Chickens have a great ability to keep their heads stable. Our bodies use a gyro-like mechanism in our ears which has 3 mutually orthogonal inertial measurement devices. Modern motion processors use something called an Inertial Measurment Unit (IMU). These devices provide movement data which can be used to compensate for the movement. Chickens apparently have the same type mechanism only with a higher update rate.
Update The chickens were eaten by the family dog. WHOOPS! :(
Update #2 Sis and I are shot a music video. If you're interested search for "Briley brand new key"
Update #3
Currently under non-exclusive license to be played on Fuji-TV in Japan. Ha Ha. Who would have thought?
Update #4 July 10th, 2009 1 MILLION HITS Woo Hoo!
* Update #5 Sep 25th 2013 This idea was used in a commercial by Mercedes: "Mercedes-Benz TV: MAGIC BODY CONTROL TV commercial "
~~~~~~~~ German / Deutsch courtesy of Bursaap ~~~~~
Hühner haben eine bermerkenswertige Fähigkeit ihre Köpfe stabil zu halten. Unsere Körper benutzen ein gyroskopisches Mechanismus das drei gegenseitige senkrechte biomechanische Inertialsensore. Moderne bewegungs Prozessoren benutzen einen sogennanten Inertial Measurement Unit, eine art Inertialsensor. Diese Geräte geben Daten an so dass es möglich ist die Bewegnung auszugleichen. Hühner haben anscheinend das selbe Biomechanismus aber mit höhreren aktualisierungs Häufigkeit.
Update Die Hühner wurden bei dem Familienhund gefressen! OOOPS 
Update #2 Meine Schwester und Ich haben ein Musikvideo aufgenommen. Wenn es Sie interresiert suchen Sie "Briley brand new key"
Update #3
Dieses Video wird in Japan auf Fuji-TV Spielen. Ha Ha. Wer hätte es gedacht?
Update #4 July 10th, 2009 Eine Million hits! Geil!
Instead of saving for my kids' college, I make videos using the money I would have saved.
The thought is it will help educate the world as a whole, and one day generate enough revenue to pay for their education. Until then if you appreciate what you've learned in this video and the effort that went in to it, please share the video. If you REALLY liked it, feel free to pitch a few dollars towards their college fund by clicking here:
Fantastic video. This is a demonstration of something similar to saccades. Saccades are the fast movements that our eyes make to shift attention. We do the same thing as chickens but we do it with out eyes. If we move our heads, our eyes remain stable. Chickens (and pigeons) saccade with their neck and stabilise their heads (rather than their eyes!). Really neat demo!
For shooting videos when walking, mount the camera ON YOUR HEAD! Why? Same thing as the chicken. Your head does not joggle or bounce like the rest of your body? Why? It has evolved this way so that you can see better without it shaking! Chicken's bodies have also evolved over thousands of years. They have to be able to see bugs when they're walking. Chicken's eyesight is freaking amazing too. They scatter in a second when hawks come or any predator is detected. I love chickens! I named one of my favorites "Corona".
Since the only mention of gods appearance is written in the bible or any other religious text, which were written by humans for humans itd be a lot more likely that we made god in our image rather than the contrary. Not to mention god doesnt look the same in all religious texts and only look like us in a few of them. If god really exists itd be a lot more likely that we look nothing alike
@@marflemcfarble9158 god is an immaterial being so he has no looks when the bible says we are "made in the image of god" it means he made us moral, intelligent,and free (although I've met people who aren't very intelligent) My challenge or question to you is : how do you derive morality from an evolutionary materialistic worldview?
@marflemcfarble9158
@marflemcfarble9158 3 года назад
@@bobbybower9405 You derive morality from an evolutionary standpoint because being moral was helpful to our survival. Before we got to a stage of civilization, agriculture and morality we roamed the earth as hunter gatherers. Our strategy for survival was cooperation which is rather common amongst the animal kingdom especially in mammals (wolves, monkeys, etc) if you didnt play fair or if you didnt cooperate people didnt want to help you so you ended up alone and died before having a chance to reproduce. So in the end your genes didnt pass on to the next generation and the generations that survived kept passing on the importance of sticking to the group. Now this is still far from "morality" but its a start since already you cant go killing everyone in your tribe/group without being banished. As we continued to progress the more you got along well with your tribe the better your chances of reproducing were so the cooperation level increased as time went on. It's probably in this manner that we developed things like empathy for each other. As for morality it pretty much flows from the evolution of empathy, you shouldnt want to steal from your neighbour because its not something you would like someone else to do to you. Besides if you did steal people would shun you for it and youd be an outcast, which in the past meant death. Thats how I derive morality from an evolutionary materialistic worldview.
This is really impressive, since it's an external, uncontrolled agent the one moving the chicken and still it managed to keep the head stationary. And it's quite impressive that it works, since in a normal scenario the chicken is the one moving, so it's way easier to control the head if the movement of the body comes from your own brain.
I think it's because they can't move around their eyeballs, they need to do that when walking to adjust the resolution of their eyes when walking closer or farther away from something, resolution may not be the right word for what I'm trying to say but I can't be bothered to go check, I'm swedish
The chicken knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation.
It's probably similar to us humans when we're looking / focusing to a specific object while moving our heads. Our eyes are completely stationary while our heads are moving.
@Babylauncher3000
@Babylauncher3000 6 лет назад
raykrislianggi - AniMusic Humans do the opposite. We can move our heads while our eyes stay stationary. Birds like chickens cannot track things when their head is moving thus they evolved to keep head stationary.
@zeyy84
Babylauncher3000 yep, their eyes can't move, so they had to find a way to look at things for a longer period of time
what is even funnier, even though it is like 12 years later, is that chickens were tested as a missile / bomb guidance system, if I recall it was in an anti ship missile. I don't think they were actually used in combat, or used in an actual explosion, but it was tested.
