My Luma has grown a crazy amount this year but it never flowered, I guess because I planted it last Autumn and the roots were disturbed. Do you consider the fruits very nice to eat or more like 'bush tucker' suitable as survival food 😉

Hi, I have noticed that liquid fertilizing makes the plant flower like crazy during the spring. I have tried mine fruits last year very early and would be a accurate not comment; (raw taste less pleasent than Chilean guava) . This year I am waiting for them to really turn black and swell up before trying. I guess it will be in 2 weeks and will update you.

@@linkseasonuk772 Probably squirrels? I had 40+ peaches on the tree this year and only managed to harvest 5, and had to do that before they were fully ripe otherwise they would have gone also

Can you comment on how fragrant the Luma blooms are? I'm intrigued after seeing an old youtube vid of a tall bush that was full of blooms and the fragrance was described as enveloping and out of this world.

Hi, there is fragrance but nothing out of this world. Not sure if it's because the plant is still young and small. I am planning to put it in a bigger pot to give it a chance to develop more, because I think the plant has potential.

@@linkseasonuk772 This is the link to the vid I mentioned btw: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KRVKcRt5QU8.html . Its the bush at the beginning he names as "myrtus lechleriana". Burncoose nursery states that's its former name and is now called "AMOMYRTUS luma" though you can never be 100% sure if that's the correct info because of plants being mistaken for others. Anyway, thanks for your reply

@@patina7943 I have seen this video long time ago. Not sure if the Chilean myrtle I have it's the same variety. With this unusual fruits, I will try to buy the plants if they affordable and hardy to UK weather. Not all plants have turned up with the flavour it was claimed; this could be down to the plant variety. For example, I have 3 varieties of autumn olive, one of them is really good, the other one has a interesting flavour, the third has tiny fruits without any flavour. If I had only bought the 3rd one first, I would thought autumn olive are no good as claimed. The fruits of Chilean myrtle has not convinced me as I did not manage to eat a fully developed good size fruit, they do vanish before that (I don't have squirrels in my place...).
