I live near Tent City. The reason nobody goes there is fear/anxiety. To my knowledge, there hasn't been any violent incidents, but it's a wealthy neighborhood and nobody wants to risk it. The fact 25% of these homeless are working and still can't get a home, is the problem. My great-grandma grew up in Chicago during the depression and told me about the hoovervilles/tentcities and I don't want to regress to that time.

I'm currently homeless been for like a half a year and looks like I will for another half a year due to my sister in law crashing my vehicle. She had hers reprocessed and need to get to work. Knowing I was homeless and all my belongings in my car she crashed it said the breaks went out (which I just had it inspected, new tires, new engine, fresh oil change). Now she and my brother won't let me stay with them just threw me out on the street literally right after they crashed it. I say up watch out for your own family because they are the one's that make up 90% homelessness. Family will do you more dirty than anyone else would even knowing your the more nicest loving person in the family. Homelessness will make you stronger if you don't let the your mind feelings take over, don't think about just grind. Affordable housing would be nice, or more rest stops or more make places like hotel pods/cubes like in japan where you pay 11$ for a 3-4hr stay, then just add a laundry mat too it and add like public pool showers too the pod stays as well 💡 Thank me later Chicago ❤️🙏🏻

In theory, that’s perfect and I agree! However, the reality is, a much larger problem. Example, many of these people are homeless because they’re mentally unstable. Many can’t take care of themselves, let alone a tiny house. Many are drug addicts. Being homeless is just one way to combat structure. That’s why many don’t want to be in shelters. They refuse to follow the rules of the shelters. Not to mention, many of these shelters are being ran by shot callers (mini gangs) within the shelter and they get extorted.

you have 3 groups of people that are homeless, 1, people that are just simple down on luck many of these are willing to live in a shelter of temp housing. 2, people that have mental issues due to an accident or drug abuse, most of these people will not stay in any government shelter as of the rules. 3. People with current alcohol and drug abuse. again most of these will not stay in any facility until they get clean up. as they don't want to follow rules. I say help those that want it and provide a zone for the rest to set up their tents that don't want to follow the rules. I have met many homeless that want to be homeless and don't want the responsibility. I have talked to them on the street to try to understand their situation and the number one thing I found was many did not want to follow rules, don't want responsibility of any kind, and did not want to work, they just wanted to exist. For those people, the cities need to find an undeveloped lot on the edge of town and set up a clinic, sanitation stations, and a few offices/security personnel to monitor and let them move there. give them a 10x10 or 15x15 square with a number (address). we see this with migration camps all the time, yes not the best idea but it's fast and easy to set up. and allow them to come and go as they please. this is the main reason these people don't stay in shelters. rules

With all due respect, I would offer the suggestion of placing a formal governmental cap on rental costs throughout the city of Chicago and the state of Illinois and start the practice off in the city of Chicago, IL first, and then branch the practice outwardly overtime in a customized manner as time passes and only within certain areas of the city yet on all four sides of the city where it is needed the most as to avoid areas where it is not necessary so as to not step on the toes of those neighborhoods that are healthy and strong and vibrant and for the most part are seemingly independent and self sufficient of them selves and so as to ensure the caps useful and not being shoved upon those whom feel that it is not necessary for there particular neighborhoods,. The rental caps should be block by block and not community by community, so as to ensure that it's more useful and not at all bulliesh, and old large apartment building's should be tuned into permanent transient/treatment shelters and rehabbed cheaply in reference to labor by way of physically able body homeless potentials looking to reside,. Utilizing city tax shelters and discounted but sound professional skilled rehabbers to do the complete work of all the potential shelter sites,. Surely the civilized amongst us all can see that this is an hellish site and it needs and should be addressed in an most expedient manner and not just swept under the rug sort of speaking, less it becomes worse and worse,. Like some of the other cities in our great country,. Let's remember whom we are THE great city of Chicago, (THE CITY OF BIG SHOULDERS. THE TRULY EXEMPLARY CITY ). Property Taxes, Sales taxes,, Gas Taxes, Hotel rental taxes...etc. Government Deregulation from the Federal, State, County and City levels is the answer. As long as you have to depend on a Government program to live you will never be able to afford to live on your own as a free citizen. Affordable means people who have a little money to be able to pay something a person that's homeless or in transition has no money so the only housing that they can afford is just plain out free housing which would mean that it would need to incorporate some sort of training program that would allow them to obtain some sort of position that will allow them to pay for affordable housing but the initial housing would just have to be free housing just free and then that in itself would need filters and a lot of oversight to make sure things weren't being stolen or poorly manage and people weren't damaging property

*In Europe* rent increases are limited to 2% above the rate of inflation *ONLY.* _In Mexico it is illegal to raise anyone's rent more than 5% per year!_ In the civilized countries of Canada and Europe guns are outlawed, citizen cannot be made homeless due to an unexpected $500 medical expense, free college educations are provided so predatory student loan debt does not make people homeless, and the global w@rming that is causing the destruction of housing, leading to 40% rent raises; is being addressed.

The ones in the long term homeless are their because of their choice. With so much help from private and public help. They need more then a roof. they need mental treatment, drug or alcohol or just life skills to hold a job. things that where lost or never had in their current situation.

This approach will only work when available printed money is continuously shoveled out on a regular basis...and once the homeless from other locations hear the good news about chicago, more money/subsidies etc will be demanded...at one point is wont be sustainable/doable...but for now all is well!

P B of Parts A-F The B!den administration has proposed *Christian, compassionate,* homeless solutions *but Republicans* do not want the FEMA homeless encampments within their cities; which *have the highest number of homeless families.* The solution is FEMA coordinated homeless communities a 30 minute bus ride, 24/7, every 20 minutes, from the FEMA established homeless shelters; to the city. *Established on land made vacant due to global-warming extreme weather events; that no one should rebuild on.* P

*This is the cause of the national homelessness epidemic, which can be solved; not drugs.* _Hurricane Katrina_ August 29, 2005: With maximum sustained winds of 175 mph the storm killed a total of 1,833 people and left millions *HOMELESS* in New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Catastrophic-runaway-anthropogenic-global-warming [CRAGW] destroys homes, which causes rent increases, which creates more homeless people making only $11 an hour with no healthcare or dental benefits.

Yea this is sad but also please don’t act like there is no hope for these people. A year ago I was homeless sleeping from couch to couch. I finally got out of my depression, got a job, got my own apartment a few months after that. Been living on my own for about 6 months now. It’s truly not an issue of resources bc Chicago has many. It’s an issue of learned helplessness. I have talked to many homeless people. Once you get their story it becomes clear that many of them have accepted their life for what it is. Being sad about it will never change it. You need to move your ass and make a change! I work my ass off everyday of the week to live on my own but rather do that then sleep outside everyday.

*Paragraph 2 of 2.* Going forward the Christian way to meet the need to house those made homeless by no fault of their own. Is to live like Native Americans who would pick up and move their entire village to follow the buffalo; or in the year 2024 to avoid runaway-AGW caused home destroying events. This means either building _Pallet Shelter's_ homeless village shelters and component on trailers. Or because they can be put up and taken down in one hour. Taken down and hauled away on trucks to avoid the floods that will be 3 feet higher than they are today. Amen.

When Monkeypox hits the homeless population, there will be more $$ to throw at the homeless situation. Here's a suggestion: Pair up compatible homeless people that are employed and get them into shared housing. That's a start.

How can anyone call this a comprehensive push to address homelessness without even MENTIONING addiction and mental illness? Why are funds WASTED on fancy finishes on large units? I CAN see buying "beat up" buildings with tiny efficiency units, cleaning them up and making sure they are functional and using them to house folk.
@modusoperandi8404
@modusoperandi8404 2 года назад
P Unfortunately for millions of Americans in order to survive, those made homeless, *due to failed Republican polices,* will have to lower their standard of living dramatically and live in modest accommodations. Such as _Pallet Shelter's_ *Shelter 64* which sleeps two in a private cabin. Placed in combination with _Pallet Shelter's_ other components: *Community Room,* Bathroom, and Services Office; to form an entire *Homeless Shelter Village* [HSV]. Where the rent paid to FEMA for the 2 person shelter is 10% of net income; and 20% for the four person shelter. Which goes to providing _one free meal a day_ and *childcare* so that the working poor can go to work: in the Community Room. Amen.
