We recently finished Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky, so it's time to update our review of the Children of Time series! OTHER: Instagram: / bookblather Email: sunlyte1@gmail.com
Children of Time was so good. I should really finish the series. Adding elements of horror, suspense, and heartbreak sound really awesome too. Great review on these 👏 👏 👏 🐶
Good video. Children of Time is yet another book that's been on my TBR forever lol I've come to realize that I'm such a mood reader that there are books on my TBR that I may never get to. Unless I find the secret to immortality! 🤔
Well, the fountain of youth does lie in the mystical island realm of Florida, after all. (No kidding, I've read sixteenth and seventeenth century travelers' accounts referring to Florida as a unicorn-inhabited island. 🤪) Alternatively, the gene jocks might finally work out that telomere extension business that was all the chatter back when I was in school. But the important thing is that you would get to witness the death of the cosmos like a Stephen Baxter protagonist! And read ALL the books, of course. But then again, that might get tricky without sufficient EM radiation and baryonic matter. 😁
@@BryanM.R.-wt9eb I've been to the Fountain of Youth a few times. The water tastes pretty gross lol It's full of sulfur. It's a tourist trap in St. Augustine. (There's a Ripley's Believe It or Not museum there, too) I would love for them to figure out the telomere thing. People would still die. Just from other stuff, like cancer and getting run over by busses. They just wouldn't get old and die. Which, if you asked me, would be awesome. But, if at all possible, I would love to be there for the death of the universe. 🙂🚀🌌
@@BryanM.R.-wt9eb of course, you could still end up breaking your glasses, like the guy in that twilight zone episode, and still not be able to read them, even though you finally had “all the time in the world” to do so
The beginning of CoT was SO GOOD! Exciting & really grabbed me. 🕷️ By the end I was just happy it was over- so many thousands of years with selfish, conniving people was too much for me.😂
Yeah, I guess those on the ship got a little obnoxious, but hey, these stories wouldn’t be very interesting if everyone was good natured and well behaved, now would they? 😉
@@BookBlather i liked the spiders and their interesting relationship between themselves & the AI of the scientist. 😅 I even liked the human angle, just not how many eons it took to get them together.
I’ve never heard of this series before, but you made it sound really interesting! Good to know that the first one can be read as a standalone so you don’t have to commit to a whole series if you just want to try it out. I think I will give it a try. Great review! 🐶 ✨
I think at various points Olive believed you were going to drop a book. I picked up a short story collection about AI, The Digital Aesthete, which has a Tchaikovsky story. It wasn't a favorite in the collection but it was still good.
She watches me like a hawk! Doesn’t trust me to do anything right. I have a long list of Tchaikovsky to read now, but I’m going to add this to the list…. I could be wrong, but I don’t think he wrote a lot of short stories.
The first book made me like spiders. The 2nd book as to much like the first but it had a horror element to it that was resolved in a heartwarming way that i enjoyed. The last book dragged at times, around the 3rd time of reading the same thing i wanted the story to just make its point already. But following Miranda and it's attempt at human emotions resonated with me. When Miranda met miranda i was bawling my eyes out. And while i also liked it i didn't like how the ending left somethings unknown in a way that it was clearly meant for a sequel. Where the other 2 ended their stories. What ever comes from this series next I'll 100% read it. I hope however it stays on the optimistic side. All 3 books have these dark moments when things are bleak and hopeless but by the end it was worth the struggle or something came of it. It might come off cheesy if the power of love and friendship saves the universe but i also don't want more grimdark sci-fi were it turns out all the pain and struggle was for nothing because nothing matters and you're an idiot for hoping and caring.
Agree with all of it! I’m with you… I will definitely keep reading this series. I’m reading his stand-alone The Doors of Eden at the moment. It’s decent so far, but definitely not the Children of Time series.
This sounds like it should be a blast. I tried starting on the first one, but I'm having a tough time focusing on or enjoying much of anything at the moment. Anhedonia's a helluva drug, I guess -- except I sort of want to move to Australia to open a laundromat, so go figure. 🤪 Oh well, maybe I'll get to the books eventually. Thanks for the video. Hope you and Olive are well. 🐶
