I was 11 years old when I bought their first album CTA. It has changed my musical life since that day. After all these years I still get the goosebumps when I listen to them. I like all their music through the years. Their music has so much texture, depth and layers that you can never get sick of it. Chicago’s music will live through eternity.
About 25 years ago I personally called the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and asked the woman that answered the phone why Chicago hadn’t been inducted yet. She said that they hadn’t been nominated. I nominated them that second. She thought I was joking. Artists and bands that you have never heard of had been inducted before them. It’s a scar on the Hall of Fame. Shame on them for waiting so long to put Chicago in the Hall of Fame.
Chicago fan forever! And Terry Kath lives in our hearts, loyal fans. Terry was the soul of Chicago, the leader, the greatest guitar player with a unique manly voice. Unforgettable.
I have loved Chicago since I was a kid. This is one of my favorite bans that I grew up listening to! I still listen to their music and love it to this good day and will always love CHICAGO (Transit Authority).
I am a Michiana Hoosier. Like many others from there, we'd go to Chicago ILL regularly for events, to see museums, Christmas shopping, etc. We'd also go to Rush street and hit the themed bars. Just as we entered the lobby of a Latin-themed bar, I saw two guys in suits come out of nowhere pulling out their guns and grab and handcuff two Latino guys. Two Latino women, dressed to the Nines, started screaming their heads off. It was like it was right out of a movie. I didn't see any cameras. I told my wife "Let's get the hell out of here."
Just love the music, don't get wrapped up in who's not still in the band. Loving the music is a tribute to former members like the genius of Terry Kath
If he was the guitarist, too bad he was not thoroughly trained about guns. People are taught there is always one bullet left in the chamber. Also, gun action gets stuck. Monkeying around, by accident he blew his brains out. So terrible, what a waste of human life, tragic. No one talks of Blood, Sweat, and Tears. Of the initial era, they were very good. BS&T had good charting songs, an explosive drummer, and a great vocalist also.
I am 60 years old and the music of chicago opened that wonderful door of sounds and percussions of jazz and rock when I was only 12 years old. Forever will be in my heart and memory and, Now More Than Never: Oh, Thank you Great Spirit for allowing me to share time and space with this wonderful band. Thank you very much Chicago, Thank you very much Danny, Peter, Walter, Robert, Lee, James and Terry. I hope this message reaches every one of you and wherever you are, Terry. With love. How can they sound better than ever when Terry karth and Peter cetera are not in the band anymore. It was shameful how Peter was forced out of the band because of jealousy
Chicago was an innovative music maker during their first two or three years, the most popular American band until shortly before Kath accidentally killed himself in 1978, and a commercial money machine until Cetera left in 1985. Since that time, they've been a self-tribute band, albeit a very good one.
+Robert G. How do you figure a "self-tribute band" when new releases are still being produced that are NOT "greatest hits" albums? Since 1985, we have: 18, 19, Twenty 1, Night & Day Big Band, XXV, XXVI, XXX, XXXII, XXXIII, and XXXVI. I didn't include anything that was a "Greatest Hits", even if it included new material. If I did, then The Box, Love Songs, and probably a few others would be included.
All of their chart hits after Cetera left were written by non band members, and for the past three decades they have only played their hits from the Kath and/or Cetera era.
@@RCGoetzke tis true. Cetera was the man with the voice who wrote the songs - when nobody else could do it - that finally took them to stratospheric success. Poor guy was forced out; some brotherhood, just like Danny being kicked out. Warner records refused to promote Peter for ten years when he went solo. Can you imagine? Hog-tying that passion, talent and musicality for a ten year virtual exile on non-representation even though he was under contract w/ those sadists (Warner)? Yet he STILL overcame the dirty trick Warner arses forced on him and continued writing one hit song after another. Love the band, can't accept their hypocrisy, lies and digs against former band members.
I love Chicago from the first time I saw them live at Auditorium in Chicago. I was an Andy Frain usher and Terry was tuning his guitar and I said Mr. Kath you're the greatest guitarist and my favorite. He laughed with a kind of high pitched and then in his deep bass voice he said Thank you. I remember camping out at old Stadium to get 25 tickets for the Chicago Beachboy concert...one of their best along with Earth, Wind, & Fire concert outdoors at Tinley Park, Il. I was a gaffer there. I said this year it's about time they're inducted into Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. Finally they get the ultimate reward as well as TERRY KATH's being recognized as a great guitarist and musician. Everytime they're in town in Chicago I see them play. Too bad Pete Cetera has an EGO issue but it is what it is. I also miss Demon Dogs Mr. Schivarelli. I lived in area for 20 yrs. Great hot dogs...shakes and Chicago's Band memorabilia. GOD BLESS YOU ALL...NOW & FOREVER
I love watching this video over and over before I sleep because I want to see Lou Pardini ,extremely handsome...his charm defies his age...too perfect to be human....
my mom saw them at the Stardust Lounge in Rockford Il. 20 years later, I would discover them on the radio, buy every..single....album and had the incredible experience of seeing them live 3 times with Terry Kath and all the original members. they were the best band I have ever heard and I've seen and heard them all.
"Chicago" (now known as Chicago II) was one of the first albums I ever bought. "25 or 6 to 4" pulled me in, the "Ballet" made me a lifetime fan. Finally got to see the band around 1996, it was a great show. That horn section just gets me "right here". But the thing that just blows me away today is experiencing this music all over again by following Leonid & Friends on RU-vid. It sounds new and fresh, as if was written today and performed for the first time, not 50 years ago. Who knows, maybe we will experience a "Russian wave" of great classic rock that will inspire a new generation of American kids to discover their roots?
Just watched the film yesterday. Started out interesting and (almost too) fast-paced, but it was often confusing who was who and who was talking as it proceeded, especially in a band with no real high-profile frontmen (along upwards of 20 ubiquitous Roman-numeraled, title-less albums), and with the wealth of interspersed historical film clips and images at different ages with various hairstyles and beards! The last third of the film devolved into a rather sad story of blame, finger-pointing, and "we can do this forever" fear of letting go of the past or breaking out of that original CTA mould. I loved the early group and it's output, but this film covered far too much territory, and sometimes not very clearly at all. No wonder more than a few associated with the band opted out of participating or no-showed the R&R hall of fame induction (and Chicago inducted with NWA? What a joke!).
Although this segment flashed a photo of founding member Peter Cetera when discussing former members of Chicago and Terry Kath in particular, there was no mention of Peter's name. I assume this omission was agreed to by all parties involved, in light of Peter's importance in the development and success of the band. Keep going, guys.
I noticed that too. I assumed the band said "We don't agree to this interview if you are going to talk about Peter Cetera." Unfortunately, for them, he IS/WAS the voice of Chicago.
It was not an amicable split. Cetera didn't even show for the R+R hall induction. They were supposed to play, but they couldn't agree on even playing one song together, so Cetera didn't even show. It's too bad, I don't blame anyone, there's just some bad blood.

This was enjoyable little time trip, good footage etc. Story got spoiled at the end by them fucking the drummer over because Foster said so. Tech/electro drums - ya they lasted about 2 weeks. When Foster had nearly written the horns out, the drummer didn't say ... kick them out. Only one of those remaining guys seemed to get that.
+Radwulf Eboraci I'm confused, as well. "fucking the drummer over because Foster said so" Danny Seraphine has stated in an interview that he was the one who brought in David Foster. He encouraged it. He also programmed a lot of the electric drums, again, by his own admission. So how did Foster do anything? David Foster isn't even a partner in the band. He's an employee, hired to produce.
Pound for pound, the original Chicago may be the the most talented band ever. They had hit after hit after hit and have lasted for decades because they are the real deal: They can play & sing & write. But to me, the most amazing thing about them wasn't their endless string of hits but how great their first few albums were. This was rock music that was completely experimental and original. Sgt Pepper? Brian Wilson? Chicago deserves a seat at that table as well.

One of the worst music documentaries I've seen, of one of the most ungrateful and greedy bands I've listened to. It's so sad to watch an hour of pure dissing of the former members, except the late Kath. I'm sure that if he had left the band at some point he would have been treated as garbage too.
That's why you took the time to specifically come here and comment on the clip.. It's a true testament to your hatred of the group that you took the time to seek out this particular clip, even though it doesn't have the name of the documentary, listen to it, and then comment. Kudos to you. I wouldn't do all that work for a group I couldn't stand.

You were going to go to the page of a totally different band and comment how you watched the entire documentary from beginning to end of a different band and comment on how much you hated it, taking time out of your day to obsess over the documentary of a group you claim to despise. Yet, I'm confident that you're not only in everything Chicago-related waxing on about how you hate them so much, making sure everyone knows how you took the time to watch the video and comment, but I'm also confident you probably have tickets to every event of theirs within a 1,000 miles radius and own all their albums.

The band, of wich i indeed own (almost) all their albums and that I have followed for manyh years, is now empirically a sad shadow of what it has been. They keep despising some ex bandmates but on the other hand they keep profitting from the songs they left behind. The used to sound amazingly, now they sound like crap. Chicago was much more than a horn section and a keyboardist with the most awful voice I've heard. The documantary is garbage, deal with it.

You decided to let the world know how much you hate them by watching an hour and a half documentary, and then talk about how they are so greedy and ungrateful, because you are so intimate with the members that you have all the first-hand experience with all of it, but in order to REALLY make the comment stand out, you wanted to post it to a different page! I've always wondered if someone could survive with the birth defect of having no brain, and you have proved to the world that you can indeed live with no brain.
It's been about eight or nine years since I saw Chicago in concert and even though I knew Bill, Jason and Walt had been replaced with newer and younger guys I'd never really seen them before except in grainy and shaky camera phone videos. I think I like Jeff's voice better than Jason's frankly even though Jason is obviously a talented guy. I feel badly... really badly... for Danny. It seemed as though last year he finally got his due and recognition, but this belittles his contribution. I know it's only about seven minutes of a two hour documentary, but I'll take Danny's word because from what I see from this they're really leaning toward the guys who have been there all along and not the important people who have passed through the ranks. I didn't know this was on and I'm kind of sad that I missed it, but frankly with respect to Danny I think it's just as well I did. Oh, yes, and Poppy Harlow is really pretty. Sorry. Sorry. I couldn't just ignore that fact.
he's the one they hate to this day and talk down every time a recorder is in front of them and unfortunately that hate had transferred to Chicago fans who take side and refuse to give any credit to Peter for saving them when they were at rock bottom, unable to create. Peter had a talent for a type of song the world wanted to hear after the stress and chaos of Vietnam years. He gave record producers and label what they demanded. Peter was hurt badly by the band. He has more self control and class than Lamm and Pankow.
In the late 60s , many of my psychedelic voyages would have plunged into a psychotic abyss, but Chicago DELIVERS‼️ Students in music schools a hundred years from now will listen and SMILE.⛔
LOL, Philosophical differences... These guys from the start were a bunch of buddies that just wanted to rock with horns. Peter came on after they were already together, but still before CTA. I don't think he ever fit in the "brotherhood". He wanted to do solos and stay in the band. They didn't want someone that was not solely dedicated to "the brotherhood". I think there was tension (jealousy of Peter) while he was there even though he made them better. Peter left because they wouldn't give him what he wanted. I don't blame anyone, but it was a shame.
Walter has a heart condition that demands a low stress life and touring every year for over 6 months is something his doctor advised against it. Walter Parazaider is the founder, frontman and a saxophone player extraordinaire!
