This looks SUPER! I've got to get myself one of those pots! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks very much. I'd highly recommend one of these pots. Food tastes great and really easy to do. You can use it with any kind of charcoal grill or just plain charcoal on the ground somewhere. Regards, Gary

An American(?) doing a pottjie, who woulda thunk it hey?? You put me to shame, I am South African, never made one nor eaten one. However, just got a Cobb last week and still experimenting. Must say, first time in my life I have not been intimidated by a braai (BBQ) Damn good video sir. Regards from South Africa.

Well, thank you and I hope you try a potjie. They're really tasty, great flavor and tender meat, or whatever you put in there. Have fun with your new Cobb (another South African gem).

Very nice. We used to have an iron pot that we got from my mom. The first thing we cooked in it tasted like a rusty nail so we've never used it again. We also had an iron skillet but everything fused to it during cooking and the clean up was very, very, very hard scouring, so we don't use iron skillets now. Yes, I know folks cook with them and have no problem. But we do. Ceramics, non-stick, and stainless steel seem to work OK for us. I really like that little grill of yours.

These pots or any other cast iron cookware need to be be cured beforehand to seal the steel and prevent that iron taste. It involves a simple process by cooking the pot over an hot fire while you add several edible food ingredients into the pot and place the lid on and broil the contents for two hours. Ever use a wire scour or abrasive steel pad in your pot to clean it, always use warm soapy water and a soft synthetic pot scouring pad. After every use of your pot clean thoroughly as described above and then oil the inside with a paper towel dipped into olive oil. To store your pot always place some balls crumpled newspaper inside the pot and add a cub of uncooked brown rice . Botha these items will absorb any moisture from the steel and prevent any fine rust oxo while the pot is being stored with its lid firmly on.

The pot he used here is a pot that has a protective layer and it needs to be cared for like any other 'coated' pot. So no iron taste at all. Looks like a Bestduty - very good quality. I have a few that are now close on 30 years old with no rust.

11.35pm and I want a meal just like that and I'm not even hungry. I also want a pot like that...and a Cobb...and...I'm going to bed before I hit Ebay and Amazon. Best Wishes, Brendan.

Hard to be sure but that looks the same size as mine. It is out in the cabin I will check to see if it has a #1 on it. OMG that looked so good.

I was surprised at all the liquid that was going in but it seemed to come out perfect. By liquid I mean what you added plus what would have come from the vegies but they didn't cook down that much. I can smell it, well done Gary!

Interesting idea. I am a new owner of the Cobb Supreme model and my grill plate is on its way, as the default plate is not flat and so can't hold a pan (wok) for more wider cooking experience. But the question here - couldn't you do just the same using the griddle itself, without the pot? Sorry if my question is plain stupid, I am just learning to cook :-)
@PetrKrenzelok
@PetrKrenzelok 9 лет назад
Ah, should just see the whole video, I thought you are using it just for meat, but adding another layers of food make it more obvious now :-)

***** You have the idea now. It's a one-pot meal. Since I made that video, I just put the pot right down on the burning charcoal and don't use the grill plate at all. Much easier and I get better heat transfer. Enjoy your new Cobb... It's a great, little grill. Regards, Gary

Hi Gary, great video. I'm impressed that you got the potjie pot. Thanks for the mention. I don't know if you like curry but please try a hot beef and banana curry. It's amazing. I looked to use oxtail. Generally oxtail in the pot is stunning but u need 3-4 hours cook. Keep on you tubing. I'll make a video soon. Cheers Adrian.

I'm sorry, I don't recall where I got it but they are readily available online. Even Amazon has them. Just do a search for Potjie Pot. Hope you find one, they are great.

Hello Gary. Do you know where I might purchase the Cobb Grill dome extender? Thx
@garygardens
@garygardens 11 лет назад
I got mine from Cobb America who has recently gone out of business so I don't have a good source to recommend. Other places sell the grills but you may have to search around for the accessories. If I locate a supplier, I'll let you know. Regards, Gary

***** I will also look around and if I find a contact post it so others may find extra bits. By the way, noticed your interest in sailing, I circumnavigated in 97 - 2000 and again recently went from Ft Lauderdale to Alaska via Cape Horn

Heavens no, ha ha. Potjie pots are available both with and without legs. I wanted the legless to fit better in my Cobb grill. Good eye though, thanks.

It is not a traditional chicken poitjie. It is not creamy, and it is missing sauce... when will u upload again?
