It was the most overrated 'rivalry' in sports history. The Knicks won ONE playoff game ever in Chicago. What was so great about a matchup where the outcome felt preordained?
This was the era of real basketball and physicality. Not what we have today with players like LeQueen flopping and crying every other play for fouls that wouldn’t even be called back then.
I have a strong feeling that '97 Knick squad was more than good enough to beat Miami in 6 games if not for that major sespension taking away the entire starting 5.Plus they had fucking Van Gundy ,who wasn't effective as t1997he 🐐 Pat Riley...I still think the Knicks pushed Chicago to 7 like in '92 East semis but I see Chicago waking away again with east crown
@@OjParker-gl4ec i agree...i think if not for the suspensions, the Knicks win that Gm 6 and move on to face Chicago. I still don't think they were beating MJ and the Bulls tho, but it woulda been a fight, like all the Knicks-Bulls wars were in the 90s. Prob woulda went 6 or 7 games, Bulls winning. Miami showed in their performance, they didn't belong in that 97 ECF. that series was weak as fuck and kinda boring if u ask me...bulls shoulda swept
That's a vague statement. The NBA is constantly evolving so saying one era is better is pretty objective. The 80s revived ratings The 90s was a step up in performance The 2000s was a stylized flashy era The 10s was the superteam era And now is constantly evolving
@@maxwellnelson4868 evolving? some think devolving since fundamental skills like post ups, mid range shots , boxing out, physical defense (crowding the shooter for example) are no longer present.. I dont watch today's "evolved" NBA anymore.. It's boring TO ME, and well, ratings are at an all time low and have been in a decline since Jordan left.. You go enjoy what YOU want, and let US enjoy what WE want.
@@soramirez5473 That is an objective opinion. You have a point in the boxing out and mid-range shooting. However I think the game will be evolving. You never know maybe the steal would be new common static.
@@soramirez5473 Tell me about it Baseball is like old people porn Football is kinda redeckish And the NBA is mostly chuck 3s and no damn defense. I remember the Late 2000s when defense was what you needed to win. Now defense is like DLC nowadays Try Rugby that is pretty fun to watch if you are interested
Sorry NY Knicks , May b in a different era u might have dominated but unfortunately u came up against one of the greatest team like Chicago Bulls in their prime and it's turn out pretty ugly for a long long period of time in a raw poor Knicks. Besides, the lady of luck never smile at This Knicks team!!! For instance, when MJ took a first retire and they finally beat the Bulls when the big brother wasn't around in the playoff and march on to the NBA final to faced Houston Rockets then get a lil cocky thinking they got this in their pocket but turned out pretty hideous and nasty as Vernon MAxwell,Ahkeem Olajuwan and co buried them to grave!!! and in the 7th game Starks played absolutely sHiT!!!! My favorite moment on this rivalry was in game 5 of 1993 playoff when Pippen denied a cocky Charles Smith and shock the crowd in Madison square garden,,,love it!!!! Well done Knicks
No offense, but despite the intensity, this isn't a rivalry. Yes, I know The Knicks owned The Bulls at times during the regular season. During the 1st 3 peat I know NY and Phoenix had better records than Chicago. Chicago won 57 games to New York's 60 and The Suns 62 in the regular season. They took The Bulls to 7 games in the playoffs one year, and won the first 2 playoff games against Chicago that year they had the better record, but The Bulls came back to win 4 straight. My point, when it mattered, and it was the playoffs The Bulls with MJ always came out on top. They only beat The Bulls one year, that was the year Jordan had retired. The Bulls owned them, and they knew they were better. Pippen even said, they believed they could beat The Knicks even without Michael. At times regular season games meant more to NY than it did to Chicago. Bulls would coast while The Knicks played the games like playoff games. They year they only won 57 games with the third best record in the NBA, they were just coasting, waiting for the playoffs in a long long season.
@@josephdelledonne2098 not a rivalry? when tightly contested, physical games are played between teams multiple years in the playoffs, a rivalry forms. did you watch the games? how many went to the wire? how many were blow outs? yea.. the games are here on youtube.. almost ALL the games went to the wire and the bulls were pushed to the limits.. rivalry.. yea.. a one sided rivalry, but a rivalry non the less.
