First Listen to Child's Play "Good' Ol Rock and Roll" from the self titled album Child's Play, old school 80's hair metal and long forgotten, brought to me and us by Miss Althea, I have never heard Child's Play but hot dammit I am gonna hear them now!
Child's Play is a rock band from East Baltimore, Maryland. The group was formed in 1983 with Larry Hinshaw on vocals, Brian Jack on guitar, Phil Wiser on bass, Jimmy Shafer on guitar, and Steve Albinak on drums.

They have an album Ruff House released in 1986, and Long Way in 1993. And the intro to this song 1,2,3,4, is the drummer John Allen who now fronts the band. John also sings for Charm City Devils and Stone Horses.

Unfortunately these guys didn't get the coverage from their record company, so they only made it big on the east coast. seen them in Va. Beach in 1990 and got to hang with the band buying them rounds of beer. Brian Jack (RIP) and the rest of the band were down to earth and very approachable, wish more bands were like that.

I bought this on cassette when it was released in 90' and it's still one of my all time favorite bands. It's the only album they released and the lead singer sadly died about 10 years ago. It's funny that I also have every other related artists albums when they were first released. Those lesser known bands were better than a lot of big named bands.

These guys grew up in my neighborhood in Baltimore. Some of my friends were friends with them. I saw them many times. When I think of the Rat Race album, I am reminded of Warrant. The Child's Play LIVE shows were heavier than the album and these guys were tight musicians. A Kix Live show (sound wise) is similar to how they sounded. They had a huge AC/DC influence but it's hard to hear on the album. They often played 'Down Payment Blues' and 'Livewire'. The lead singer was very charismatic and had a great sense of humor. In my opinion, their album came out a bit too late for the glam metal movement. They made one MTV video for the song 'Rat Race' which wasn't their best song (imo). But such a great LIVE band. So much fun to watch because they were really flashy with a lot of energy.

Remember seeing these guys 3-4 times a week....always one of my favorites in the local scene. They released an EP Called "Ruff House" with their original lead singer. Then came Rat Race with Brian Jack taking over lead vocals. There was a third album released by them with a 3rd singer after Brian Jack left the band to pursue his solo career...but as I said, one of my favorites

Excellent Miss Althea!! Loved it! These guys are right up my alley! Not one bad thing in this song. They had the looks, the energy, the conviction, and the music. I wish I remembered them, but I don’t. I could see this band being huge back in the day. Perhaps they came along right as things were (sadly) coming to an end with the glam metal. That’s the only thing I can think of. Five years earlier and they would have played arenas. Nicely done, and thank you Miss Althea!!!

If you loved this, you will definitely be into the whole Rat Race album! My fave jams from it are this track and Knock Me Out, but you can't really can't go wrong with any of it in my opinion....

Was born in 76. When I was growing up 80s rock was huge. Plenty of bands to choose from. Sure there were your obvious bands like Motley Cure that was already big and had record deals on major labels ,but there were plenty that were on indie labels or got signed and didn't last past one album. I remember spending weekends at the mall looking through CD or cassette bins for bands I had heard about but had not listened to before. Too many great bands to name only one was discovered this way. I remember reading about Child Play in Metal Edge magazine then finding their album at the music store. Played this album over and over.

I went to school with these guys and played guitar at bonfires lol but what happened was nirvana and grunge happened, they put their material on the shelf at the record company and grunge TOOK OFF , Brian. Was really talented, John Allen fronts a well known band now and the roadie Mitch Allen was front man of sr71 and is a huge writer and producer now

Thank goodness this was not deemed a clunker (I will never live down D'Molls 7-7-7....)! Lest you forget, darling, that Roxx Gang is on your channel because of ME! 😹 I am actually agape that Kix was not listed among the related artists...they were Maryland brothers and ruled the rock club scene here! The whole Rat Race album ROCKS and there is an official video for the title track if any newbies out there care to check it out. They did acquire some marginal national success when the quasi-ballad, Wind, was released as a single. Otherwise, I think it was another unfortunate case of bad timing for these guys. Front man Brian Jack was an AMAZING performer and continued to play solo in this area (Baltimore/DC) for a long time after the band busted...unfortunately he passed away a few years ago - to this day the cause has not been made public. And as a personal fun nugget, drummer John Allen was a high school classmate of one of Den's very best friends. Thank you, Shane, for bringing this to the masses and breathing some new life into this hidden gem!! 🤘

Yes - Brian Jack passed in 2012, but as I stated in my comment, the official cause of death was never released to the public....at least not as far as I know (or remember) anyway.....

i am not gonna lie to ya .... Australian rock bands are the BEST on the planet ,,,and lots of us here don't even think AC DC are the best ever ....Rose Tattoo, The Angels , Choirboys , Living End , Screaming Jets , Dallas Crane , Cold Chisel ....oh brother...the list is endless ....i would like to see you explore oz rock more ...we sat down here for decades and wondered "why does everyone only know acdc ? " .....its criminally ignored ,.. as good as this is .....well....hmmm

Hoodoo Gurus, Australian Crawl.....Yep the list goes on. I agree best bands on the planet. Other bands seemed to think our bands were good 2......Guns n Roses covered Rose Tattoo's Nice Boys and have you ever had a listen to Unpublished Critics by Australian Crawl? If you havent have a listen and you will hear the similarities between that song and GnR's Sweet Child O Mine. Also listen to the start of Aussie Crawls Daughters Of The Northern Coast and you will hear Nirvanas Smells Like Teen Spirit.....Rose Tattoo are my fav Aussie band. seen them about 10yrs ago at Corowa RSL club. Angry is 1 heck of a front man. Had his bottle of Stones Green Ginger Wine by the drum kit, the whole band was awesome.
