Chinese love them, so do expensive restaurants, their meat, skin and even blood are black. There bones are used for traditional Chinese medicine as a potency cure and replacement for black rhino horn (as they became extinct for the same reason). I personally disagree with all these praktises
Tbh people don't really breed them for eggs either cause they don't produce a lot of eggs and their eggs are medium/small. Most people own these chickens because of their looks, their friendliness towards humans, and their broodiness. It you ever want a free incubator the silkys are awesome.
They dont lay eggs just like larger chickens. They lay far les eggs and much smaller. They are not good egg layers. But what they lack in egg laying they make up for in friendliness and egg care. They are great mothers and will sit on an egg and not move even at Great risk to their own health. Silkies have been known to sit on eggs without moving to eat or or lived their life their only concern is the egg. Mini silkies have died because they refused to get off an egg. So if you are a chicken breeder silkies are great chicken to have just make sure that you take care of them and make sure that they are healthy and eating properly you will have to force them to do so.
I have a few silkies and they are the sweetest. My silkie Cochin, Phoebe, and silkies Olive and Sarah are so sweet and friendly. They run to jump on my lap every time I walk into the coop
I recommend chicken lovers to get a silky. If you love fluffy things, you can also get them because you will be in love with the fluffiness! They are extremely friendly and can also put like a cat and the clothes of a rooster silkie are safe, unlike other chicken breeds which can destroy your eardrums.
Oh man wish me luck, I fell in love, no pets allowed in my building 😞 I bought sound proof blankets, I'll move if anything 💕 love makes you do crazy things ☺️ I'm in NYC and bought them a playpen and leash too so we can go to the park. I have everything but the chicks, I'm waiting with this coronavirus of course I was able to avoid all pets and I would fall in love with super noisy ones, my building doesn't even allow fish lol they're going to be like so she buys a rooster 🤦♀️
@@lucylovesdogs6954 wow u responded one year later im thinking bout getting one does it poop a lot or do u use diapers also how much does it cost to feed them
They are fairly quiet actually, they tend to be really calm and friendly highly unlikely to bite/peck (although if you already have chickens the other chickens might bully the silkies), they don’t lay eggs everyday about 3-4 a week and the eggs are small and I actually don’t know what lowed means 😂
If you’re a preppy Pinterest mom, don’t buy a silkie, they are the stupidest chickens I have ever taken care of. If you don’t put their food in the exact same spot every time they assume they can’t eat it, they will dunk their heads in their water and accidentally drown themselves, they can’t look up so they won’t run away if there is a hawk, etc. they are the dumbest breed of chickens on the planet and require much more work than Pinterest mom are willing to put in.
