A subsidy-fueled boom helped build China into an electric-car giant.
But do the country's weed-infested auto graveyards brimming with abandoned battery-powered vehicles reveal the dark side of this EV shift? Dan Murtaugh reports.

EVs have green plates since 2016. Why I see blue plates in this video?

These cars are before 2016 and belong to ride sharing companies. Many ride sharing companies went bankrupt a few years ago.

China has massive steel recycling capacity. They'll recycle all those cars and build something else with the materials. It's convenient inventory.

Really What about all the hazardous materials and chemicals in the batteries. No country, government on the planet knows what to do with them so do not comment back to me because I am away and will not look at this for a while but just think, really think about the hazardous materials left.

@@keithkravitz2665those cars probably don't have batteries in them, it's cheaper to recycle minerals in battery than to excavate more, battery materials can be recycled again and again and have higher recycle value than other parts of the car. China is stupid but not that stupid to leave expensive batteries in the rain.

well it was a political scam to let see the world that they are the best selling at EV cars. so these cars are afterwarts dumped.. thats the simple sort truth..

My guess is the companies went bankrupt & simply could not afford the shipping costs to other exterior markets. Hopefully the batteries will or have been recycled!

I wonder who paid for these cars, they don't get produced for free so someone is losing a lot with all these cars rotting away outdoors. It's a firehazzard, once one starts burning the whole field will go up in flames.

Obvious horsepoop. People dig through the trash for Aluminum cans, but you think theyre leaving ALL the Litium in those car batteries in the trash. Lithium goes for $50,000/ton
@pyrobob208
@pyrobob208 Год назад
There is no lithium in the batteries, its lithium hexafluoride which is dangerous. It has to be extracted from the other materials which is expensive.

That’s pretty cool actually. Redwood materials can collect them and recycle the battery material into new vehicles. Very little waste
@900Yugo
@900Yugo 11 месяцев назад
Don't worry Redwood materials can just start a plant in China, so the government can steal their intellectual property,kick them out and once Redwood Material goes bankrupt just buy the company outright. Soon the company becomes a CCP enterprise.

I have to wonder if all those EVs still have their battery packs inside them. From what I have seen, if one starts on fire, all those cars will be engulfed shortly therafter. Probably would be visible from space in the space station at night! New Global Warming issue to contend with.

Electric vehicles are a scam
@BGTech1
@BGTech1 Год назад
They definitely aren’t. I’ve never heard such a stupid claim. Just wait another 15 years and every car will be electric, in fact most car manufacturers are in the process of stopping the designing of gas cars, and moving to electric. These generations of cars will be on the market in 5-8 years

I would like to know what the true ranges are with fully electrical EVs. Compare that to hybrid vehicle ranges. If EVs can compete then let it be.
@djalan2000
@djalan2000 8 месяцев назад
@@sidoliveira3246 Compare WHICH EV to WHICH hybrid? There are so many of both now and they all have different 'ranges' as well. FUNNY though that nobody ever says "Compare a BEV's POWER and ACCELERATION to a Hybrid or Plug In Hybrid"... Why not? Because the hybrid would LOSE every time! The put in cheap electric motors and a cheap battery. Most only have a range of 40-50 miles on battery alone which would be fine for most folks anyway, but they still have that tiny little gas engine too... Basically they are little generators. But RANGE has NOTHING to do with BEVs (Battery only EVs) in reality, at least not MOST BEVs made in the last few years... Why? Because MOST people drive LESS than 50 miles per day!! So, a BEV that has more than, say, 200 miles 'average range' would be fine and MOST of the GOOD BEVs have ranges from 250-350 which is fine for daily use AND for long trips (at least in most countries). WHY would you NEED a vehicle that goes 600 or 800 or even 1000 miles without stopping for 'fuel'? Are you driving that kind of distance all the time? Do you normally drive for 8 hours or more without stopping? (8hrs x 70mph = 560 miles). 1000 miles driven at 70 mph is 14.28 HOURS!! Sorry, but for me that's WAY too long to not have stopped SEVERAL times for bathroom breaks, food breaks and even just to stretch legs so I can walk breaks... JET pilots, who fly around 500mph still take breaks every couple of hours!! Sure, you could have one of those 'truckers friends' (works for men) or maybe you can 'do it' in a bottle while driving, but MOST of us just stop!! So, on a long trip in a BEV (like the ones I do to Vegas every 4-5 months - about 350 miles for me) means that I stop ONCE along the way to 'recharge' both the car AND myself! We stop at about halfway (170 miles) at a SuperCharger that's behind a Chili's restaurant, plug in (takes about 30 seconds), go inside, get a table, order our lunch/dinner, go to the bathroom and then, usually right when the food shows up, I get a message on my phone telling me the car is charged up now and would I please move it so someone else can use the charger!! So, I go out, unplug (another 30 seconds at most), move the car and go inside and eat. Then, we come out, hop in the car and head back out all charged up! REALLY FUNNY THING WE FIGURED OUT THE FIRST TIME: We used to stop for GAS right across the street and THEN went to the SAME Chili's restaurant to eat lunch/dinner and go to the bathroom!! (Hate using the bathrooms at gas stations, they are WAY worse than a decent restaurant). Not only that, but we figured out that it probably takes LONGER to 'gas up' than it does to charge up! Why? How? Because you pull up to the gas pump and spend at least 5 minutes to get gas because you have to stop, get credit card out, put card in machine, punch in numbers, wait for authorization, then grab handle, open gas cap, put nozzle in, choose gas type/price and start pumping. When done, it's put the handle back, put gas cap back on, close the door (oh, BTW, Tesla's charging port closes automatically too), wait for the receipt (wife tracks EVERYTHING!!) and then get back in and drive across the street to Chili's where we get a table, order food, go to the bathroom (IF we can hold it that long - it's harder when you stop driving), come back, eat food and then go on our way again... I figure it actually takes about 10 minutes LONGER in 'total stopped time'... Sure, we could use the bathroom at the gas station and even get 'fast food' there and be on our way in LESS time, but we never DID! We're not in a HURRY when we're on our trips and would rather have a relaxing lunch than eating in the car... But we COULD do that in the Tesla too... IF we wanted to... And then we could play games, watch videos while eating or even do CARaoke (it's a Tesla app), but we usually just go inside and eat and use CLEANer bathrooms... SO, don't sweat it! If your BEV can go more than 200 miles on a charge then who cares!! Can a hybrid with a little gas motor go farther? Sure!! But it won't be any fun and you will STILL have to stop for gas!!
