ANNISTON, Ala. (WBRC) - The City of Anniston broke ground to extend the Chief Ladiga Trail close to seven miles.
This new extension will connect Anniston’s Amtrak Station to Georgia’s Silver Comet Trail, forming the longest paved pedestrian pathway that will cover over 105 miles of paved trail.
City leaders say once this trail is completed in 2025, it will have a huge economic impact on the city and bring much needed tourism to the area.
“Since our groundbreaking on April 12, B&B developers have been hard at it on the Ladiga Trail here behind me. As you can see, they have cleared out almost all of the brush and debris from the trail already, they’re making great progress,” said Public Relations Director Jackson Hodges. “We are connected to Atlanta and Birmingham in many different ways, but this trail is going to create an even more intimate connection with Atlanta. To be able to ride your bike for a day, stop and get you some food at a mom and pop shop and either head to the train station and go back to Atlanta or ride from Anniston to Atlanta for a nice get away.”
