I Still remember an amazing stat I heard during this season. At the halfway point when they were 7-1, they had the best point differential of any team in history after 8 games
joemomma yeah, those were two devastating losses. Our best player on the d line and our best player in our secondary we really needed them to beat indy.
@@TTSCAM Mike Brown had an outstanding football mind. If only his body could have matched his football IQ. He really is a great example of "what-if." And although I vaguely remember Tommie Harris slipping somewhat in 2006, that could have been because of him being hurt. I could be wrong but that's what I remember. I do wonder how things would be different if Harris and Brown had been at full strength. But injuries happen and a team has to overcome them.
I was in 5th grade during the 2006 season and I still remember how incredible every game was. Best season i have ever seen. The Cardinals game was nuts on MNF! The Super Bowl was also crazyyyyyy
The closest we ever got to 1985. By far the best team in the 2000's. It was unfortunate the offense could not stay on the field in the Superbowl to give the defense a break. Payton Manning ripped us apart in the second half. I tip my hat off to Manning. As devastated as I was, I was still happy Manning got one. Unfortunately, it was against us.
Super Bowl XLI was the first ever football I saw. I was 13, I was in 7th grade at the time. Seeing Devin Hester return that opening kickoff for a touchdown was an awesome experience.
This season happened the year I was born. Just living with my dad I became a bears fan around 6 years old and I've had nothing but heartbreak ever since I wish I could have seen this 😭
Ya right , just sell Bear history for the new USA? Greedy owners and to many darn rules in this league, end result, fans being disgruntled, team owners that don’t know anything, to bad the greed has found its way to players now!
What’s even more remarkable about the 2006 win was that the Dolphins were able to snap the streak in Chicago-cold weather doesn’t deter teams hungry for a win!
@@WFM WHich is sad. I mean look how many teams have 5, 6, 7 super bowls and we cannot even win two in all these decades. Even hick town Greenbay has much more success than big city Chicago
This Bears team was special to me because it had smart, solid guys up and down the roster who didn't make mistakes. They had superstars, yes, particularly Urlacher and Hester, but the rest of team was full of smart, consistent players who may not have been stars but who didn't make mistakes. Kreutz, Jones, Des Clark, Alex Brown, Ogunleye, Briggs, Peanut Tillman, Ricky Manning, and ROBBIE GOULD. Yes, the kicker was a LARGE part of the team's success that year. Had Mike Brown and Tommie Harris not gotten injured, they would have been the second coming of the 85 Bears.
I remember watching the cardinals game at 9 years old with my pops. We were almost in tears watching that last drive and waiting for the field goal. So lucky he missed lol
I was In 6th grade this year. My dad got us tix to the Super Bowl and I remember when Hester returned it we were all going nuts. After the game though I cried the whole car ride from Miami Back to the Northwest suburbs of Chicago lol.
Now this is what happens when the Bears do not play the Super Bowl in the land of Jennifer. However the Bears were flat out dominant in the regular season. They won a majority of their games in the land of Jennifer, but the Seahawks made it interesting in the divisional playoff. The Bears let the Saints come marching in up in the land of Jennifer, but when it was over the Saints went limping out. Ballgame over. Bears win. Super Bowl bound.
It’s so random to me that this bears team made the super bowl. As a non bears fan I had to do research to find out they were a very balanced team. Wanted them to beat the colts
Whenever the Bears find success, it’s never because of a great offense-it’s ALWAYS because of a phenomenal defense (specifically featuring LBs like Singletary/Urlacher and edge rushers like Dent/Mack), a capable running game, and great special teams. It will be interesting to see if the formula can be repeated to another Super Bowl title in today’s pass-happy NFL with rules mostly geared against defense...
Yes the NFL is geared to offense. Cold winters in Chicago and being on Lake Michigan makes passing the football so difficult! That is a big reason why the BEARS never had great QBs.
Is sucks that Rogers owns Chicago Bears cause Rogers wasn't there in Green Bay the DaBears will own the NFC North Division and be in the playoffs every year........"DaBears34"
Man I will never forget this year or the super bowl and how freaking sad I was after. Grossman actually had a very good year considering his size issue. If he was as tall as Cutler he would have been a great qb. (At 14:04 look at the dudes shoes, he has his 13s *Jordan's turned into cleats lol)
Indeed this was a great season with a very painful ending unfortunately!!!!!! If Cutler Bears had the 06 o line we would’ve definitely won a few championships. We should of stuck with what got us there in the championship game a heavy dose of Thomas Jones sprinkled with a lil Benson and then hit them with Rex play action. The Bears game plan had Rex out there throwing the ball like he was Manning.
Devin Hesters opening kick return for a TD just goosebumps and chills...after i saw that i honestly thought the bears were destined to win...but peyton manning found a way
Bears sent 8 players to the Pro Bowl (x2 offensive, x3.defensive, and x3 specialists) and some even to the All Pro teams that same year.. The team was literally a QB away from being the most perfect Champion ever. But we were stuck with Jekyll & Hyde "quarterback" Rex Grossman, and suspended NT Tank Johnson / injured DT Tommie Harris leading up to that Super Bowl Sunday. They all deserved better and for the many HOF's or RoH players / coaches, I just wish they'd gotten that Ring... Bear Down (1,2,3 Space Mountain!)
Why does no one mention the epic game the 2006 Seahawks and Bears had in the divisional round playoffs that year ? That was ONE helluva game! Bears got the win in OT, definitely the best playoff game that year …
That was definitely an underrated playoff game. I'll have to disagree that it was the best playoff game that year, though. That one will have to go to the Patriots, Colts AFC Championship Game.
I remember watching the night game against the Seahawks. The TD pass to Berrian (6:30) was the smoothest-looking play... I thought to myself "They're going to the Super Bowl this season." Sadly, the wheels seemed to start coming off the wagon for Grossman during the Monday Night game against Arizona. It was a shame because he looked dynamite for the first five games of the 2006 season, and was the NFC offensive player of the month for September of '06.
Man if only the Bears would have signed Kurt Warner instead of Brian Griese. If that happens the Bears win the Super Bowl against the Colts. After the 2005 season when the Bears went with Orton all year they knew they needed a veteran backup behind Grossman because he keeps getting hurt all the time. They went with Brian Griese. If we had Kurt Warner there's no way he doesn't come in at some point during the season when Grossman's having one of his bad Rexgames. I mean look at what Warner did without a great defense like the Bears had just a few years later in Arizona. Warner took Arizona to a Super Bowl like I said with not so great of a defense in Arizona. With how good are defense was and are running game was that year there's no way we don't beat the Colts in the Super Bowl if we have Warner instead of Grossman. We had a chance to but chose Brian freaking greasy. Smh
I like how during the bears vs cardinals highlights, the camera cuts to Rex Grossman after each defensive touchdown as if to say "you're freakin useless"
I wonder if the Bears could've won against the New England Patriots in the superbowl that year if the Colts would've lost to the pats in the Afc championship
I squarely place the blame for this Super Bowl loss on Lovie Smith. Refusing to make defense adjustments, taking Thomas Jones out of the game, and so on. Lovie allowed himself to be outcoached, and he was either too stubborn to do anything about it, or he was comfortable with it.
To many haters on Grossman he had a good season,in top 4 QBs in the league, and they had a weak lineman(O) and by end of the season they had an Oline that could be considered no better than decent, lot of people forget Benson was on this team
Robert H There will probably not be another Mike Ditka, another Walter Payton, another Gary Fencik, another Richard Dent, another Mike Singletary, another Wilbur Marshall, another Jim McMahon, another Willie Gault, another Dennis McKinnon, another Keith Van Horne, another Jay Hilgenburg, another Tom Thayer, another Steve McMichael, another Dennis Gentry, another Shaun Gayle, another Dave Duerson .......
Robert H The only things that Chicago will ever have in terms of a sports dynasty are likely the Bulls and the Blackhawks. The Sox and the Cubs and the Bears will most likely be one and done.
No 1985 defense was great not the 2006 defense-- Something named prhill made this -- totally UNFAIR comment --- that mid 80s team was repeatedly exploited in the secondary -- pass rush made all the difference back then and even there they had to usually line up 8 men on Line of scrimmage
