Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino kicks a mean freestyle. CLICK HERE TO SUBSCRIBE: bit.ly/12lN6vb HOT97: www.hot97.com TWITTER: / hot97 FACEBOOK: / hot97official
It’s even more fire when you realize that there’s a secret track on the album because of the internet and it took computer code, a screen play, and a secret password to unlock
Facts. And there’s so much of this in his raps… his references are off the charts. The best rappers are overlooked sometimes because the bars go over peoples heads.
@@rosiewright5684 The 3005 picnic version came out in the Kauai mixtape as an instrumental only. It took the coding, screen play, and password to get the lyrics that go with the instrumental.
Logic and Gambino the two most underrated rappers in the game. Edit: 1 year later... add Chance the Rapper to that...and does J. Cole count as underrated still? idk.
simonlynchsae So good! I keep coming back to this. So happy people are finally starting to take him seriously as a musical artist, not just a comedian or writer. Boy has all the skills!
You know what's funny, this guy looks like the same person from the new series Atlanta. And both of them look like Donald Glover, this Childish Gambino guy sure could blow up
Nat Geo once cited a study on rappers and that actually found out that once rappers get going and getting into a freestyle flow, the part of the brain that suppresses and controls oneself is inhibited while the prefrontal cortex (the part of the brain associated with language and decision making) is extremely active. Dont know why I felt like sharing but here's a link to anyone whose curious ( blog.nationalgeographic.org/2012/11/16/brains-got-game-the-amazing-minds-of-freestyle-rappers/ ). Rappers who can freestyle can call themselves 'genius'. Bino is a real one... don't yall forget it.
@@Arratick I'm glad you pointed out that out honestly. Explains a lot. It's like consciously summoning the subconscious based on a mathematical frequency. My thesis topic. 😜
Monty OumExpirence not all all. I literally can’t believe u said that. And that logic is why hip hop is trash now, cuz no real talent. Ppl say they freestyle (literally rapping off the top of your head, NOT FUCKIN PRE WRITTEN) but then give us a fuckin SONG....u know, with bars they had to think about then other bars to rhyme wit the last one..........NOT A FUCKIN FREESTYLE, THATS CALLED A FUCKIN SONG OR SIMPLY A VERSE/VERSES.........mind u I will never say childish is not great, I think he’s definitely an actual genius unlike Kanye’s clown ass
starting at 1:50 you can see the actual freestyling in his eyes. (Yes, he may be scanning his brain through lyrics he thought of in the past, but it's very, very hard to keep pace while freestyling without having a database of rhymes to base bars off of. Also he's freestyling at a very fast pace. A "true" off the dome freestyle can't be done at this tempo without some major slip ups. You'd need to be rapping fairly slow and also have an insanely creative mind, which Gambino definitely does. This is a freestyle that mixes both his creativity and ability to think of lyrics to create something on spot with his memory of things he thought of but hadn't used yet. Also the pause during a freestyle is showing you he's not using a memorized verse. It's a technique used to rest for a couple seconds while putting your next part together in your head.
@@k.santana did you even read what he said? also if youve never freestyled with a group of people who know what theyre doing i could understand not believing its possible
This is hands down the most subtly brilliant freestyle ever delivered. Listen to how rapidly the lyrics arrive in his head... Listen to how the measures are just slightly off rhythm, one rhyme on 4 beats, one on 5, one on 7, and then one on, like, 15... Listen to the meaning of some of the lyrics... I mean, written over several months this is amazing, but from the dome?
Still One of my favorites of all time. I still know all of the words to this since it came out. I have been a mega fan of this man for so long. even seeing him live at Coachella was so magical, I can’t wait to meet him in real life one day.
The first verse, he wasn't quite in it. He was still spitting fire, but there were a few moments where you could sense a bit of hesitation with his lyrics. The fact that he could just freestyle those lines with no prep is impressive in it's own right, however. What's even more impressive is after he got a minute or two to warm up, he focuses up and drops the heaviest freestyle lines to ever grace this earth with not a single moment of pause or thinking, all while adding dramatic pause and conversational cadence. Absolute masterclass in freestyle rap.
It really is pretty fucked up how it is; Bino doesn't get validation as an artist because his style is different. I've had friends and other people tell me that he's "soft and his bars suck." He says a lot about it on this freestyle, though. I'm finished ranting hahaha.
Anton Larsson I first saw him on Community as Troy, my favorite character. and then he dropped his first album and I was in love. I recently watched Atlanta and it was pretty good. Glover is a great actor. He can do really convincing roles
What I respect the most is REAL FREESTYLE! He went IN and fell off for a split second and came back even harder with words off the dome!! Just wow I’m a fan of everything he touches! He’s so gifted and so animated! It’s hard to imagine that he started off as an actor and found his voice in the process!
This dude brings people together. I don't understand how someone could hate on this. If someone tells me that rap isn't music/art, Gambino would the first person I would use to try to convince them otherwise because this dude is like the epitome of art. And he does a lot more than rapping.
I wasn't impressed by this at all... I think listeners are just getting dumber... People are breaking down, I'm so fly like xyz... I personally thought that was weak and so obvious, yet these new kids think it's genius...
Anyone who listens to this kid understands that HE DOES NOT WRITE LIKE THIS! He would have to purposefully write unorthodoxed bars just to APPEAR to be freestyling??? Dudes a very intelligent professional writer and actor. He also doesn't give a fuck. This Not being off the dome would be completely incongruent to everything about him. Show some respect for an emerging star.
He's bigger than he was 5 years ago, but I'd say he's still emerging, too. There are still a lot of people sleeping on him, not recognizing that this dude is an absolute genius.
Trisha Cates I would agree. Believe he is at least Mensa if not an actual genius. I have a genius IQ but that isn't really important. Sure it's a little special but I haven't done much with mine except for the ability of having a good conversation with literally anyone that wants to. Aside from that, I ain't done much with it... Take two people fogger instance: 1.Albert Einstein 2.Madonna Pretty equal IQs actually Einstein loved mathematics and solving problems. He loved it, we all benefited from his love. Madonna loves dance and music. So we benefit from her immense success doing what she's loves. Unless you apply your IQ in a way that benefits YOU then it will be of benefit to others. Gambino is interested in conglomeration, the big picture if you will. But what's cool about it is he hasn't yet found what he LOVES. AND he is totally down to earth and humble. Once he finds his "love" I believe we're going to benefit from something amazing!
Gambino wants everyone to learn code, he encourages people to learn it by hiding secret tracks in the coding of his website. This is another subtle hint of Bino's that makes him one of my favorite rappers
Aren't programs coded aswell? How do you code a program that is used to code programs? How did you code the program that coded that program? Chicken or egg?
yeah that proves to me this wasn't a freestyle.. no way in hell anybody can freestyle that off the top of the head.. regardless this "freeverse" was dope
Considering that Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) is a talented actor and has learned the art of improv, I can definitely believe that this is off the top.
This is definitely off the top of his head. I know people who can freestyle almost as good as this, and they are just people who I know, not famous rappers at all. The thing a lot of people forget is that big rappers are often made big by more than skill alone, so their skills are not indicative of the whole genre's freestyle ability.
u2good2b4gotn lol. This freestyle is pretty damn good, but it's not the best freestyle ever. I've heard live freestyles which have been as clever as this, I know people who can freestyle this good who're just normal people who like to muck around making beats and freestyling over them. This isn't that great. I mean, yeah, it's fucking awesome - I like it a lot. But people like you are attributing a level of skill that's just not warranted. Like there's no way he could freestyle this, it must be rehearsed. It's not that amazing. It's legit. Stop basing freestyle skills off rappers who aren't known as freestylers, and start doing some research on real freestylers. You'll see how awesome they are. (Fuck, Tom Green is a dope freestyler and he's some stupid white dude who does retarded shit all the time.)
Been listening to Gambino for years and haven't in a while but I just started binge watching the community and it's so weird seeing Troy like this lmao
"World in my words, spit a universe" "with my hand to God, so my hands on my fuckin chest" Dayuuummm. I love these hidden gems scattered throughout this masterpiece. So quick, you almost miss it, yet so deep and clever.
Rosenberg and Charmalagne play Donald off like he's just an "okay" rapper. BITCH NO! HE IS FUCKING SLICK AND HOLDS MAJOR TALENT. MORE THAN 80% OF THE RAPPERS IN THE MAINSTREAM GAME TODAY!
I bought a business… was leveraged upto the hills… worked 7 days a week… this had just dropped… it really helped me thru the early days… thank god today it does really well… I come back to this every few months… god bless us all 🙏🏼
The Most Underrated Rappers 1.Logic 2.Chance 3. Bino (he is getting bigger but doesnt get enough respect for what he is doing) My opinion so you can hate all want wont change my mind on it, but i would like to hear yours
+Jefts coming from a huge gambino fan, this cannot be off the dome. To be able to come up with metaphores, double entrendes, and deep lyrics like this and still be able to flow with the beat is highly unlikely. Some of it may be off the dome but a vast majority of it had to be written. However this does not deviate from the fact that gambino is extremely lyrical, he prolly had those lines written, but to be able to put them together and grind to the beat still takes a tremendous amount of skill #donaldforspiderman
Literally, this guy looks like he goes to another level when the rap hits him. 2 minutes in he stops like his body can't keep up with what's going on in his head.
whenever i watch this video i will forever wonder how they cut out all the background noise of the people screaming and running for the exits cause his bars definitely burnt that place down. or at least rosenbergs face its why he was so quiet. just admiring art
This freestyle is incredible, but if you think it wasn't 100% pre-written, you're wrong. (I've been a deep fan of freestyle rapping for 20 years). I love this song a lot, though!
@@Murky103 I don't know what freestyle you've seen live but the delivery of the lines and inflections make me think that it is 100% pre-written. That's not bad, but it is really cringy that he's pretending to just jump on it and freestyle.
This is way more impressive than people who come a little more prepared. Can feel a distinct vibe/flow that only comes from pure talent and creativity. uppa Gambino.
this was amazing, and you can tell its a freestyle too because of the way he pauses to think, this isnt written backstage right before he did the interview, its off the dome.
