As a black Californian i miss this era of chicanos. All my friends in middle school with the ben Davis and pomps looking like tiny mechanics. Good times man, good times.
Kids were shooting and killing like they are now. It appeared we in the 1990’s were copying (and we were ) previous generations from the 80’s, 70’s, 60’ , 50’ and so on. The only difference now is we didn’t wear skinny jeans , Hispanics weren’t using the “N” word and social media wasn’t around to promote ridiculousness.

I’m from the 90s and grew up on Dickinson shorts and black chucks and long socks I still rock that outfit here once in a while. No gang banging just like the style and one of the most comfortable outfits out there haha

Grew up in a Cali barrio full of cholos, 70s, 80's. As a Mex-Amer, I couldn't wait to grow up and leave. Too many dressed like this, and the crime was non-stop, helicopters all the time. Most were acquaintances of mine and used to tell them to dress better and do better. Too many passed for the stupidest things. I left on my own at 15 yrs old and never looked back. Best decision I ever made. This saddens me.

Yup. Hanging on to nostalgia that isn’t theirs, they are too young. All from stories and memories of the Pachucos that dressed “smooth as silk” in fine threads, calcos, and expensive brims from El Segundo Barrio, El Paso, Texas. Cholos? Young folks’ twist on the ordinals. Nothing to do with the originals. As far as the hanging on to Mexico more than Mexicans from Mexico that goes for ALL folks away from their or their family’s country of origin. Something to identify with, something to belong to. Question. Why don’t we ever post pictures of La Raza graduating from top universities in the States and around the world. There are Chicanos and Mexicans out there too doing great things to really make our Raza proud, stand up and stand out. A personal observation, we seem to be the people that celebrate education, specifically higher education, the least. For our majority it doesn’t seem to be our priority in life. 🤷🏻♀️ I don’t understand why because La Raza is hella a smart. It’s like we are embarrassed to show how smart we are. I guess it isn’t “the-in-thing for us”. Now. That is a shame.

My grandchildren are half white. They love Mexico and they are learning Spanish . I teach them where their great grandparents come from and are learning the traditions. Que vida tan rica.🎉❤😊
@@m.lucero yup, because back in the day our people had to protect themselves, the neighborhood, and our culture. That’s what a Chicano was and we became cholos, to protect. Late 80s early 90s it all changed drastically when drugs were in full swing that changed the game. And now we are against each other. 😢 that’s how car clubs came to be, it was a Chicano pride thing. I miss the good old days 🥺
I grew up in Simi during the early seventies. I remember seeing the first cholos when I was in jr. high. They were a rare breed at the time. They carried themselves in a way that earned them a lot of respect. They respected us first, and we let each other coexist without any bs. I became close friends with one when we were In our twenties, he’s still like a brother.

My cousins from Florida started posting these Cali songs in there ig post it gets me mad yet apperception when they use this type of music I shared with them thinking they from Cali and down ass foos it makes me cringe but playing this type of music at the beach after a storm passed hits different hardly see Chicanos now think it’s mostly in Asian countries now where it still thrives maybe someday I’ll visit just to see how it must have been to live in the 90s

We have a community of El Jimador restaurants and it’s like a carnival when they play their music in their big Chevy suburbans .. that culture is still thriving in Middle America 💯❤️ .. very proud and beautiful people involved..
