The 63rd Street is one of the main roads on the southside of Chicago. It runs through many neighborhoods like Woodlawn, Washington Park, Englewood, West Englewood, Chicago Lawn, West Lawn and so on.
Back in the day, 50 to 60 years ago, 63rd and Kedzie was the downtown of the Southwest Side. Now, it seems that most of the buildings there are either torn down or abandoned. My mom and grandmother used to go shopping there all the time. When they put that giant statue of an Indian on top of the building at 63rd & Pulaski, more than a few of us thought it was in bad taste, and an eyesore. Now it appears to be something of a landmark.
I like your videos, because I lived many years and worked in Chicago. I now live in California, but my best years were spent in Chicago and the suburbs. Thank you 👍👌👏🏼👏🏼
What a trip down memory lane. Right near the end they passed 63rd and Kolin. I lived at 59th and Kolin. When I was 3 years old and just arrived in the neighborhood I wandered off and ended up at the drug store that was on the corner of 63rd and Koilin. The guy who owned the drug store who looked like Clark Kent found me and called the cops. They picked me up and took me to the police station where eventually my parents showed up to claim me. The cops gave me ice cream and it was all good. I joined the Air Force in 1968 and ended up in California. Thanks for the video it was great.
I live in Bridgeport now but still crave Palermo’s on 63rd & Hamlin. When I go, I usually take Halsted south to 63rd and 63rd west. You’re not lying, literally as soon as you hit that viaduct, it’s a very noticeable difference.
63rd st in Englewood is dangerous. Butbyouncan tell at one time there was a shopping corridor there. Last time I went by there, it was very desolate. Like a post apocalyptic movie set. #quadstatecameras
4:10- My DULLES!! 4:55- They tore down the 220 building where I lived as a kid, between Indiana and Prairie. 8:10- I almost missed Englewood High 🦅 “Englewood, up to no good” lol, because of the hospital (wasn’t there back then). What happened to the El station on Halsted?? I didn’t go west of Ashland then. It was at my own risk. Thanks, driving dude!!
@@drivingdude8849 Yeah I agree - it's some of those side streets & alleys that can be sketchy! Always watch & enjoy your videos & look forward to more! Ever thought of doing one circling the main roads around O'Hare like Touhy (North side), River Rd. (East side), Irving Park (South) & York Rd (West side)? Thank You!!
@@hiway51biker Actually, I did think about it. I will try to do it soon if the weather is relatively nice. Sun light makes a huge difference in this kid of videos. So we will see how it goes but I definitively have it on my mind.
@@hiway51biker In Clearing, The western part of Midway Airport there's still alot of Poles, but it's getting new arrivals, mostly Mexicans and Ukrainians. So change is happening. That neighborhood is safest part of 63rd. Zero homicides i believe and i don't think they've had one in years
