Amazing... His “warm up” is what most people would aspire to and then once through the song and he really takes off. All the different times and syncopation and block chords and diminished chords. Love the short glissando down the keyboard like waterfalls making their way downstream.. So very lovely and he was such a genius. Thank you for posting these gems. I just cannot seem to get over him not being here.

Greetings from Japan! While wandering around RU-vid, I came across this video. This piece holds many fond memories for Japanese people. There used to be a time slot from 9 to 11 PM on Sundays dedicated to foreign films (usually Hollywood movies) dubbed in Japanese, and the orchestral version of "So in Love" was used as the ending theme for this program. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Mo9aiRxId4k.html Because the orchestration was very similar to Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2, a famous Japanese pianist revealed that she used to believe for a long time that it was actually a piece by Rachmaninoff. Even today, I doubt many people in Japan know that this tune originates from a musical. Chick Corea's performance of this piece is also wonderful. Listening to "So in Love" always made me feel melancholic, as it reminded me that after watching the Hollywood movie, waking up the next day meant the start of yet another dull weekday. Even now, it still feels that way.
Thank you for sharing your story 🙂 That is certainly an interesting orchestral arrangement of the piece, and I can definitely hear the Rachmaninoff-esque approach.
Why?? Why destroy a lovely and profound melody with all these unnecessary chords and arpeggios that only ruin the pleasure of listening to it. Cole Porter would turn in his grave if he were to listen to this monstrosity. You can be "modern:" without being "over complicated" like this man who, could be a very proficient and accomplished pianist but who, in this case at least, only shows that he is not a very good musician.
