I hate to sound like my dad, but the music of today doesn't hold a candle to groups like Chicago. Their brass section was phenomenal. They have always ranked as one of my all-time favorite bands.
All those hard work for us to entertain and not for the sake of money. Dang how the fuck we go from this kind of masterpiece to the shitty ass garbage music of today
One of their best songs. Can trash the ballad and cheesy words all you want but the actual music is amazing, and the transition to "get away" is awesome.
Peter has a very strong voice for a tenor singer...one of the strongest ever. It can start sounding weak after performing several songs in a concert. He is a very rare talent with something incredible like a 5 octave vocal range in his prime.
Uh... make that 2 1/2: G2 - C#4 Song with the LOWEST pitch: Glory of Love (G2-C4) Song with the HIGHEST pitch: (I Wanna Take) Forever Tonight (G#2-C#4)
Fascinating. I can't sing or know anything about singing. I'm a drummer. Just curious if you were someone may answer this question for me. This seemed to be a prevalent practice in the 80s and 90s. What was it called exactly towards the end of the song where they would go up (I guess an octave?) while singing the same words, I'm assuming for dramatic effect, but it seemed to become a staple for a long time in pop songs.
The Chicago brass section now don't get as many chances to show their stuff as they did in the old days, but this video shows how well they can still rock! Talented men indeed.
That's one heck of an amazing horn section! The trombonist is absolutely on fire during "Get Away." I also like how the brass even did their little "doink" at 4:15.
You are so right Scoobgoose. I'm 71 and I still love pop music. Rock and roll is still with me and when I hear it my arthritis screams "Oh no, just don't go there" so I resist dancing with the sweeping brush. Music is ephemeral.
I saw them in Charlotte, N. C. back in the early '80s. I went to see them play this song and they did! The warm-up-band was Santana. Wow, what a combo of greatness! For Chicago's last set Santana come back on the stage and the groups combined to play each other's songs! Can you imagine the sound and talent on that stage?
damn, four men on keyboards! Peter's voice, heart melting perfection. Chris Pinnick's solo - Gorgeous Getaway-Showstopper. Peter's behind; the finest. WOW!
Exactly! Four keyboards playing is practically unheard of in any group, especially one with vocals. A jazz or electronic music group perhaps, but nothing like this.
I SAW THEM AT IRVINE MEADOWS WITH MY FAMILY, WHEN PETER CETERA INFORMED THE AUDIENCE THAT THIS SONG WAS GOING TO BE IN THE MOVIE "SUMMER LOVERS", BEFORE THE MOVIE CAME OUT. I LOVE CHICAGO AND THE WILL ALWAYS BE THE ALL TIME BEST GROUP EVER. EVERY CONCERT THAT I HAVE ATTENDED, THEY HAVE A FULL HOUSE, & EVERYONE THERE ARE FROM EVERY GENERATION FROM THE TIME THEY STARTED AND ALL THE WAY TO 06/06/2011. PETER CETERA WILL ALWAYS BE THE ORIGINAL VOICE OF CHICAGO & TERRY KATH THE LEAD GUITARIST!
Timeless! one thing about songs of their generation, is you can feel the songs in your gut, and they mean so much more. That's what this generation will never seem to accomplish. Songs now can be good, but there is nothing that I can say I will feel in my soul and 30 or 40 years from now. Chicago!
Good Evening! What a voice. He make beautiful music 🎶. You just have to listen to him Carefully. He made whoever special he sings feel ten times as special. Marlene Toledo Grayson
@@kelliefrancis2433 His bank account is not that empty. The area in Idaho where he lives is super-expensive and he has at least two homes there. But I do agree that a voice like that doesn't come along very often. It's rare and amazing...When you put your headphones on, you think that you are in great-voices heaven.
I saw Chicago live once in 1979 in New Zealand. First concert I ever went to. Loved it. They unexpectedly played the Beatles "Got To Get You into my life" and with all the necessary brass plus Pete Cetera's tenor vocals they did a great version of it. Even better was that another music festival was on at the same time and most of the hoons had gone there meaning that Chicago concert was relaxed and uncrowded.
Bigest respect Peter and The Guys. It's real stuff, maybe not the same as years ago though but a real MAN behind mike, not a fakin mime artist.Bigest respect ! Love that song
I'm glad this includes "Get Away", which IS a part of the tune. So many DJS, as well as VJS make the mistake of not including "Get Away" when they play this. Thanks, guys!
This beautiful song, always gets to me. It touches my heart, and stirs my emotions. a masterpiece, and timeless classic. real music at it's very best. LOL .
I heard this song on retro radio quite recently. The performers were very impressed!!! I will definitely look for albums!!! Very song penetrated into the soul!!!
I remember being transfixed in the theater when this song came on during 'Summer Lovers'(Darryl Hannah, Valerie Quinnessen & Peter Gallagher) in 1982/3. and when it took off w/the Get Away segment I was effin blown away. Remember that jam like it was yesterday! Thanks for the post.
What a song to Europe! Hear the piano/synths. Wonderful song in a 5 minutes with the brass section( in fact i could not stand the brass away in 1982 ;-). But in 2009.....this is really wonderful. Thank you this is really 1982.
I saw them back in the early 90's minus Cetera, but it was great. The trombone player performed at that concert. The horns are what makes Chicago such a great band.
@@samanasif6042 great performer, musician, arranger: Great qualities! His intense jealousy of Peter Cetera lead him to being a bitter old man with a thriving grudge. Bad character flaw!
The first time I heard this was in the movie "Summer Lovers" where they used the whole thing. I, too, was disappointed every time they didn't play it all on the radio.
Growing up, i thought it was a decent song.... until the first time I heard the full song with the "Get Away" outro... then, it became legendary to me ! 😁
They should go on one more tour with original members plus someone subbing for the irreplaceable Terry Kath, give the fans what they want. Come on guys
@TheCanadianWest Peter's jaw was hit in a bar room brawl once. Got it wired and his way of singing started and the rest is history. Truly unique. The one and only.
Looks like at this point in their career they still had all of the original members onboard with the exception of Mr. Kath (sadly). I like how they repeated the ending!
Jeraldine Asuncion Make sure you listen to Chicago Transit Authority before Terry Kath died. Totally different sound before Peter Cetera took over doing leads.
+Casparus Kruger While it is an amazing piece of work and sadly cut off from radio play nowadays, I'd have to say the song "Along Comes a Woman" was their last terrific piece.
great video. i saw chicago twice in the last 12 months, still a great band but i have to say Peter's voice does take me back to when this song first came out.
